ALPINE CLUB OF CANADA - ROCKY MOUNTAIN SECTION EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING MINUTES MARCH 14, 2011 The meeting was called to order at 7:26pm at the Marg & Dave's House in Canmore Attendance: Marg Rees (Chair) Clifton Potter (Vice-Chair) David Moe (Treasurer) Patrick Sorfleet (Secretary) Doug Sims (VIP Grants) Felix Camire (Training and Leadership) Jackie Clark (Camps) Lara Seward-Guenette (Member at Large) Sachi Aido (Blizzard) Bob Olinger (Social) 1) Approval of agenda approved 2) Approval of minutes from last meeting - approved 3) Ray Norman Memorial This Saturday is the memorial for Ray. Marg offered assistance from the section however the organization etc. has already been taken care of. 4) Donations Overrun (TABVAR/CAJ/RN) We have spent all of the $2000 donation line item. The two donations that were approved were the CAA and the world bouldering championship for $1000 each. Others have come up: TABVAR and the CAJ as well as a scholarship that is being set up in Ray Norman's name. It is possible that the social committee budget can cover the TABVAR donation. Motion: Dave - the social committee commit $250 to $500 from social committee budget to donate to TABVAR at the social committee's discretion. Seconded by Jackie. Approved Marg suggested that for the Ray Norman memorial fund, we budget for this in next year's budget. Action Item: David and Marg to get more information regarding the fund and bring this back to a future meeting. Marg suggested that the donation of $250 come from the Blizzard budget

Motion: Felix moved that the section donate $250 to the CAJ and that the donation come from the Blizzard budget. Seconded by Patrick. Approved Action Item: Treasurer to ensure that the CAJ donation appears as a standalone budget item in future budgets. 5) Summer TNF Candidate We have received one applicant for the summer TNF Course. Action: Marg to include information in the news section of the website reminding people of the summer north face course and to advertise the course in the spindrift. 6) TNF Evaluations - Mentorship Marg has received the TNF evaluations. One of the subjects that has been brought up was the development of a mentoring program. Calgary has tried to set up mentoring programs but we do not know how successful this has been. Would it be possible to set up some form of mentorship program with the rocky section. Lara noted that co-leading a trip was beneficial when she was starting as a trip leader. Action Item: The exec to brainstorm ideas for developing a mentorship program. This will be discussed at a future meeting. Motion: That the TNF evaluations be restricted to the section chair, the trips committee and the training and leadership committee. Seconded by Marg. Approved 7) Trips Committee Kris Irwin is resigning as the head of the trips committee as of this spring. John and Shelley have also stepped down. Marg and Felix suggested that new blood may be needed as many of the people that could fill the role are already heavily involved in other areas of the club. Action Item: Marg to advertise the committee on the Spindrift. 8) Avalanche Beacons The CAA has listed single antenna beacons as obsolete. Given the CAA's recommendations Marg suggested that the club no longer accept single antenna beacons on club trips or camps. Felix noted that national is working along the same lines. Motion: Marg moved in accordance the CAA's standards that single antenna beacons no longer be acceptable for rocky mountain section trips or camps as of the fall of 2011. Seconded by Jackie, Approved

Action Item: Marg to advertise in the Spindrift that single antenna beacons will not be acceptable as of the fall of 2011 and to advertise which beacons are considered obsolete.
