1 25 th Anniversary Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust 2016 Calendar
2 Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust - Celebrating 25 Years of Conservation Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust has worked with local farmers and landowners to protect over 16,000 acres of working farmland, forests and wild lands; while raising awareness and educating communities about the region. Who We Are Over two decades ago, a small group of Tug Hill residents created an organization to help landowners protect private land through private action, while also helping to educate residents and visitors of the value and wonder of the region s working and wild lands. Today, Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust is a Nationally Accredited land trust that has protected thousands of acres and continues to engage and improve the lives of hundreds of community members each year. What We Do Conserving open land helps to retain the character and natural resource base of Tug Hill communities. It is important to the local economy and way of life Tug Hill folks cherish. Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust protects land through Conservation Planning, Land Registry, Conservation Partnership Programs and Conservation Easements. Currently, Tug Hill Tomorrow has over 16,000 acres protected using these tools. It is also important the next generation knows and cares about the woodlands, meadows and farms from firsthand experience. Community programs, educational and free outdoor field trips and treks of all kinds are held throughout the region, connecting kids and their families to the land while increasing awareness and appreciation of the Tug Hill region s natural beauty and special places. About Our Region Tug Hill lies between Lake Ontario and the Adirondacks, Oneida Lake and the Black River. With a region larger than some states, its approximately 2,100 square miles comprise one of the most rural sections of the Northeast. The region s total population is just over 100,000, with most of that concentrated in villages around its edges. The densely forested core of about 800 square miles is among New York s most remote areas, with a population of just a few thousand and few public roads. Most notably, Tug Hill s elevation and position with respect to Lake Ontario results in an average annual snowfall in excess of 200 inches - the heaviest snowfall east of the Rockies.
