3 Pawel Kazmierczak Shutterstock patrice6000 Shutterstock Pawel Kazmierczak Shutterstock BIENVENUE EN CORSE An island of breathtaking natural beauty, fascinating history and culture, fabulous cuisine and a blissful coastline; Corsica will undoubtedly capture the heart of all that visit its shores. Lying just over 160 kilometres from the south-east coast of the mainland, Corsica is easily overlooked when people think of France. The justifiably named Île de Beauté dazzles with a diverse landscape of mountain peaks, fragrant scrubland, ancient hilltop villages and chic resorts. Rachel Johnston - France Magazine Despite being our closest Mediterranean island, located just over two hours from the UK, and the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean, Corsica still remains a mystery to most. A French island basking in the Italian sun was how the French writer Balzac described it Corsica lies some 160km off the French coast and 80km from Italy. Geographically, the island is tuned into Italy but France governs it, meaning that Corsica showcases a unique blend of French and Italian flavours, yet all the while it retains its own distinct personality. One of the biggest draws for those visiting Corsica is its 1,000km of glorious coastline, home to close to 200 beaches. Thanks to the island s diverse landscape, there is a real variety of beaches to visit from secluded coves to vast sandy bays, and nowhere else has seascapes as dramatic as the plunging red granite pinnacles of the west coast or the dazzling white cliffs of Bonifacio. The drama of the inland mountains, the forests and aroma of the maquis, all of these elements add to Corsica s unique appeal and identity, setting it apart from the other Mediterranean islands. Around a third of the island is designated National Park, home to the highest mountains and most rivers of any Mediterranean island. Running as a spine down the length of the island, the highest peaks reach nearly 3,000m, with around twenty peaks over 2,000m. Corsica is cut by deep gorges, echoing with tumbling streams, surrounded by fragrant pine forests that cover the mountains, providing the perfect playground for adventurers and outdoor sport enthusiasts of all levels. Laid-back and with a lack of pretention, Corsica is one of the most wonderful and hospitable islands in the Mediterranean. It is steeped in tradition, with the culture bearing witness to the island s often turbulent past, perhaps a reason why Corsicans are such proud, generous and very free-spirited people. The rich and chequered history of Corsica manifests itself around every corner, presented in the form of some fascinating architecture, unique polyphonic singing and an abundance of festivals throughout the year. What s more? You ll find fabulous cuisine and delicious wines all around the island; another memorable flavour of Corsica s character. So, whether you re looking for a traditional family beach holiday, a self-drive holiday discovering the breathtaking mountain scenery, a romantic break right in the heart of an atmospheric citadel, or a more energetic, activity-filled experience Corsica has something for everyone. Let us share our passion and love for this astonishing place with you; we have handpicked a great range of Corsican properties for you to choose from, as well as put together a wide selection of tailormade holidays to best help you explore the diversity of this quintessentially Mediterranean island. 4 For more information or to book online visit corsica.co.uk Jon Ingall Shutterstock Call the Corsican experts on

Perched high on a promontory with its fortress-like buildings, the citadel offers spectacular views across the bay with snow-dusted mountains as a backdrop. The town below is a colourful array of buildings with narrow cobbled streets, little shops and a lively harbourside lined with vibrant restaurant terraces and swanky yachts. And with a gorgeous 6km stretch of beach, shallow water and excellent range of facilities there is no better place to soak up the island s culture and relaxed local lifestyle. Sant Ambroggio, Algajola, Marine de Davia & Lumio The coastline that runs from Calvi to L Ile Rousse has some of the best beaches in Corsica, making these seaside villages so appealing. Backed by high mountains that remain snow-capped until early summer and more rustic at heart, these small resorts offer the perfect backdrop for a relaxing holiday. L Ile Rousse L Ile Rousse is a laid-back and authentic town with a real life of its own. Boasting a superb white-sand beach and a bustling marketplace, you ll soon want to immerse yourself in the local life try a game of pétanque on the square or mingle with the locals for an evening apéritif beneath the plane trees. The streets of the old town come alive at night, with many restaurants to tempt you. Balagne villages Towering above the coast, the villages of la Balagne offer a glimpse into the traditional Corsican way of life and are rich with artisans, local produce and stunning viewpoints. A network of scenic drives and marked trails between villages, this is one of the most rewarding areas to visit on the island. St Florent Tucked away between the Désert des Agriates and Cap Corse, St Florent has much to offer with its bustling waterfront, chic marina and charming old town. Oozing an intimate and laid-back atmosphere, it s the ideal place for a relaxing holiday. Enjoy the spectacular views across the bay from your private villa, or take a boat trip to the fabulous beaches of Saleccia and Loto. Patrimonio & Oletta If you re looking for a taste of unspoilt Corsica whilst not being far away from St Florent, Patrimonio and Oletta tick all the boxes with their beautiful hillside scenery, renowned vineyards and pretty churches. Cap Corse To the north, you ll find the wild and rugged Cap Corse. Split into two by the Serra mountain range, it is a land of Genoese watchtowers, pretty harbour towns, enchanting perched villages and quiet sandy coves. L EXTRÊME SUD Porto Vecchio The coastline around Porto Vecchio could easily be mistaken for one of far flung lands with its stretches of gorgeous white-sand beaches, crystalclear water and a wonderful backdrop of scented pine forests some say they are the best in the Mediterranean. The town itself boasts a buzzing atmosphere in a typical Mediterranean setting of cobbled streets, café terraces, harbourside restaurants and chic boutiques. There s also plenty to do for the more active with walking, horse riding and water sports on offer. Bonifacio For a town full of character, look no further than Bonifacio. Perched precariously on a limestone cliff high above the sea, little changed in centuries. A myriad of narrow cobbled streets filled with shops, bars and restaurants