Applicants to YMCA John Island Camp & YMCA Camp Falcona (YMCA Sudbury Camping Services) Staff working at both camps are employed by YMCA Sudbury Camping Services. There will be times when staff will help out with both camps for short periods of time as part of a single staff team. All staff may also have the opportunity to rotate through various placements in maintenance, kitchen or other areas of camp as part of their employment. The size and scope of both camps is quite large and we will have people rotate through the various areas of camp to assist with the management of our camps. YMCA Camp Falcona Position Descriptions 2016 Spring Season: May 30 June 29, 2016 : July 3 August 26, 2016 Fall Season: August 29 Sept 25, 2016 Counsellor Counsellors work as part of a counselling team who live on site on a weekly basis. Counsellors are active participants in the camper experience- providing support, supervision, and friendship. In addition to camper care, Falcona counsellors are responsible for facilitating daily programs and will also be expected to supervise campers for one weekend out of the summer. Additional responsibilities include helping out with basic site maintenance and assisting the Day Camp program when needed. Required Qualifications: Standard First Aid with CPR C, Criminal Record Check with, NLS or Bronze Cross certification, must be 17 years of age by December 31, 2016 Preferred Applicants: Fun and responsible individuals with a passion for working with children and being in an outdoor setting. Preference will be given to those who have successfully completed a leadership program or have experience in related fields. Day Camp Counsellor Day Camp Counsellors are responsible for the day-to-day care and supervision of all campers enrolled in Falcona s Day Camp Program. Day Camp staff will facilitate all aspects of day camp programming at both YMCA Camp Falcona and at the downtown YMCA. Day Camp staff are also expected to assist with the Day Camp Overnight which requires staff to stay overnight at Camp for 1 night each week. Additional responsibilities include assisting with Sign-in/out, monitoring campers during transportation to camp, and cleaning up all program areas at the end of each day. Required Qualifications: Standard First Aid with CPR C, Criminal Record Check with Preferred Applicants: NLS or Bronze Cross certification, fun and responsible individuals with a passion for working with children and being in an outdoor setting. Leadership Counsellor Spring Season/ Leadership Counsellors are responsible for facilitating all Leadership activities and programs. Dedicated to providing a fun, safe, and positive atmosphere, Leadership Counsellors must be dedicated to the development and inclusive philosophy of the Leadership Program at Camp Falcona. Leadership Counsellors will develop and facilitate Leadership activities/workshops, instruct participants in a variety of camp specific skills, and lead an offsite canoe trip based out of John Island Camp. Required Qualifications: NLS, Standard First Aid and CPR C, Criminal Record Check with Preferred Qualifications: 3 year counselling experience, previous leadership experience, G Class Driver s License, National Lifesaving Society Swimming Instructor
Dishwasher/Maintenance The Dishwashing/Maintenance staff are responsible for ensuring that all facilities at Camp Falcona are maintained at a high level of cleanliness and are kept in good repair. This includes a regular cleaning schedule of camp buildings and supporting the kitchen on a daily basis. The Dishwasher/Maintenance staff will also be responsible for leading the dishwashing crew and supporting the cooks as needed. Required Qualifications: Standard First Aid and CPR C, Criminal Record Check with, Safe Food Handlers Certification an asset Preferred Applicants: A positive and enthusiastic person who is able to work independently and as part of a team. Assistant Cook The Assistant Cook works as part of the Food Service team. Their primary focus is working directly with the delivery of food services to campers and staff at Falcona. They provide help and support to the Food Service Manager and operations of camp through baking, food preparation, food storage, and kitchen cleaning. The Assistant Cook may take on the responsibilities of the Food Service Manager during his/her absence which may include food ordering, menu planning, and inventory control. Required Qualifications: Standard First Aid and CPR C, Food Safety Training, Criminal Record Check with Preferred Applicants: A positive person with basic cooking skills. Prep Cook The Prep Cook works as part of the Food Service Team. The primary focus is working directly with the delivery of food services to campers and staff at Falcona. They support the kitchen with general operations of camp through food preparation, food storage, and by ensuring a clean and sanitary kitchen. Required Qualifications: Standard First Aid and CPR C, Food Safety Training, Criminal Record Check with Preferred Applicants: A positive person looking to contribute their skills and enthusiasm to a food service area. Food Service Manager (Head Cook) Spring Season//Fall Season (if applicable) The Food Service Manager is responsible for the overall food service operation at camp. This person is responsible for all purchasing with regards to food and kitchen supplies, equipment, and is expected to manage the budget of this area. The Food Service Manager oversees the preparation and serving of all meals to campers and staff with consideration given to specific dietary needs. They are also responsible for ensuring that the kitchen and food storage areas are maintained at a consistently high level of cleanliness. The Food Service Manager ensures that all food is prepared and handled in a safe and healthy manner and that all Ministry of Health guidelines are met. The Food Service Manager is responsible for the planning of nutritious and balanced daily and weekly menus. Preferred Applicants: A mature person with exceptional organizational skills, fiscal responsibility and a G-Class License
