About Northern Powerhouse Rail This is a transformational programme to better connect the key economic areas and cities of the North. We will link the North s six major city regions, Newcastle, Sheffield, Hull, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool, as well as Manchester Airport and our other economic centres, with rapid, frequent and reliable rail services. We work closely with our local authority partners, the Department for Transport, and our delivery partners, Network Rail and HS2. This flagship programme will: Support the creation of 850,000 jobs by 2050 Increase the population within 60 minutes of four major Northern cities or Manchester Airport from less than 10,000 today to 1.3 million Support a 100bn boost to the economy by 2050