makes the citadel a wonderful place to explore. At its feet, you ll discover the luxury yacht-filled marina and more superb restaurants. With the Sperone golf course on its doorstep and the island of Sardinia within easy reach, Bonifacio has a distinctly cosmopolitan feel. Valinco Gulf The Valinco is one of the most beautiful gulfs on the west coast, and has much to offer idyllic sandy beaches, picturesque coves of golden sand fringed by rocks, quaint seaside resorts and breathtakingly unspoilt mountain scenery. Inhabited for millennia, the various settlers have left their mark on the landscape, from the standing stones of Filitosa to the Genoese towers on each headland, making this an area rich in historical interest. Ajaccio Gulf Ajaccio is the bustling capital city where old streets, squares and cafés can be found in abundance. Heading south around the bay, you ll find glorious and sometimes secluded beaches from Porticcio to Portigliolo. With water sports on offer and superb views out towards Ajaccio and the rugged headland of the Iles Sanguinaires, the area is ideal for a beach holiday. Porto Gulf The coast of the Gulf of Porto is one of Corsica s most famous landscapes. With stunning cliffs plunging into the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean, and the picturesque villages of Porto and Piana backed by high mountain peaks, this scenery will certainly take your breath away. The area is best viewed from the sea or explored on foot, and there are a number of spectacular marked trails for keen walkers. CENTRAL CORSICA Moving inland from the coast through pine forests and chestnut woods, you ll find fascinating little villages set against a spectacular backdrop of rugged granite mountains. A wide range of outdoor activities are on offer in the mountainous interior, and the scenery will not fail to impress with serene lakes, dramatic waterfalls and tumbling streams meandering through pineclad gorges. 5 CULTURE & LIFESTYLE A beautiful unspoilt island. Fantastic beaches and excellent cuisine. Mr Blemkin - Guest Despite being our closest Mediterranean island, Corsica remains the Mediterranean s best-kept secret, offering a sublime mix of astonishing scenery and thriving culture. Calvi Eugene Sergeev Shutterstock Pawel Kazmierczak Alamy Stock CORSICAN IDENTITY FOOD AND WINE SHOPPING AND MARKETS NIGHTLIFE Corsica is an island with a turbulent and fascinating past. Most famous as Napoléon Bonaparte s birthplace, its strategic position has meant invasion and resistance have been recurring themes in the island s history. Corsicans are proud of their heritage and their deep love for their island is often expressed through their language or their music. They re also generous and free-spirited and you will not find more hospitable hosts. Corsican food could be said to be something of a microcosm of the island itself: somewhere between French and Italian but with many distinctly Corsican flavours unique to the island. Corsicans take their food and drink very seriously and it is quite common for locals to take a leisurely three-course lunch accompanied by a few glasses of Corsican wine. This also means that standards in restaurants are generally high and always authentic. The earthy style cooking takes its inspiration from the land, with sun-loving fruits and vegetables, maquis-scented herbs, cured meats and cheeses. As for the wine, well, you won t be disappointed. Corsica produces very good quality reds and rosés with underlying flavours of the maquis and many now with the French AOC accreditation. With some outstanding exceptions, Corsica is not generally known for its white wines, although its delicious Muscat de Cap Corse, a rich and sweet dessert wine, is very popular with both locals and visitors alike. The island also has its own beers and a selection of fortified fruit wines and apéritifs. So just remember to leave room in your luggage for a few bottles! Corsica offers a great variety of gastronomic delights, from maquis-flavoured honey and a wide range of chestnut-based products, to charcuterie and cheeses. The best place to sample and purchase local produce is at the lively, colourful markets in most of the main towns. Local specialities are also available in the small specialist such as épiceries, boulangeries and charcuteries and for the opportunity to find out more about the products, meet the local producers on their farm or visit a vineyard for an afternoon. There are souvenir shops available in the main resorts but if you are looking for something traditionally Corsican, then we recommend visiting one of the handicraft shops or craftsmen s workshops, where efforts to revive the ancient arts of knife-making, pottery and stoneware, basket-weaving and glassblowing are proving increasingly popular. Nightlife in Corsica is generally laid-back and tends to be based around gathering for an early evening apéritif and dining at one of the many restaurants which can be found in towns and villages across the island. If you are looking for somewhere to enjoy a few post-dinner drinks, the larger towns will have a good selection of bars to choose from and even most small villages have a bar where you can enjoy a glass of the local wine. Corsica s unique polyphonic music is hauntingly beautiful and has undergone a revival in recent years. Today it still remains an integral part of the island s traditional culture and there are many places across the island which host events featuring a mixture of Corsican choral and folk tunes these are well worth attending, the music is excellent and the atmosphere vibrant. FESTIVALS AND EVENTS Corsica is an island of culture with an abundance of music, art and cultural festivals. Many of the villages also hold fetes to celebrate their local crafts and produce, as well as religious or historical events. Here s a list of the top festivals and events taking place in the summer or for a full diary of events visit our website corsica.co.uk/festivals MAY A Fiera di u Casgiu in Venaco The island s premier cheese festival and the perfect venue to sample other local produce. JUN Jazz in Aiacciu An annual event showcasing some of the most exciting artists of the international and French jazz scene. JUL Festivoce in Pigna A more traditional celebration of Corsican music and arts with concerts of polyphonic music. JUL Les Nuits de la Guitare in Patrimonio The amphitheatre of Patrimonio is the setting for this wonderful festival, drawing stars from the world of guitar be it jazz, flamenco, blues or rock. JUL Fiera di u Vinu in Luri A popular fair inviting the public to taste wines from across Corsica and a major gathering for the island s wine producers. JUL Fiera di l Alivu in Montegrosso Around 10,000 visitors honour the olive in a delightful olive grove setting with exhibitions and local artisan stalls. JUL Festi Lumi in Bonifacio A magical festival of lights across the streets of Bonifacio with concerts and a light show. JUL Calvi on the Rocks An electric mix of electro-pop and rock music performed on the beach or in the citadel. 14TH JUL Bastille Day A nationwide celebration to commemorate the French revolution and the end of the Ancien Régime with various parades, evening entertainment and firework displays. AUG Les Fêtes Napoléoniennes in Ajaccio Ajaccio celebrates the birthday of Corsica s most famous son with period processions and a firework display. AUG Porto Latino in St Florent A hot Latin festival with nightly open-air concerts held in the citadel. SEP Rencontres Polyphoniques in Calvi Polyphonic singing is at the heart of Corsican culture and musicians from around the world perform in the citadel at this event. 8 For more information or to book online visit corsica.co.uk Call the Corsican experts on

