1 Media Release 11 May 2011 Delivering Quality through Leadership in NHSScotland Postgraduate Certificate in Frontline Leadership and Management Graduation The Albert Halls, Stirling NHSScotland staff will graduate today (11 May) at a ceremony in the Albert Halls in Stirling. They are the third cohort to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Frontline Leadership and Management since the programme was first established four years ago. The Frontline Leadership and Management programme is a result of collaboration between NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and education providers, De Montfort University and the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). The postgraduate programme delivers leadership and management skills to frontline staff as a key element of the NHSScotland Leadership Development Framework, Delivering Quality through Leadership. It is open to NHSScotland staff in clinical and non-clinical jobs who are keen to take on a more proactive leadership role within their workplace. The programme enables working professionals to apply their learning directly through a blended-learning format: short study days with extensive use of online learning. Leadership and how it applies to management is developed through a common core curriculum. Problem solving activities are used to bring sector specific and real world issues into focus. Working individually and in groups, students apply their personal and professional experience to the understanding and practice of a more improvement oriented approach to leadership. Option modules provide students with the opportunity to explore the leadership challenge in a specific

2 context and to undertake a project that will deepen their understanding in an area of personal need and interest.
