WELCOME TO CAMP FRIENDSHIP, DISCOVERY & A PLACE TO BELONG Summer is a special time in a child s life. That s why Y Summer Camp is more than a summer activity for kids. It is a place for achievement, leadership and relationship building. It is a place for kids to belong. CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN is designed for kids preschool age through high school. It is a place for opportunities to explore nature, find new talents, try new activities, gain independence and make lasting friendships and memories. And, of course, it s fun too! The Y strives to offer the highest quality camps with the most diverse opportunities. Great effort is put into creating a fun, safe environment by carefully selecting staff of the highest integrity, personal and spiritual maturity, and enthusiasm about camp. STAFF With a counselor to camper ratio of no more than 1:10, the friendly, knowledgeable counselors are dedicated to ensure that camp is an amazing experience for every camper. The goal of every counselor is to enrich the development of every camper by implementing safe and nurturing activities. All counselors must meet the following criteria before becoming involved with camp: CPR & First Aid Certification Completed Bloodborne Pathogens Training Completed Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training Completed Safety Training Cleared I-Chat Background Check Cleared Abuse and Neglect Check through the Michigan Department of Human Services Cleared Driver Record Check (for those may transport campers)
CAMP DETAILS Camp Hours Monday-Friday 6:30am-6:00pm CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN will run from June19-September 5 THE BEST TIME EVER. THE BEST SUMMER EVER. The Y s CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN combines some of your favorite things with great new elements designed to help your camper grow and thrive over the summer! Occasionally, campers have the option to be bussed from the Y to Munson Park (except field trip days). Upon arrival at Munson Park, the campers will spend their day participating in a variety of camp activities that promote health and wellness, academic achievement, and independence. Campers will then be bussed back to the Y in the afternoon to enjoy swim time, snack and wrap-up activities. In the event of inclement weather, campers will participate in activities at Monroe Church of the Nazarene or the Y. HEALTHY LIVING The CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) program is coming to CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN! This health and wellness program is designed for those in grades K-8, focusing on physical education and nutrition education. CATCH is designed not only to encourage a healthy lifestyle, but also models that being physically active and making nourishing food choices can be fun! LUNCH IS ON US FREE lunch is provided for all campers. Menus are planned in accordance with the USDA guidelines and Y HEPA (Healthy Eating and Physical Activity) Standards, in partnership with the Michigan Department of Education SFSP Meet Up and Eat Up Program. SUMMER LEARNING Camp focuses on summer learning. Though a collaboration with Monroe County Library System, campers will participate in The Y Readers Program. In addition, the campers will have the opportunity to participate in specialty camps and educational field trips.
EVERYONE BELONGS CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN is an INCLUSIVE camp, where all those entering grades K-12 are welcome! Camps are designed in a grade-progression manner based on the interest and ability levels of each camp. ALL CAMPS ARE BASED ON THE GRADE YOUR CHILD IS ENTERING CAMP CARES4U (GRADES K-2) Campers will have the opportunity to learn about the YMCA core values through activities that foster an environment of caring. CAMP TRUBLU (GRADES 3-5) Campers will participate in a variety of activities that are designed to teach self-reliance, a love for nature and the outdoors, build character, independence, and leadership, and allow all campers to be a part of their camp community while focusing on the YMCA core value of Honesty. CAMP RESPECTERS (GRADES 6-8) Campers will spend the summer enhancing independence, responsibility, and leadership skills. Campers will engage in activities that will focus on team-building, creating a sense of respect among the participants. CAMP GREEN LEADERS (GRADES 9-12) Green Leaders will be the participants of the Leaders In Training (LIT) program. This camp will provide opportunities for the older campers, in grades 9-12, to develop leadership skills and experience through a focus of the YMCA core value Responsibility. Career-building skills are also fostered, through an interview process to become an LIT. LIT applications are available at both Member Service Desks at the Y and online at ymcaofmonroe.org/main/summer-camp. LIT APPLICATIONS ARE DUE MAY 8.
GET READY TO COMPETE! (IN A SUPER KIND WAY) CAMP CHARACTER OLYMPICS The Y teaches and models the Character Development Values of CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY and FAITH. Throughout the summer, campers are encouraged to practice these values, which will be recognized and celebrated with this summer s theme, CAMP CHARACTER OLYMPICS! Each camper will acquire 50 points on their first day of camp. Campers have the opportunity to earn additional points by demonstrating the Character Development Values. The Closing Ceremonies at the end of the summer will celebrate the awesome character shown all summer long!