6 I always hesitate slightly about recommending Corsica to others but only because I want to keep it as an unspoilt secret. Mrs Liming - Guest L ILE DE BEAUTÉ TOP 10 PLACES Corsica is an island abounding in natural beauty and fascinating traditions, and one of the things we love about it is that it can still feel like something of a secret. While your sun-drenched villa terrace or hotel pool might be the focus of your stay, be sure to explore further afield. From secluded bays to vast ocean-sprayed clifftops, from the granitic drama of mountain passes to the gentler drama of the maquis-covered hillsides, the spellbinding landscapes of Corsica will leave you with the most lasting impression. There are so many reasons why you should visit Corsica, but to make things easier, we ve compiled a list of our ultimate top 10 natural beauty spots on the island. La Balagne Pigna, la Balagne Golfe de Porto Julia Remezova Shutterstock BEACHES With almost 200 beaches and 1,000km of coastline, Corsica is a beach lover s dream. The island is blessed with an incredible diversity of beaches from intimate hidden coves perfect for couples, shaded and gently shelving beaches ideal for children as well as magnificent bays just right for water sports. Some say Corsican beaches are amongst the best in the Mediterranean and at Corsican Places, we tend to agree! The most renowned include the sweeping bays of Calvi and L Ile Rousse in the north, and Palombaggia, Pinarello and Cupabia beaches in the south. PERCHED VILLAGES OF LA BALAGNE Time seems to be held in suspension in the hills of la Balagne and a visit to these beautiful hilltop villages is a must if you re staying in the north. Clinging to mountains above the sea, they give a glimpse of the old days in Corsica and afford spectacular viewpoints with narrow cobbled streets winding around pretty churches and small local cafés with a panoramic backdrop. DÉSERT DES AGRIATES Situated between la Balagne and St Florent, the Désert des Agriates is an area of arid landscape and savage beauty. The highlights here include the deserted beaches of Saleccia and Loto with their curves of pearl-white sand and crystal-clear water, they offer the perfect picture-postcard scenery and are not to be missed if you re in the area (only accessible by boat or on foot). Another beach worth visiting is Ostriconi, a back-to-nature beach at the mouth of the river Ostriconi. David Abram Call the Corsican experts on

7 Roccapina Bay Corte Irina Kuzmina Shutterstock Restonica Valley Jon Ingall Shutterstock Lavezzi Islands Piana Stephane Bidouze Shutterstock LES CALANCHES DE PIANA & SCANDOLA The coast of the Gulf of Porto is one of Corsica s most famous landscapes, and rightly so with its dramatic sculpted red rock and sweeping bays it has to be seen to be believed. The pinnacles and ravines of the red granite Calanches soar out of beautiful blue seas framed by the jagged peaks of Paglia Orba. They are best explored on foot or by boat and there are daily boat trips from Porto that visit this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Further north, you ll find Scandola, one of the largest natural sites in Europe, which displays an explosion of colours and breathtakingly beautiful landscapes. Stacked slabs, towering pinnacles and gnarled, claw-like outcrops of rock were formed by volcanic eruptions 250 million years ago and a subsequent erosion has fashioned spectacular shapes in the rock. The colours are remarkable and vary from charcoal grey to incandescent reds and rusty purples which strike a vivid contrast with the deep green maquis and the cobalt blue sea. The headland and its surrounding waters were declared a nature reserve in 1975, so wildlife is as varied here as anywhere in Corsica. CAP CORSE THE RUGGED BEAUTY OF THE SOUTHWEST COAST Because of the nature of the landscape, many of Corsica s beaches are hidden coves accessible only on foot or by boat there s certainly something magical about exploring the coastal paths and stumbling across a deserted cove washed by the warm deep blue of the Mediterranean. Our favourite coastal stretches include the Gulf of the Valinco, Campomoro- Tizzano, and the Gulf of Roccapina further south. GORGES OF RESTONICA & TAVIGNANO The region of Corte offers beautiful rugged landscape and you ll find two of the most spectacular glacier-moulded gorges in the Mediterranean right on the town s doorstep the Restonica and the Tavignano. These valleys echo with tumbling rivers and rock pools, and sharply sculptured slopes rear from forests of enormously tall Corsican pines they provide the perfect spots for outdoor activities including wild-swimming, walking, canyoning or rafting. The Tavignano is home to the deepest gorge on the island whilst the Restonica river leads to two wellknown lakes, Lac de Melo and Lac de Capitello. FORTRESS TOWN OF BONIFACIO This majestic old town sits on a limestone throne at the far south of the island and is one of the most spectacular towns in the Mediterranean. The citadel walls and ancient houses appear to rise seamlessly out of sheer cliffs that have been hollowed and striated by the wind and waves. Beneath, an inlet about 100 metres wide forms a natural harbour and a series of grottoes and coves. For the best vantage points, walk along the cliffs to the Pertusato lighthouse and admire the views back towards the town or jump on a boat and take in the beauty of the cliffs from the sea. LAVEZZI ISLANDS Situated between Corsica and Sardinia, the archipelago of Lavezzi is a sublime sight and something of a paradise. The 10 small islands boast a number of secluded beaches, coves and naturally formed pools and the magnificent underwater offer opportunities for some of the best diving on the island. They re the perfect destination for a day of blissful relaxation and are relatively easy to access by boat from Bonifacio. L Ile Rousse Bonifacio Often called an island within an island, the Cap Corse is wild and rugged, and its history sets it apart from the rest of the island. 