1 CRAWLEY AND DISTRICT MODEL AIRCRAFT CLUB TURBULATOR July CADMAC was founded in 1960, and is affiliated to the British Model Flying Association, which is the governing body for all aspects of model flying in Great Britain. The Turbulator newsletter has been produced since 1965, relying on regular reports and contributions from Club members. The Club website is at The Annual BBQ will take place at Dovers Green on 4 th July. Food and drinks will be available free to Club Members from 12:00 until it runs out! Flying times as usual, slots may be organized. Surrey RC Club has been invited so membership cards will be scrutinized before food is served. Please advise gwhite1506@aol.com of numbers ASAP if you intend coming. If the event is cancelled due to weather, the back-up date will be 11 th July.

2 Dovers Green. Most of you will recognize Fred Reed but not many will know Caspar Pierce, an 11 year old, who turned up with his father Clive with a request to fly. After a couple of warm up flights it was decided that Caspar was good enough to take the club proficiency flying test which he passed with ease. We expect to see more flying from this youngster in the near future. Freeflight. The weatherman certainly was in a good mood for the latest round of competition at Ashdown Forest on 7 th June. Flying from the Bushy Willows car park side of the forest in a light northerly breeze it was not too difficult to get maximum flight times (2mins 30 secs) with Alex Cameron beating Gary Oulds in the fly-off. Alex s glider did 9mins 1sec in his final flight which must place him quite high in the National event, of which this competition is part of. A late change of wind direction meant a hasty retreat to the other end of the valley, the best flight just landing inside the flyable area of the forest.

Both Gary s and Geoff s gliders came from reseller" Kevin Dart and are flying well. Alex reported that he and Gary usually take some pictures at Ashdown, but we were too busy on the day, He said that he did not stop for a minute. Flying for the first time at Ashdown was Ian Lisseter with a KeilKraft Senator and the Taylor Brothers who were flying for East Grinstead. In the RAFA Shield competition Crawley were able to catch up a bit and now trail behind EG by 131 points to 119. Stop press! In the Nationals Alex got first place and Gary was fourth. A good effort! Holy Trinity. Although the barometer has been high for much of the time, the winds have not been much help for flying at HT. The Dart contest suffered with only three entries this year, mainly due to the weather. The results were:- 1st Alex Cameron total = 108 seconds 2nd Ken Taylor total = 92 seconds 3rd Pete Cameron total = 87 seconds Many thanks to CD Ken Taylor for the results. RC flying has been a bit limited, again the wind and cold being the limiting factor. Some (sort of) bungee gliding has been seen, using a High Start launch and towards the end of June some powered gliders were up. Control line, in the shape of Dick Stepney, was active most nights with his electric powered stunter. Although relatively quiet, we could hear its noise output which apparently comes from the propeller! Helicopter. There is always some heli flying going on and Robin was spotted test flying a very large model one evening. Usually Heli flying is at the far end of the top field, but sometimes from the usual RC take-off area. On one Sunday morning a heli pilot opened the throttle and shot straight up into the path of a foam model flying overhead, doing it some damage. It is important when launching any model to check if the path is clear. Mind the lines! The Grattons flying area has been busy these last few weeks. With the grass mowing now in the hands of the members, it makes take-offs and landings much safer and more fun. Several new faces have appeared and activity is increasing. He sends them but sometimes I cannot download them, something about MP4 is a problem for my old (freebe) laptop!
