Fire Shed Rename Keith Duncan Rural Memorial Shed, Sunday 2pm 16 th November 2014 Despite gusty windy weather more than 60 people attended the ceremony to rename the Megalong Valley Fire Shed in honour of the contribution Keith made to the brigade. Guest speakers included Rob Rodgers, Deputy Fire Commissioner, David Jones, District Manager, Blue Mountains, Roza Sage, State Member for Blue Mountains and Councillor, Don McGrergor on behalf of the Mayor of the Blue Mountains. Thanks to all those who helped with setting up and special thanks to Luke for his speech on the Keith Duncan Fire Fighting Years and arranging the plaque. Luke and Alan also thanked Ian for all the work he had done in organising the ceremony. Commemorative plaques have been installed thanks to David and Ian. Captain s report: Oct/ Nov 2014 Cahill's Lookout Fire - 1/11-6/11 The Brigade was called to provide support and observation to the Cahill's lookout fire Katoomba at approximately 12.45am on Saturday 1 November 2014 from the end of Nellies Glen Rd Megalong Valley. Megalong 1, Megalong 7, Megalong 9 and PC were utilized and the following members were in attendance Mark Phillis, David Bosworth, Therese Berriman, Malcolm Scott, Linda Greer, Ian Annetts and Robert Scuff. The brigade was placed on standby at the end of Nellies Glen Rd till the 6th November which included night patrols and the feasibility of establishing firebreaks along the walking tracks in the area. Motor Vehicle Fire - 30/11/14 12.41p Megalong Primary School Brigade members were called out for a car on fire at the Megalong Primary School on Sunday 30/11/14. Brigade members arrived at the scene to find a Rodeo Ute smoldering and the fire extinguished. The owner advised the engine had caught alight but he had managed to extinguish the fire. The following Brigade members attended the scene, Mark Phillis, David Bosworth, Therese Berriman, Malcolm Scott, Ian Annetts, Linda Greer, Alan Hyatt, Stan Stockley and Robert Morse. MVA ACCIDENT -30/11/14 12.45p Peach Tree Rd Whilst proceeding to the pager call out to the motor vehicle fire Mark Phillis, Ian Austin and Alan Hyatt came across a vehicle on Peach Tree Rd that had veered off the road and was caught up in fencing adjacent to Ian Austin residence. No-one was hurt and members provided assistance in towing the car back onto the road. President s report: Nothing to report. 2

General Business Move a motion that the Brigade Executive accept David Sommerville application for Probationary Membership to join the brigade in accordance with 5.3.2 of the Brigades Constitution. All in favour of the motion New combination safe purchased to prevent theft to store vehicle keys, fuel cards and BF3/4 keys which is bolted to the bench. Wire mesh will also be installed over windows by BMCC at a later date. Workcover Checklist Inspection Submitted to District Office and awaiting advice on non-compliant items. Water Heater replaced and power point behind fridge repaired. Safe Camping Posters re-installed at Old Ford Reserve. Removal of Fire Danger Meter on Peach Tree Rd - following the theft of the pointer indicator in early November it was decided to remove the sign. An email survey conducted of some of the residents indicated that the majority of residents were in favour of the FDM but no action was to be taken until after discussion at the next meeting. Survey results attached. It was decided to withdraw the FDM sign as the brigade could see no point if it was continually going to be vandalised. Therese purchased the additional Spot Headlamps which have been placed in the vehicles. Fire Trail Maintenance - Due to inclement weather the exercise was cancelled. Website Update Brigade Website have undergone major revision following suggestions from resident and brigade member to make the site more relevant and easier to read. Fire Shed Garage Sale Ian suggested that following the Keith Duncan Ceremony that we should consider some fund raising activites for the Social Account, by having a Garage Sale where members and residents donate goods to the fire shed with all money donated to the brigades social account. Secretary to put proposed dates and form letter to residents to be discussed at the next meeting. Honour Role - Captain, President and Secretary Luke suggested that we have an honour role board erected for the above office bearers to be displayed in the shed. On the 10 th & 24 th November practical and theory training was held for Jacob and John in preparation for their BF Assessment. My thanks to Therese, Ian and Alan for their assistance. John Boyd and Jacob Aitkin have passed their BF assessment which was held at Medlow Bath on the 29 th of November 2014. This is the last training event for this year, with training due to commence again in March 2015. There will be a planning meeting for the members as son as the 2015 training calendar is released.