40 kilometres long and only 15 across, this peninsula gives access to some exceptionally beautiful and unspoilt stretches of coast villages perched on cliffs and secluded rocky inlets line the west while tiny fishing ports and sandy coves fringe the east. Enjoy some coastal walks along the rugged northern coast or take a day to drive around the cape and discover landscapes of astounding beauty at your own pace. THE DRAMATIC BAVELLA MASSIF Drive inland from Porto Vecchio high up into the Bavella Massif, an area of outstanding beauty towering over the Gulf of Porto Vecchio and whose granite needles and dense forests form one of the most celebrated Corsican landscapes. The views from here are genuinely jaw-dropping and the opportunities for walking or outdoor pursuits of all kind are aplenty. Why not take things at a slower pace and relax by the crystalline rock pools of Purcaraccia or the waterfalls of Piscia di Gallo? 12 For more information or to book online visit corsica.co.uk Call the Corsican experts on

11 Valinco & the West Coast AJACCIO PORTO POLLO AJACCIO AIRPORT PROPRIANO Fantastically sculpted by wind and sea over the years, the west coast is an area of extraordinary landscapes from picturesque sandy coves to astounding rugged cliffs that plunge into the ocean, it offers some of the most spectacular scenery across the whole of Corsica. CAMPOMORO SARTÈNE FIGARI AIRPORT Top 10 things to do Cupabia beach Corentin Shutterstock Golfe de Porto Dusan Zidar Shutterstock Stretching between the headlands of Capo di Muro and Campomoro, the Valinco is the most southerly of the four great bays indenting Corsica s west coast. Here, Genoese watchtowers perch proudly over idyllic hidden coves and crystal-clear bays, while coarse mountains and superb panoramas dominate much of the landscape. The Valinco Gulf offers holiday-makers the opportunity to get away from the crowds and enjoy a completely authentic Corsican experience, in one of the most quintessentially Corsican corners of the island. With its array of tempting restaurants and buzzing café terraces lining the marina, Propriano is a popular resort, exuding a real traditional feel and relaxed atmosphere the perfect place to lounge, indulge yourself with a lazy lunch or simply watch the world go by. It s also an important departure point for boat trips and water sports. Inland from Propriano, you ll find the perched village of Olmeto, oozing with Corsican charm and spectacular vistas across the Valinco bay. Sitting at the southern tip of the gulf and crowned by the largest Genoese tower on the island, Campomoro is a pretty little seaside village with a perfectly curved sandy bay and a couple of good restaurants. From here, you can access some of the wildest and most rugged stretches of coast on the island, a paradise for walkers and pleasure boats. Driving along the coastline, you ll find Olmeto Plage, Capicciolo and Abbartello beaches, all boasting picturesque golden coves fringed by rocks and lapped by exceptionally clear water. And marking the north of the Valinco gulf, Porto Pollo is a quaint fishing village with a handful of restaurants and a good diving centre. The west coast is also home to the Ajaccio Gulf one of Corsica s real beauties. The bloodred hues of les Iles Sanguinaires at sunset and the sweeping silvery strands of beaches make this area a real focal point for holiday-makers, and a place which we highly recommend you visit. Corsica s capital, Ajaccio sparkles with a Mediterranean buzz, where you ll find bustling squares and cafés on every corner, with ample culture and many places that celebrate Corsica s famous son Napoléon Bonaparte. Heading further north, Porto and Piana claim to be situated in one of the most beautiful bays in the world, and there are few who would argue. The scenery surrounding the Porto Gulf is spectacular, with eroded red granite headlands plunging into the calm waters below. Porto and Piana themselves are both picturesque sleepy fishing villages, offering superb viewpoints over the gulf and providing the ideal base for walkers and explorers. Corsica s west coast is a true beauty to behold. With superb sea and mountain views, rugged beaches and quaint little villages all common occurrences, you can experience a completely different holiday here to other parts of the island. 1. 22 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO ACCESS TO ACCOMMODATION Access to self-catering properties is from 4pm on the day of arrival, and on the day of departure the accommodation must be vacated by 10am. The owners and cleaners will need access without guests present, to ensure it is properly cleaned and ready for your holiday. ADVANCE PASSENGER INFORMATION (API) Most airlines now legally require us to collect Advance Passenger Information (API) for all passengers (including infants) flying to and from the UK. Before departure we require full passport details. These can be added via our website or by calling us please note we cannot issue your travel documents without this information. AIR-CONDITIONING AND HEATING If air-conditioning or heating is available at a property, it is usually included in our holiday price and listed within the property description. However, at a few properties air-conditioning may only be booked and paid for locally, if this is the case we will advise you at the time of booking. As part of our Sustainable Tourism code we ask that air-conditioning should be used sensibly: windows and doors should be kept closed; the units should be turned off when guests leave the properties; and shutters and windows should be closed during the hottest part of the day to increase efficiency. BARBECUES If a property has a barbecue, it will be mentioned in the property description, and in Premium villas we also provide charcoal and lighters. As the heat of the summer months can provoke fires, please use barbecues sensibly and note that in some areas, barbecues are actually prohibited at certain times due to heightened fire risks. BUILDING WORKS Whilst tightly controlled, resorts can experience some building work from time to time and we will advise you prior to departure of any that we feel will impact on your holiday, as soon as we become aware. However, we are not always informed in advance of work carried out by third parties and have no control over their plans. We will endeavour to find alternative accommodation for you, although in some cases, particularly in high season, this may not be possible. CLEANING