4 Situation The village of Mamhead is little more than a hamlet with the ancient church of St Thomas the Apostle being situated in the park of Mamhead House within walking distance of Brick House. The immediately surrounding countryside is lightly populated with farms, the nearest villages being Star Cross, where there is a good community including a primary school, pubs, and sailing club and Kenton where there is another primary school and the popular Powderham Castle with its many events and activities. From Brick House there is easy walking and out riding onto the Haldon Hills which offer vast expanses of mainly forestry commission woodland which is accessible by foot or horseback. The house is a 10 minute drive to the A38 which links to the M5 giving easy access to London, The Midlands and The North. There is a fast rail link to London Paddington taking just over 2 hours. Flybe have a daily flight to London City Airport where you can be back in the city for 7:30 in the morning. The Airport is just 15 miles away, off the M5 motorway. A 10 minute drive from the property up onto the A380 to the top of Telegraph Hill gives fast access to Exeter with its wider range of employment and commercial opportunities. 6 Description of property Brick House stands in wonderful open countryside surrounded by rich farmland between the eastern slopes of Haldon Hill and the River Exe estuary. This unspoilt rural landscape was described in the late 18th by the Rev John Sweete in his Travels in Georgian Devon. Little seems to have changed in the last 2 centuries and Brick House still enjoys a wonderful position in the countryside. An additional 10 acres alongside the driveway could be purchased in the future and the vendors are willing to offer first refusal when they do decide to sell. The land is currently occupied by ponies. The unique brick construction and classical design of Brick House, Listed Grade II*, is unusual for Devon and is thought to have been built in the 18th Century by a local landowner. Although its original form is not clear, it became a farm house and most recently the delightful country house it is today. The accommodation inside the house is conveniently arranged with well proportioned rooms on each floor with a central stair case serving all of the floors. Follow the road downhill, passing an entrance to Black Forest wood on the right, uphill, and as you come down next hill at sharp bend, you will see horse stables on right and a gate, turn in to right of stables and along track and up to right to house.
