4 4 A Survivex Welcome A Survivex Welcome Allow us to introduce Survivex, one of Europe s most advanced training providers. We have a reputation, which is built on quality and experience of providing training designed to save lives. Our headquarters in Aberdeen consists of a 53,000ft 2 facility which contains 19 classrooms, with a range of equipment and training simulators which are used to provide some of the most realistic training in the industry. Our simple aim is to offer training which replicates the real thing. Whether this is survival training in one of our two training pools, which contains an effects simulator, where we can recreate offshore storm conditions. In 2013 we invested over 1 million to create the only on-site fire training ground in the north east of Scotland. Quite simply, we can meet all your training needs under one roof. This guide is designed to provide information about Survivex, what we can offer and also what to expect when arriving in Aberdeen, the Granite City. 14 14 What to Do What to Do Aberdeen is an international city that offers a range of dining, social and outdoor activities. Located on the North East coast of Scotland, Aberdeen has many beautiful sites, including a beachfront with over 2 miles of golden sands. This is where Aberdeen got one of its many names, which include the silver city with the golden sands. In recent surveys, Aberdeen was ranked as the 4th most habitable city in the United Kingdom and 56th in the world. The quality of living and rich history in the oil and gas industry makes Aberdeen one of eight super cities, which drive the economy of the UK. With a population of over 225,000 people, Aberdeen has an abundance of history to keep any visitor occupied. One of Aberdeen s proudest monuments is the Marischal College. A Gothic granite building constructed in 1837 and designed by the legendary Archibald Simpson, the Marischal College to this day remains the second largest granite building in the world. Speaking of granite, Aberdeen has the largest man made hole in Europe. Rubislaw quarry was quarried for over 300 years and the granite produced has been used to construct some of the most famous buildings in the UK. Granite from Rubislaw was used during the construction of the Houses of Parliament, Waterloo Bridge and the Forth Rail Bridge. Outwith the city limits, Aberdeenshire has a range of modern and historical attractions. For example, Cruden Bay is home to Slains Castle, located approximately 40 minutes from the city, the ruin is rumoured to be the inspiration for Bram Stoker s Dracula.

19 Quality Policy Statement 19 Quality Policy Statement The Directors, Management and Staff of Survivex Ltd. are committed to the quality delivery of training and assessment in accordance with: Standards developed by other approval bodies which assist in assuring the competence and safety in the workplace e.g. OPITO, SQA, MCA, RTITB, CAA, IOSH, etc. Client specific standards. In order to ensure compliance with approval bodies approval requirements, the Directors of Survivex Ltd. shall: Operate a formally documented and effective Management System. Provide resources which ensure consistent and quality delivery of training and assessment Standards. Recruit and develop sufficient staff with the appropriate qualifications and experience to deliver training and/ or assessment which is current and reliable. Provide a formally documented Training & Assessment system which ensures that the appropriate Standards are maintained. To ensure that the policy is successfully implemented and continual improvement maintained, quality performance objectives shall be set and monitored via regular Management Review. 21 Equal Opportunities 21 Barriers to Assessment Upholding Standards All assessments will be completed against the standard from which the course was conceived, all candidates will be given a fair opportunity to complete their award. In accordance with Provisions for individual s requirements procedure, candidates will be given an opportunity to bring to Survivex s attention any concerns or issues that the delegate may feel will make their attempt to complete an award unachievable. This may include, but is not limited to: English as a second language Dyslexia Physical / sensory impairments Or any other reasonable concern that would discriminate against a delegate achieving the award. During course booking and enrolment, candidates will be requested to communicate any potential issues that they feel may cause a disadvantage to them developing their skills to the required standard leading to achievement of the award. This is done so in accordance with Survivex policies and procedures. Upon completion of their award, candidates will be given the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience while completing a course with Survivex. All feedback is reviewed and where required acted upon by the relevant team leader. Where reasonably practicable, Survivex will provide services or facilities to allow those on a course to be able to have full participation with little to no detriment during their time completing their training and/or assessments. Any assistance given to candidates to remove barriers for achieving their award, must be given fairly and impartially ensuring no unfair advantage over other candidates. Subsequently, this maintains fair assessment for all attending candidates attempting to attain their award.