Our self-catering properties are cleaned for your arrival and bed linen, bath and hand towels are provided at the beginning of your stay. Premium villas are also cleaned midweek. We provide each of our properties with general cleaning products and we ask guests to do a minimal clean to include cleaning of surfaces, cleaning barbecue, clearing perishable food away and disposing of all rubbish, leaving all crockery washed up and put away before they vacate their property. Failure to do so may incur a charge for the additional cleaning required, which can be expensive. CLIMATE Corsica has one of the highest sunshine records in France with an average of 2,793 hours a year. The island, as with the rest of the Mediterranean, is influenced by the winds with the temperature moderated by the mountains. In the early season the days are longer and the clear air means the sun can be very hot, although the sea will not warm up until early June. Average summer temperatures normally reach a very pleasant 25 C rising to 35 C in July / August with sea temperatures reaching their peak by mid-august. At the end of the season the days will be shorter, and the sea remains warm enough to swim comfortably until mid-october. COTS AND HIGHCHAIRS Foldable highchairs and travel cots are provided free of charge in our self-catering properties if requested at time of booking. Cots are not supplied with linen so please remember to take your own. Cots and highchairs can also be requested for hotel bookings, please note a small supplement may apply. DÉCOR As properties are generally Corsican or French owned, the décor may reflect the local lifestyle and the owner s taste. A dining table and chairs can be given more priority than comfortable indoor chairs, as this is more in keeping with a Mediterranean outdoor lifestyle. Floors are generally not carpeted and curtains are often decorative with shutters used to block out the light. Simpler properties can have basic kitchen facilities so should you have any special requirements please let us know. DOCUMENTATION, PASSPORTS AND VISAS Tickets and travel documentation are sent out 14 days prior to departure. For travel to Corsica you will need a valid passport for all members of your family. If you are NOT a citizen of the UK, Ireland, another EU country, Switzerland, Canada or the USA, you may also need a visa (please contact the French Embassy for details). Please note we are also legally required to collect all passengers passport information before departure and tickets will not be issued without this. GETTING ABOUT Hiring a car is the best way to get out and about, giving you the freedom to explore the island at your leisure. Many coastal and mountain roads are narrow and winding, with very little room for manoeuvre and as a rule of thumb, 50 kilometres will take at least an hour. Outside July and August, the roads are less busy. As with the rest of the Mediterranean, other road users may seem to the UK driver to drive unpredictably. Public transport is limited on the island with the exception of the train from Bastia via Corte to Ajaccio, with a branch line from Ponte Leccia to L Ile Rousse and Calvi. Traditionally it s a boneshaker of a ride, the reason why the locals call it U Trinighellu the trembler. It is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the island, a must do with stunning panoramas that you just won t see from the car, as well as a useful means of getting about. Please note however, this service can occasionally be a little unreliable and departures times are not always guaranteed. The mainline from Bastia to Ajaccio cuts through the heart of the mountains over viaducts and bridges through no less than 38 tunnels placing it among the world s top scenic railways. FLIGHT TIMES AND DELAYS Occasionally, despite the best efforts of all concerned, flights are delayed for reasons beyond our control. In the event of a lengthy delay we always do our best to provide refreshments when appropriate. Airlines and flight times are sometimes subject to changes beyond our control, in which instance we will of course contact you as soon as we are advised. FOREIGN & COMMONWEALTH OFFICE ADVICE The Foreign & Commonwealth Office produces up-to-date travel information to help British travellers make informed decisions about travelling abroad. For more information please see HEALTH AND SAFETY The welfare of our customers is our prime consideration and we are committed to raising the standards of health and safety in our properties and to continue to identify areas where safety can be improved. General safety regulations do vary from country to country and are often less stringent than those that we have come to expect in the UK. Each property is unique and may have staircases, steps or drops and it is therefore important to be safety conscious. If you have any particular needs or concerns please let us know at the time of booking. HOLIDAY QUESTIONNAIRE To assist us in ensuring standards are maintained and to help us improve our service, we should be most grateful if you would take the time to complete our questionnaire online. You will also have the opportunity to leave your feedback on FEEFO (an independent review body), and which may be featured on our website. HOTELS Hotels in Corsica are graded under the French star rating system. Breakfasts are often served (not buffet style) and are mostly continental with croissants, bread, jam and coffee. Half board menus are often set with less choice than a restaurant and tea and coffee-making facilities are not generally available in the rooms. HOTEL ROOM CHECK-IN The standard international practice is to let hotel rooms from midday to midday, however times do vary. Check-in times are usually between 2pm and 3pm, check-out times between 11am and 12 noon on the day of departure. INVENTORY Our self-catering properties include a minimum inventory to include such essentials as a kettle, iron and toaster. All larger electrical equipment e.g. television, washing machine etc are noted in the individual property descriptions. INTERNET ACCESS Internet access has become an increasingly important feature for our guests and as a result, most properties are now equipped with Wi-Fi this facility is indicated in the property guide or on the individual property descriptions. Please note internet coverage and speed of connection may differ from the one you have at home, and may at times be limited or unavailable as a result of issues with the local network, which is out of the control of the owners and ourselves. There is also a large number of cafés and restaurants across the island offering internet access. LANGUAGE Although the official language in Corsica is French, Corsican has always been recognised as an