2 Tour Itinerary DEPARTING: TUESDAY, SEPT. 19 I CHICAGO/DUBLIN Today we depart Chicago s O Hare International Airport on the Aer Lingus non-stop trans-atlantic flight to Dublin, Ireland. WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 20 D DUBLIN/Kilkenny Castle/KILKENNY After landing at Dublin Airport your Driver/Guide will welcome you to Ireland. Our day begins with a traditional Irish breakfast at The Man O War Pub, where many of us will have our first Irish pint. Then we ll begin our journey to Kilkenny, one of Ireland s loveliest inland cities, where we ll embark on a walking tour taking in the medieval heritage along narrow alleyways and historic streets. We ll visit Kilkenny Castle, standing dramatically on a strategic height that dominates the city. Kilkenny is famous for its charming pubs, Kytlers Inn, The Marble City Bar, Lanigan s and Biddy Early s just to mention a few and it s Shay s intention to sink a pint in most of them. Tonight we stay in the beautiful River Court Hotel, directly across from the Castle. THURSDAY, SEPT. 21 KILKENNY/Cashel/Blarney/KILLARNEY This morning we travel to County Tipperary to visit the Rock of Cashel. A symbol of royal and priestly power for more than a millennium, the Rock enabled Cashel s inhabitants to scour the surrounding plains for potential invaders. Leaving Cashel we ll travel to Blarney for a visit to fabled Blarney Castle. Here you ll have an opportunity to climb the steps of the fortress and kiss the world famous Blarney Stone to gain the gift of eloquence, wit and wisdom. Just a stone s throw away we ll also visit the Blarney Woolen Mills, the largest emporium of Irish crafts in the country where we can browse the finely woven Irish woolen products or join Shay at one of its welcoming pubs. We ll then travel on to Killarney in the scenic southwest, it is here where we ll find some of the most picturesque views in all of Ireland. After dinner at our hotel, The Malton, it s off to visit more iconic pubs; The Laurel s and for some great Irish music, The Danny Mann. FRIDAY, SEPT. 22 B KILLARNEY/Dingle Peninsula Today we explore the Dingle Peninsula, the westernmost part of Ireland that juts out into the Atlantic and contains some of the most ancient and traditional aspects of Irish culture. And don t forget to try the chowder that County Kerry is famous for. Following a visit to the thriving fishing port of Dingle we ll make our way around the Slea Head promontory where we ll see the prehistoric beehive huts that were used as shelter for monks in the early Christian period, and for a spectacular view of the Blasket Islands. From here we ll travel in the shadow of the towering Mount Brandon as we make our way through the more remote areas of the peninsula. Our last visit of the day will take us to the nearby Gallarus Oratory, shaped like an upturned boat and overlooking Smerwick Harbor, the tiny drystone church is a relic of early Irish Christianity. This evening we re free to enjoy dinner at one of the many pubs in Killarney, as we once again stay at The Malton. SATURDAY, SEPT. 23 KILLARNEY/Cliffs of Moher/The Burren/ Galway/WESTPORT This morning we cross the River Shannon by ferry as we make our way to the Cliffs of Moher to enjoy spectacular views. Even when shrouded in mist or buffeted by gales, the Cliffs of Moher are a breathtaking sight as they rise to a height of 650 feet from out of the Atlantic. We ll travel through the Burren, a vast limestone plateau occupying an area of over one hundred square miles in northwest County Clare, as we round Galway Bay to visit the city of Galway, stopping to have a drink at The Quays, one of Shay s favorite pubs in all of Ireland. Afterward, we ll continue our journey to Westport where we ll have dinner and stay overnight at the Hotel Westport. I IN FLIGHT MEALS B BREAKFAST D DINNER