SPORTS AND SPECIALTY CAMPS Grades K-6 All Sports and Specialty Camps are week-long camps that run half day (unless otherwise noted). Campers will spend the week focusing on their favorite sport or area of interest. No experience is necessary to attend these camps. Knowledgeable camp counselors will implement a deeper understanding of each sport or interest. Sports and Specialty Camps are open to everyone entering grades K-6. Those participating in CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN may register for Sports and Specialty Camps in addition to Day Camp for the price of a Full Time week of Day Camp. SPORTS & SPECIALTY CAMP FEES (unless otherwise noted) $70 per child/week* *Additional fees may be applied. *There is a $10 late fee for registrations received after the deadline noted in the camp descriptions. ARTISTS AMONG US July 10-July 14 8:30am-11:30am Registration deadline July 6 Campers will receive instruction in art history and media including drawing, painting, recycled art and more. This is the perfect camp for any camper looking to get creative and build artistic skill! This camp will wrap up with an art show, to display the participants talents. Please note, there is an additional $5 supply fee per child. Register for Artists Among Us Camp and Get Messy Camp and receive a $10 discount off registration for each camp! BASEBALL CAMP July 3rd-July 7th 9:00am-12:00pm Registration deadline June 29 Baseball camp focuses on skill building and the fundamentals of the game. The knowledgeable counselors will provide instruction on hitting mechanics, fielding, throwing, catching, and field positions. Every camper will be provided the opportunity to build sportsmanship, enhance personal skills, and gain confidence. Camp will not be held on Tuesday July 4th. BASKETBALL CAMP July 17-July 22 Registration deadline July 13 Ages 5-8 8:30am-11:30am Ages 9-12 12:00pm-3:00pm Basketball camp focuses on the fundamentals of the game, including dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and teamwork. This camp will help do develop skills, knowledge of the game, and team strategy. FOOTBALL CAMP August 7-August 11 8:30am-11:30am Registration deadline August 3 Football Camp will focus on developing the camper s skills and agility. The fundamentals covered will include passing, catching, kicking, pass routes, defense and positions. Campers will reinforce the techniques learned by playing flag football. GET MESSY CAMP June 26-June 30 12:00pm-3:00pm Registration deadline June 22 Messy Masterpieces Camp will encourage kids to have fun getting messy! Participants will work together to create messy creations with paint, shaving cream, glitter, and much more! This camp will encourage social development and creativity. Register for Artists Among Us Camp and Get Messy Camp and receive a $10 discount off registration for each camp! SCIENCE CAMP July 24 -July 28 9:00pm-12:00pm Registration deadline July 20 Discover a week of all things science! Campers might build a super strong bridge, or a geodesic dome that you and your friends can sit in. Explore the world of birds and beasts with birdhouse building and super bug investigation. Campers will roll up their sleeves in the chemistry lab and mix, mash and brew concoctions to create cool sidewalk chalk and bath fizzers! Campers will have the opportunity to visit Detroit Science Center for an additional fee. It s a week packed with non-stop science fun! SOCCER CAMP August 14-August 18 12:00pm-3:00pm Registration deadline August 10 Soccer Camps focus will be teaching soccer skills such as passing, trapping, shooting, stealing, dribbling, and goal keeping. Campers will also learn the importance of offense and defense, as well as positions. This camp will include drills and games. SPORTS SAMPLER June 31 Aug 4 1:00pm-4:00pm Registration deadline June 27 Sport Sampler Camp will introduce campers to a variety of sports that may include baseball, basketball, floor hockey, football, soccer and much more! Campers will learn the fundamentals of each sport, individual skill conditioning to improve motor skill development and build confidence. WACKY WEEK OF FUN Aug 21-Aug 25 12:00pm-3:00pm Registration deadline Aug 17 Join us as we focus on non-traditional sports and other activities. Games will include capture the flag, disc golf, dodgeball, beach games and so much more!
CALLING ALL PRESCHOOLERS! Our Preschool Camp is designed for those ages 3-5, all children must have completed toilet training. Camp will provide play-to-learn activities that encourage the cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth. In addition, camps will provide social interactions, encourage creativity and teach listening and direction following skills in a fun, nurturing environment. Dr. Seuss Camp July 17-July 21 9:30am-11:30am This camp is unlike any other. Don t ask me why, go ask your mother! Spend a week immersed in a Seussical world with the Yertle, the Lorax, and more!