official regional language and is frequently used by the locals. You will also spot that the road signs are in Corsican as well as in French. LINEN In self-catering properties, bed linen, bath and hand towels are provided on a weekly basis, and in most properties guests can expect beds to be made up on arrival. Beach towels are also provided in our Premium villas. For flight-inclusive bookings, beds will be made corresponding to the number of guests on the reservation please advise us before departure of any other requirements. For multiple week stays, clean linen will be delivered each weekend but the beds will not be made up, except in our Premium villas. Cot linen is not provided. LOCAL LIFE When our guests are on holiday the local population will be going about their daily business: rural or village properties may have farming activities, hunting or festivals going on nearby, over which we have no control. In villages and more rural areas there may be wild dogs and cats that wander around, guests are encouraged not to feed them as this will attract them to return to the property. 156 For more information or to book online visit corsica.co.uk Call the Corsican experts on

23 MONEY REQUESTS SMOKING SWIMMING POOLS TELEPHONES WELCOME HAMPERS As part of France, Corsica s currency is the Euro, which has significantly fluctuated against Sterling over the last few years. Credit/debit card payments are widely accepted but you should be aware that small shops outside the main towns might prefer cash. Few banks in Corsica accept Travellers Cheques and even fewer accept Sterling. A holiday to Corsica may cost more than to some other islands in the Mediterranean, however with higher prices come fewer tourists and less development, which means it has retained its charm and unspoilt nature. Once on holiday you will find a reasonable three course menu in most towns for around 25 (approx 22). Supermarkets offer a wide range of goods although you may find those not produced locally are more expensive than in the UK. OCCUPANCY All guests must be named on the booking; please advise us beforehand if you are planning to have additional friends or family joining you a supplement for extra linen and additional cleaning may be required. Any occupant whose name does not appear on the invoice will be charged locally. Maximum occupancy cannot be exceeded as the properties are only insured for a certain number of guests. PRICES AND SURCHARGES Our prices are calculated using the exchange rate of 1 = 1.12 and are also based on the cost of fuel as of 15th August If the value of the Euro or the cost of fuel rise, then unfortunately we may need to introduce a surcharge to cover the increased costs to us. In the event of any other security costs or taxes being levied, there may also be an increase in prices printed in this brochure, please see section 12 of our Terms and Conditions for more details. If you have any requests for your holiday accommodation or flights, please ensure they are mentioned at the time of booking; we will do our utmost but a request cannot be guaranteed. If additional items or services are requested that are not advertised, please be aware that we will not have inspected these facilities. RESORT FACILITIES We try to portray our holidays to represent the majority of the season during early and late season some resort facilities may be closed and in high season even the quietest towns and beaches may become busy. ROOMS Rooms in our individual properties differ and guests should note that no rooms are the same in terms of décor, style, size and position. Master bedrooms are considered superior to other bedrooms, so when choosing a property for a group of friends it s best to agree who will have the master suite before arrival. SECURITY DEPOSIT Some property owners require a security deposit to be paid in Euros on arrival to cover any losses, damages, breakages or extra cleaning which may occur. If the property you have chosen requires a local deposit you will be advised of the amount at the time of booking. For other self-catering properties you may be required to pay a security deposit in the UK, again we will advise at the booking stage. We ask guests to care for their holiday accommodation as if it were their own home and we require all guests to accept our travel insurance (which covers for some material damages) or make similar arrangements. 158 For more information or to book online visit corsica.co.uk We have a no smoking policy in all our accommodation and it is also forbidden to smoke in hired vehicles. Just as in the UK, a smoking ban in all public areas is in place across France. SUSTAINABLE TOURISM Corsicans are proud and passionate people who are keen to protect the environment and traditions of their island. We at Corsican Places share the same view and strive to protect their enchanting culture, beautiful landscapes and varied wildlife. We also have a carbon offset scheme which you can opt into. Please go to corsica.co.uk/carbonoffset-scheme for more information on the projects we support. HOLIDAY EXTRAS Airport hotels If you would like to stay in a hotel close to the airport prior to your departure flight we can book a range of 2 to 5 hotels with car parking, in conjunction with Holiday Extras. Airport lounges Start your holiday in style and avoid the crowds by upgrading to an air-conditioned lounge at the airport. These lounges usually provide complimentary drinks and snacks, newspapers, magazines and television. Airport parking We can offer airport parking with Holiday Extras which provides secure parking, both on and off-site, at our UK airports with 24 hour transfers where appropriate. Prices can increase with demand so please book early to secure the best prices Visit corsica.co.uk/holidayextras We would definitely use Corsican Places again, very easy, organised holiday and loved the island, accommodation and everything it has to offer. Mrs Humphries - Guest Swimming pool details such as size, shape and depth (where known) are given in the facilities section for each property, please refer to each property or call our team if you require further information and we will check with the owner. All pools have a security system in place: either an alarm, fence or cover as required by French law, but children should be supervised at all times. Pools are generally unheated in Corsica and are maintained and cleaned during your stay, although during high winds debris can appear in an otherwise clean pool. Weather permitting, pools are open from the start of May to the beginning of October. Heated pools are only available when listed in the relevant property description. The heating facility will only be available depending on the weather conditions and will