3 SUNDAY, SEPT. 24 B WESTPORT/Connemara/Cong, The Quiet Man Tour Today we explore the rugged yet serene Connemara region. This rocky land of broad-backed mountains and pearl-like lakes is the largest Irish-speaking section of the country and the old traditional ways of life are as much a part of this regions attraction as is the scenery. We ll head along the coast to Louisburgh, with Croagh Patrick on our left. One of the most scenic routes in County Mayo is the road from the lovely village of Louisburgh to the stunningly beautiful lake Doolough. Known as the Famine Walk, the tragic history associated with this absolutely lovely area, the great famine of 1849, is commemorated by a stone cross-shaped memorial. We ll continue our journey to picturesque Kylemore Abbey, a castellated neo-gothic mansion occupied by an Irish Benedictine community of nuns, where we ll have an opportunity to walk the abbey grounds. Afterward we ll travel to Cong for The Quiet Man Tour, a walking tour with a local guide to see locations from the movie, filmed in the village in Then we re headed back to Hotel Westport where the evening is free to explore the many pubs and restaurants in the village. MONDAY, SEPT. 25 B WESTPORT/Westport House After breakfast we visit Westport house, an 18th century mansion, where we ll see the stunning rooms and priceless furnishings, along with superb views of Clew Bay, home to 365 islands, one for every day of the year! Next we are off on a walking tour of Westport, built in the Georgian style by James Wyatt in We will see the most picturesque parts of the village including the promenade and the stone bridges along the river Carrow Beg. The afternoon is at leisure; this is an ideal day for fishing, golfing or horseback riding. If you are interested, please let us know. Then we can look forward to another night of wonderful Irish music at Matt Molloy s Pub. Overnight is Hotel Westport. TUESDAY, SEPT. 26 WESTPORT/Kilbeggan Distillery/ Guinness Storehouse/DUBLIN We leave the west behind and travel into the heart of Ireland to Kilbeggan Distillery, established in 1757; while the distillery is not the oldest of its kind, it is the oldest licensed distillery in the world. We see how the whiskey is distilled using modern equipment in the old buildings and enjoy a sample of the finished product. We continue across the pastures of Ireland to the capital city of Dublin. On arrival our local guide will show us the prominent historic buildings of the city, which has been molded through the centuries with many architectural styles, reflecting the economic, political and artistic influences. We ll visit the Guinness Storehouse to see exhibits on how this world famous stout was first created and why it is so popular today. Finish your visit in the roof-top bar, Gravity, overlooking the city center where you can sample a draft Guinness and enjoy the view of the city. Then we travel to the south side of Dublin to Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel, for dinner and overnight. WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 27 DUBLIN/Powerscourt Estates If you fancy a morning walk, join Shay for a ramble up Killiney Hill, you will be rewarded with one of the most stunning views in all of Ireland. This morning we ll enjoy a scenic drive along the coast where we ll see Dalkey and the beautiful Vico Road, home to Enya, Bono, and other Irish notables, as we make our way to Bray in County Wicklow. Our next stop is Powerscourt House and Gardens, a magnificent estate boasting 47 acres of gardens, to enjoy one of the mapped walks and time for a visit to the Powerscourt shops. After our tour we drive to Glencullen to discover Johnnie Fox s Pub, one of Ireland s oldest and most famous traditional Irish Pubs, where we ll end our vacation in style with an evening farewell dinner with live Irish music. THURSDAY, SEPT. 28 BI DUBLIN/CHICAGO All too soon, our vacation in Ireland has come to the end. We transfer to Dublin Airport in plenty of time to check in for our non-stop Aer Lingus flight to Chicago. WELCOME HOME!

This is a package tour in which group airfares and land tour costs have been combined in the most advantageous way. Should you wish to take the land tour only or deviate from the package tour by changing your departure and/or return dates of travel, this will eliminate the advantages of the package tour price. There will be a fee of $100 per person for altering the airline itinerary, plus any additional charges assessed by the airlines. TRIP CANCELLATION, BAGGAGE AND MEDICAL INSURANCE: You have been given the option of purchasing Travel Protection at the time you sign-up for the tour.
