2 5-DAY CHRISTMAS IN BRUGES 499 December 23-27, 2011 Pictures: Toerisme Brugge Tree-lined canals, traditional market squares crammed with festive delights gables houses and cobbled streets await in the historic Belgian city of Bruges, a UNESCO World Heritage site (not to mention the chocolate and beer for which this region is renowned). December 23: A morning departure to Dover provides plenty of time for our ferry crossing to Calais and journey to Belgium to arrive in plenty of time to settle into our hotel and explore beautiful Bruges. December 24: Christmas Eve is a free day to explore the sights of Bruges, visit Market Square and the historic guildhalls, churches and market buildings. There is also an opportunity to attend Midnight Mass at the Holy Lady Church. December 25: After a leisurely breakfast, relax ahead of the traditional Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. There may even be a visit from a gentleman in a red suit with something special for everyone. Afternoon and evening at leisure. December 26: Time to grasp your golden ticket and explore Willy Wonka s Chocolate Factory... well, maybe not, but after breakfast we make our way to the Choco-Storey Museum for a guided tour to learn the art of chocolate making. After lunch if you can face it after sampling the chocolate it is off to the StraffeHendricke Brewery for a guided tour and more tasting... a great way to end this Christmas break. December 21: A morning departure to Dover for our ferry crossing to Calais. We continue through France before breaking the journey at our overnight hotel. December 22: After a leisurely breakfast we head into Austria and arrive at our hotel home for the next five nights. December 23: There is plenty to see and do in today s destination, the beautiful, historic city of Salzburg birthplace of Mozart and the setting for the classic musical The Sound of Music. The old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and also plays host to a Christmas market which will help you get immersed in the festive mood. December 24: After the sights of Salzburg, we head into the mountains and the picturesque village of Hallstatt. Explore the area and enjoy a cruise on Lake Hallstatt (Hallstattersee). December 25: After a leisurely breakfast, relax ahead of an Austrian feast for Christmas lunch. There may even be a visit from a gentleman in a red suit with something special for everyone. Afternoon and evening at leisure. December 26: The morning is free for you to enjoy as you like before we head off after lunch for a tour of the Austrian Lake District, returning to our hotel for dinner. December 27: We bid farewell to our hosts and make our way back to France and our overnight hotel. December 22: A morning departure to Dover for our ferry crossing to Calais. We continue through France before breaking the journey at our overnight hotel. December 23: After breakfast we head into Spain and arrive at our resort home for the next five nights. December 24: Christmas on the beach anyone? For Christmas Eve we visit seaside resorts including Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar with a special lobster lunch to make the most of our surroundings. December 25: After a leisurely breakfast, relax ahead of the traditional Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. Set in spectacular mountain scenery, the monastery is a sight of religious importance and home to the statue of the Virgin of Montserrat (The Black Virgin) Catalonia s favourite saint. The Basilica also houses a museum which includes work by El Greco, Dali and Picasso. December 28: We bid farewell to our hosts and make our way back to France and our overnight hotel.