not operate above 28 degrees to allow chemicals to work effectively. Mobile phone coverage is very good in Corsica, with the exception of some more remote or mountainous areas. If you intend to use your mobile phone abroad please ensure that it is registered for international use. TELEVISION Corsican television signal broadcasting was recently converted to digital and as a result the quality of reception has been significantly improved. However, unless the property is equipped with a satellite decoder box and is subscribed to a superior service, there will be no English language channels. VILLA MAINTENANCE Staff at some properties live on-site and tend to the grounds and pool. We ask our guests to allow them reasonable access to the property and grounds so these can be kept in good order. TRAVEL INSURANCE We believe that all customers who travel with us should be suitably insured for their own well-being. We propose cover tailormade by t&g, who are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. This policy reflects the specific details of our programme and includes cover against accidental damage to properties. It is also known to our resort staff who will be more able to assist you in liaising with the insurance company in case of emergency. Customers wishing to arrange their own insurance, which should offer cover at least equal to that provided by our own policy, will receive booking details marked with the words Own Insurance Arranged as an undertaking that this has been done. ADULT ADULT FAMILY* CHILD Up to 10 days days days *Family policy is valid for up to two parents or legal guardians, under 65, residing at the same address, who are married or living together as married, with up to 4 children under 18 normally residing and travelling with them. All our self-catering properties are provided with a welcome hamper including basic provisions such as tea, coffee, UHT milk, water, fruit juice, a selection of Corsican produce and a bottle of wine. Premium villas have a superior hamper including sparkling wine, beer, eggs, bread and a selection of fruit. There are usually a few shops open on a Sunday and these will be listed on your travel details or advised by your representatives on your arrival. WILDLIFE Corsica is a very natural and undeveloped island, and in country houses animals, birds and insects may be present around the house and occasionally living in inaccessible areas such as eaves and roof spaces. Mice and other field animals may also find their way into houses. Mosquitoes, ants and other insects are quite common in the warmer climates and we strongly advise guests not to leave any food uncovered, to deter stray rodents and animals. All amounts are maximum limits per person. 50 excess applies to most claims. The policy does not cover any pre-existing health conditions of the people travelling and other people upon whose health the trip may depend unless Healthcheck have been called on and they have confirmed cover in writing. Activities covered include walking, horse riding, mountain biking, swimming, snorkelling, surfing, sailing, water-skiing and go-karting. The policy also provides cover where the claim is directly related to a conventional terrorist act and delays caused by volcanic ash. All correspondence and documents are sent to the party leader who is responsible to us for all payments in respect of the booking. The contract is made on the terms of the information in this brochure, the details set out in the confirmation invoice. We agree that the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction and English Law applies (unless you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in which case you can bring proceedings in your local court under Scottish or Northern Irish law, as applicable). Our confirmation invoice is our acceptance of the booking (as detailed therein), and the contract is made on its issue. We ask you to check the details and any anomaly should be reported to us or your travel agent immediately otherwise the details shown on the confirmation will be presumed to be correct. Certain components of a package are on request and subject to availability and therefore quotations should not be considered binding until the first confirmation invoice is received. All holidays and offers published in this brochure are subject to availability at the time of booking. 2. PAYMENT If you wish to confirm a booking you must pay the deposit of 20% of the cost of your holiday. Your balance will be detailed on your invoice and must be paid in full no later than 8 weeks before your departure, or your booking may be deemed cancelled and your deposits retained. In the event we need to book and pay for your flight at the time of booking, you will be quoted the cost of this before confirming your holiday and asked to pay for this sector in full, along with your deposit. It is at this time you will be advised whether the flight cost is non-refundable. If payment for your holiday is made by credit card a handling fee, currently 1.6% will be levied. Cheques should be made payable to Serenity Holidays Limited. 3. IF YOU WISH TO CANCEL YOUR BOOKING You will need to let us know as soon as possible either by telephone or in writing (or must ensure your travel agent does so on your behalf). Since we incur costs from the time we confirm your booking, the cancellation charges set out below will apply, calculated from the date on which we receive your notice of cancellation. You will then receive a cancellation invoice detailing any charges. NO OF DAYS BEFORE DEPARTURE More than 56 days days 40% days 65% days 90% Less than 15 days 100% CANCELLATIONS CHARGE Loss of deposit The charges above apply to your total holiday price excluding any insurance premiums, amendment charges or charges for goods sold and dispatched. Please note that charges may be higher than those shown where your travel arrangements have been confirmed to you as non-refundable. The conditions of your travel insurance policy may allow a refund claim. Note: If any members of your party cancel, but the others still wish to travel, it may be necessary to re-calculate the cost per person based on the new party size as the accommodation will now be under-occupied. This may result in an increased amount per person payable to secure the original booking. 4. ACCURACY AND INFORMATION We have taken all care to ensure the information shown in this brochure is accurate. Incidental information (e.g. relating to local events or markets etc) is offered in good faith and we therefore ask that should this be important to you, you check the details independently. 