4 1 Introduction Thank you for choosing an Eseye Pelican AMR Gateway! All Eseye products are M2M-grade and can include use of the AnyNet global managed connectivity. There are too many different connected applications for which this gateway can be used to include them all in this document. We regularly add user guides to the suite of guides for our products so if you need information that you do not find here please feel free to ask us for it. This guide has been written for use by technically competent persons with a good understanding of communications technologies used for AMR gateways, mobile networks and IP products, and of the requirements for their specific application. 2 Pelican description The Pelican from Eseye is a GSM enabled AMR gateway. It has been designed to be part of a meter connectivity integration project by providing pulse measurements for any standard utility meter such as for electricity, gas and water monitoring. The Eseye Pelican is designed specifically to interface with any standard utility meter and offers: GSM 900MHz / 1800MHz Any Network Embedded SIM External Antenna Options Single Channel Pulse Input Power Fail Alert Configurable Reporting Period Web Portal or API 2.1 Data recording and storing Data is stored in 30 minute intervals, a rate that was set to balance network data-transfer price and performance. It is possible to change these settings but it should be noted that if the data is sent more often, there will be a slight increase in the data charges. 3 Pre-installation Prior to installation, the equipment should be registered. 5 4 Technical specification The pelican is designed to interface to a certified meter with a pulse output. E.g. ABB s OD1365. All meter manufacturers have pulse output meters so there is no restriction. NOTE The Eseye Shoebill Utility Monitor is similar, but uses a current clamp to measure the electricity usage. However it is not as accurate as a meter (+-5%) so cannot be used for billing purposes. 6 5 Installation instructions The Eseye Pelican is designed to be DIN rail mounted. To mount the Pelican on a DIN rail 1. Line up the top of the equipment (the antenna side) against the DIN rail, 2. Push the bottom towards the rail until it locks into place. To remove the Pelican from the DIN rail mounting a screwdriver can be used to lever the white locking mechanism on the bottom underside of the Pelican. The power supply should be rated at 5 Volts DC, with a minimum current rating of 300 ma (1.5 Watt). Supply wiring should be suitably rated for the power requirements of the equipment. Once installed and powered on the ONLINE LED indicator will begin to flash, while the equipment has successfully established a GSM connection the indicator will go solid. ONLINE PULSE Antenna The safety of any system incorporating the equipment is the responsibility of the assembler of the system. An example of a Pelican in situ 5 Volts Ground Pulse 6 Precautions 6.1 General Precautions While in use, at least 20cm distance should be kept between the antenna and the human body. A drop or heavy impact may cause damage to the Pelican. If the Product experiences a drop or heavy impact safely dispose of it immediately, even if the equipment does not appear damaged. 6.2 Disposal of the Pelican Correct disposal of this product. The Pelican should not be disposed of with other household waste at the end of its working life. To prevent possible harm to the environment or human health from uncontrolled waste disposal, please separate the product from other types of waste and recycle it responsibly to promote the sustainable reuse of material resources. Users should contact either the supplier where they purchased this product, or their local government office, for details of where and how they can take these items for environmentally safe recycling. This product should not be mixed with other commercial wastes for disposal. This equipment is compliant with RoHS. Page 5

6.3 Product Uses and installation requirements The Eseye Pelican is designed for indoor use only. The product should not be exposed to any water, or other liquid.

Use within an environment that exposes the product to any liquid is not recommended. Housing of the product within a suitably rated protective enclosure is recommended. 6.4 Product Servicing The Eseye Pelican contains no user serviceable parts; the product should not be dismantled for any reason. 7 Data Portal There are options as to how to access the data reported by the Pelican. One portal that Eseye can supply is emig and it is also possible to obtain API information from Eseye to ensure data flows to a 3 rd party portal. 7.1 emig Portal The data resulting from Pelican use can be viewed in the Energy Meter Information Gateway (emig) which is an online tool for remotely measuring and monitoring use as recorded by the Pelican. emig can provide warnings via and SMS messaging of system failures and abnormal events.
