1 Social Skills School Scenarios Aim of activity: To get pupils to think about appropriate responses to situations that may arise at school. Design: The small scenario cards are colour coded to match the appropriate square on the spinner board. You should also make up some scenario cards that reflect incidents that have happened to the pupils included in the group Instructions: The first pupil spins the spinner and takes the corresponding card. The scenario is read out and the pupil is asked what he would do in that situation. It might be helpful to write this answer down on a whiteboard. The group then discuss whether this would be a good idea or not and why. You can role play various alternatives. Before moving to the next card the group should agree on the best action to take in the given situation.

4 You are in a queue to get on the school bus. All the other pupils are pushing and shoving in the queue You get on the school bus last. There is only one seat left and you do not want to sit there The pupils start singing on the bus. The song is one you sang in a talent show. You are at a museum and the teacher says you must go round the museum in a group You have no-one to go with The teacher says you that you are going on a school trip You cannot hear what else the teacher says The school bus is an hour late Your mum is waiting

6 It is lunchtime and you want to go on the computer It is not your turn on the rota You are inside and the others are watching a Garfield video You want to watch something else It is lunchtime and you have come to the inclusion room You realise that you have not got your school bag It is lunchtime and you go to the canteen to buy some food You realise that you have no money You go into an area of school and there are two boys there who are not allowed in They are stealing all the pens You have bought your mobile phone to school You have lost it somewhere in school
