Tree of Knowledge is well known for their fun and interactive delivery. Alice made it her mission to challenge the way people think about the boundaries they create for themselves. A psychologist, currently studying a masters in Applied Positive Psychology, Alice promotes the importance of engagement and recognition of our strengths to allow us all to flourish in our own way am 11.00am Refreshments Tea/Coffee & Pastries

3 Saturday 11th March (continued) 11.00am pm Workshops Team Building Workshop Alice Beveridge, Tree of Knowledge People can be wonderful, people can be problematic. Every challenge we face can be made better or worse depending on the mind set and relationships of the people involved. This fun and interactive approach to team building allows individuals to recognise their own strengths and those of the people around them, develop more positive relationships and understanding of each other and ultimately create stronger more resilient teams. Invest in your future getting young people in to work John McMorrow, Director, Easthall Park Co-operative Olwyn Gaffney, Training and Development Manager, SHARE The age profile of staff in housing associations is such that many are reaching a time when they are ready to retire. This means there is a need to bring in and invest in younger staff to maintain the excellent levels of service that is provided from both staff members and from Committee/Board members. So, what are organisations doing to mitigate this risk to the sector. Knowing your organisation Paul McNeill, Director, HRC Limited Barry Johnstone, Area Director, Bellsmyre & Cordale Housing Association The work shop will reflect on what is involved managing significant and effective organisational change. We will consider how Associations can adapt to external challenge, as we review the leadership and business management skills vital to achieving good performance and delivering enduring success. It will involve comparing and contrasting the real life experience of 2 housing associations. One association planned for change consulting with SHR, updating business plans and stock condition information, reviewing loan documents, staff structure etc. Association B had change forced upon due to SHR involvement because of poor governance. This session will demonstrate that without proper planning, control and governance local communities lose control and money! Getting into development what you need to know Beth Reilly, Head of Property Services Thenue Housing Association Kirsten McGinn, Senior Project Manager, River Clyde Homes For a few years it was only larger housing organisations who were developing more houses, however, times are changing and more and more organisations are looking at going down this road again. The focus of the workshop will be about the role of the Committee/Board and what key decisions they will be involved and will include examples of best practice in development.

4 Saturday 11th March (continued) 11.00am pm Workshops Continued Making tenancies successful Helen Barton, Independent Housing Consultant, Highland Community Resources Alan Glasgow, Director, Dunedin Canmore Sustaining tenancies making them successful is critical for the housing sector. Failed tenancies come at a huge cost to the individual and association/co-operative. With all the financial pressure on tenants, incomes being squeezed and benefits being cut, what more can we do to help tenants remain in their home and have a successful tenancy? This workshop will look at the issues, what s currently being done across Scotland and look at what else is possible. Preventing Fraud Philip Morrice, C.I.A. F.C.C.A. Managing Partner at Alexander Sloan The Scottish media reported that incidents of fraud across Scotland rose to the value of over 18m in A recent survey of fraud targeted at charities and not-for-profits in the UK during the first 6 months of 2016 was to the value of over 6m. This workshop will consider common forms of fraud, the tactics used by the fraudster including cyber-crime with real-life examples. Just what you need on the final day of a busy conference. Regular practice increases suppleness, strength and stamina, improves posture and concentration and quietens the mind to promote well-being. Sarah has been practicing the lynegar method of yoga for 7 years and classes are adapted for all abilities am am Workshops Mens Health - Football Fans in Training George Watson head of community programme at Queens Park Football Club Research conducted by top Scottish Universities suggests that men s health benefits most when they combine several different health initiatives. This taster session provides a snapshot of the programme and includes some of the key elements of FFIT with fun and participation being involved in the presentation. Managing Conflict Alan Forsythe, Training & Development Manager, SHARE What do you do when you see conflict coming your way? Run and hide, or stand your ground saying bring it on! Some take the my way or the highway approach, while others look for a compromise, or a way to avoid having to deal with the situation at all. This workshop will introduce you to a way of understanding your reactions, the choices you have when faced with conflict, disagreement and challenging situations and how to achieve win-win outcomes for everyone involved.

In addition some associations talk about the difficulty retaining new members after a number of months because it can all be a bit daunting. And then there s the whole issue of keeping Committee/ Board members up to date and on top of the business. This session will look at the issues around recruiting, retaining and developing Committee/Board members am 11.45am Refreshments Refreshments and networking 11.45am 12.45pm Final Plenary The importance of community Pauline Smith, Chief Executive, Connect Community Trust and Board Member of the Development Trust Association Scotland Martin Wilkie-McFarlane, Director, Wellhouse Housing Association Fiona Garven, Director, Scottish Community Development Centre This workshop will look at the importance and role of communities. How can communities achieve greater control and influence over their lives, neighbourhoods, services? Asking and understanding what communities want and involving them in decision-making, which meet their needs and ambitions, are crucial.