5. CHARGES FOR NON-INCLUSIVE HOTEL ITEMS AND DAMAGES You enter into a separate contract with the hotel or residence for these items (e.g. parking, bar bills etc.) and agree to pay locally for any charges for items or services used by your party and not included in your holiday price. The accommodation we arrange for you can only be used by those people named on your invoice. You are not allowed to share the accommodation with anyone else or let anyone else stay there. 6. IF YOU REQUEST A CHANGE TO YOUR BOOKING All amendments to your booking, e.g. name changes, dates of travel or accommodation, will incur a charge, the amount of which will depend on the nature of the change and the time before the date of travel. This is in addition to any carriers alteration or cancellation fees as certain travel arrangements (e.g. the purchase of non-refundable airline tickets) cannot be changed after a booking has been confirmed and any request to do so is likely to incur a 100% cancellation charge. Note: Any changes made within 8 weeks of departure may be treated as cancellations and re-bookings. 7. IF YOU BOOK THROUGH A TRAVEL AGENT We will assume that in dealing with us the agent is acting on your behalf in respect of any changes or cancellation to your booking. When you buy a flight-based holiday, all monies you pay to the travel agent are held by him on behalf and for the benefit of the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust at all times. This is subject to the agent s obligation to pay it to us for so long as we do not fail. If we fail, any money held at that time by the agent, or subsequently accepted from you by him, is and continues to be held on behalf of and for the benefit of the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust without any obligation to pay that money to us. When you buy a holiday not including a flight, all monies you pay to the travel agent are held by him on our behalf at all times. 8. IF WE CHANGE YOUR HOLIDAY Although it is unlikely, we may occasionally have to change your holiday arrangements and we reserve the right to change or cancel your booking. Most changes are minor and we will always endeavour to advise you or your travel agent of any such changes at the earliest possible date. Note: Any amendment or cancellation fees you incur in terms of other arrangements you have made with other providers under separate contracts are not claimable from us. Package Holiday & Flight Only: A change of airline, aircraft type, overseas airport of destination, travel timings by 12 hours or less and accommodation of a similar or higher standard in the same resort or region are classed as minor changes which do not entitle you to cancel or change to another holiday without paying our normal administration charges, and for which no compensation or refund is due. The carrier may occasionally have to change the type of aircraft used on a particular flight without advance warning. In such circumstances where you have booked and paid an additional seat supplement and such seat cannot be provided, then you will receive only a refund of the supplement paid. Occasionally, we have to make major changes to your travel arrangements or accommodation. A major change is a change made before departure, which, on the basis of the information given to us by you at the time of booking we can reasonably expect will have a major effect on your holiday. The following changes are examples of major changes: changing travel times by over 12 hours, your UK departure airport (excluding London airports), your holiday region, a change to a lower standard or type of accommodation or reducing the number of days holiday. If we have to make a major change or cancel your holiday we will tell you as soon as possible. Where possible, we will offer the following options: you can either a) accept the changed arrangements b) purchase another holiday from us at the advertised current selling price or c) cancel your booking upon which we will refund your monies in full and final settlement. If you have booked a Package Holiday, subject to the note below, irrespective of whether you choose a), b) or c) we will pay compensation as follows: NO OF DAYS BEFORE DEPARTURE More than 56 days AMOUNT OF EACH FULL FARE PAYING ADULT Nil days days days 35 Less than 8 days 50 Applicable to Package Holiday, Accommodation or Flight Only bookings: Note: If a change or cancellation occurs because of circumstances beyond our control, for example war, threat of war, riots, civil disturbances, actual or threatened terrorist activity and its consequences, industrial disputes, natural or nuclear disasters, fire, health risks, adverse weather conditions, hurricanes, floods, unavoidable technical problems with transport, closure or congestion of airports or ports, epidemic or pandemic illness and all similar situations we will have no liability to you. No compensation payments, expenses or any other sums, including the cost of securing alternative accommodation will be paid by us. 9. IF YOU HAVE A COMPLAINT In the unlikely event you have cause for complaint during your holiday, please inform the hotel or site management and our local representative. It is unreasonable for you to take little or no action and wait until you return to complain and you must take reasonable steps to minimise the consequences of the problem. If you fail to follow this simple procedure we will have been deprived of the opportunity to investigate and rectify your complaint whilst you were in resort and this may affect your rights under this contract. If a problem cannot be resolved locally please follow this up in writing to our Customer Relations Department at our UK office, with any supporting evidence, within 28 days of your return from holiday. If we are found liable to you on any basis, we limit the amount we have to pay you to a maximum of three times the cost of your accommodation. This limit does not apply to cases involving death or injury. 11. YOUR RESPONSIBILITY You undertake to exercise due and reasonable care in respect of your holiday accommodation and its contents, to leave it in a clean and complete condition, to respect local and on-site regulations and bye-laws, to limit party numbers to those on your confirmation, to remit payments as invoiced on or before the due dates, to indemnify us against all loss or damage arising directly or indirectly from any act, default or omission of your party, and not to exceed the published occupation capacity of the accommodation. Should the price of your holiday go down due to the changes mentioned above, by more than 2% of your holiday cost, then any refund due will be paid to you. However, please note that travel arrangements are not always purchased in local currency and some apparent changes will have no impact on the price of your holiday due to contractual and other protection in place.