Wellness Manager The main focus of the Wellness Manager is to oversee the health, safety management, and overall wellness of campers and staff while on site. Duties of the Wellness Manager include: distribution of medication, stocking First Aid Kits, organizing camper lost and found, managing Cleaning Staff, maintaining inventories of medical supplies, and supporting volunteer health care workers during their stay at camp. The Wellness Manager works closely with the Director and other staff to facilitate timely first aid and emergency procedures as well as distribution of necessary information about wellness to the camp as a whole. Required Qualifications: Standard First Aid and CPR C, Criminal Record Check with, any relevant experience Preferred Qualifications: 40-hr WFA, 2 nd Year Nursing Degree Preferred Applicants: A mature and compassionate person with exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills. Leadership Manager Spring Season/ The Leadership Manager oversees the entire Leadership program at Camp Falcona. In addition to playing an active role in the overall delivery and quality of the program, ongoing training and supporting the Leadership Counsellors will be of the utmost priority. The Leadership Manager will be consistently working at improving all leadership programs throughout the spring season and implementing all schedules during the summer. The Leadership Manager will work closely with the Program Director and Counselling Staff. Required Qualifications: NLS, Standard First Aid and CPR C, Criminal Record Check with Preferred Qualifications: Wilderness First Aid/Wilderness Advanced First Aid, 2 years of Leadership Counselling experience, previous supervisory experience, G Class Driver s License Day Camp Coordinator Spring Season/ The Day Camp Coordinator is responsible for supervision, program development and implementation of all aspects of the Falcona Day Camp Program. This includes the transportation to/from the YMCA and overseeing Sign-in/out at the YMCA. The Day Camp Coordinator will work alongside and supervise the Day Camp Counselors throughout the 8 week day camp program. The Day Camp Coordinator will be expected to handle all communication with all Day Camp Parents/Guardians and with the Camp Director. Required Qualifications: Standard First Aid and CPR C, NLS, Criminal Record Check with Preferred Applicants: Excellent time management and organizational skills. A fun and responsible individual who can provide a safe environment for campers. Good interpersonal skills are an asset.
Program Director Spring Season//Fall Season (if applicable) The Program Director is responsible for monitoring the overall program operation at camp including Day Camp. This includes the supervision of counsellors and leadership staff, land and water program areas, all cabin groups and camp wide programs. This person oversees all program equipment on site, and is responsible for ensuring that adequate supplies are available for campers during each session. The Program Director will accompany the Day Camp Staff to the YMCA for Monday Pick-ups and to meet the Parents.. Required Qualifications: NLS, First Aid, CPR, Criminal Record Check, G Class Drivers License Preferred Applicants: Mature and patient individual with a commitment to staff development through positive coaching, a strong understanding of Y mission and values, and extensive organizational and programming experience. Assistant Director Spring Season//Fall Season (if applicable) The Assistant Director lives on site and works alongside the Director as part of the administrative team. The Assistant Director supervises and evaluates counselors and oversees the operation of camp during program time. Their primary focus is to oversee the logistical and administrative aspects of camp. Additional responsibilities include communication with camper parents (via telephone & email), inventory and sales in the Tuck Shop (camp store), updating the camp Facebook page, and general office administration (daily incoming and outgoing mail, petty cash, camper records, etc.). The Assistant Director will also support staff when dealing with behavioral issues. Required Qualifications: Standard First Aid, CPR C, Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, relevant camp experience. Preferred Applicants: NLS, Pleasure Craft Operator, Positive and motivated self-starter, the ability to work as part of a team, G-Class License.
OUTDOOR EDUCATION POSTION DESCRIPTION Program Instructor Must be 19 years of age to begin employment Contract: May 30 June 29, 2016 Program Specialists serve as instructors for all programs that run at JIC and Falcona during the spring season (and fall season at Camp Falcona). Program Specialists instruct all water and land-based programs and have a good working knowledge of all program activities that take place at camp. Program Specialists act as hosts and facilitators for all school groups who visit the site, and provide support services for the delivery of the group's programs, and may coordinate group visits. In addition to the active delivery of programs, spring staff may also take part in opening each resource area for the season, site maintenance and upgrades, kitchen work, and general preparations for the summer season in each program area. Required Qualifications: NLS, Standard First Aid and CPR C, Criminal Record Check with Preferred Applicants: Flexible and hard working staff that enjoy working in a team environment and are interested in fulfilling a summer role.
