It s a great opportunity to have a malt, some fries, and hang out with fellow club members - and of course, talk cars.

Route 66 Car Club General Meeting Minutes October 10th, ) Membership--78 members (two new ones since our Car Show) 2) Silent Auction--All items sold at the meeting that were left from the Silent Auction at the Car Show. 3) $19,000 to donate--8 charities were voted on to donate $2500 each. Family Food Center, Flagstaff Shelter Services, No. Hospice, No. Az Food Bank, Poor Med Clinic, St Mary s Food Bank, Summitt Fire Dept. and Sunshine Rescue Mission. 4) ROTC-- $500 was voted on to give them. 5) The Humane Society was not able to come to pick up their check from the 50/50 for $1001 6) Ladies luncheon to be Tues Oct 16 at the Wildflower on Butler Ave. 7) There will be no Ladies Luncheon in Nov due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Dec Ladies Luncheon will be Friday Dec 14th at Little America. 5 Birthdays will be celebrated---pam Ebersole, Alana Velez (Nov Birthday s) --Jackie Clark, Sue O and Jan s (Dec Birthdays) Because there are so many Birthday s to celebrate please do not bring cards. Instead, we will have a $10 gift exchange. Little America is beautiful around Christmas Ttme so please try to come if you can and we can all celebrate the Holiday s together. Alana will bring flyers to the Christmas Party with a reminder. 8) The Christmas Party will be held on Sunday Dec 2nd at Coco s 5:00 9) A sheet was passed around for signing up for the 3 events that are coming up--horseman s Lodge Nov 10th, Christmas Party at Coco s Dec 2nd and No. Lights Parade Dec 8th. 10) Elections for next Month were discussed. Mark asked if anyone would like to run for various positions to please let him know. Possible 3-5 on a committee for Cruise s and Steve and John to do the web and newsletter. 11) Sean Evans spoke about Williams City Council giving an O.K. for a M. Shop in Williams 12) Ted Stringer brought up that Mike and Marva Hernandez will be moving into town from Mountainaire and any help would be appreciated (This was brought to our attention from Ted not Mike Hernandez) Please call Ted if you can help. 13) Was brought up that NAU would like convertibles for Oct 20th for the parade for their dignataries. We took our 1941 Cadillac on an 1100-mile road trip around Oregon, starting in Portland and passing through Hood River, Bend, Klamath Falls, Grants Pass, then over to and along the coast and up to McMinnville and Portland. On the way we visited the Columbia River Gorge, Mt. Hood, Crater Lake, the Rogue River, the redwoods, wine country, and, oh yes, some great automobile and aircraft museums and collections. We were accompanied by 45 other classic cars, ranging in age from 1928 to 1947 Bear Another line-up of cars in wine country at Carlton, OR. These show the variety of cars on the trip: a 1935 Packard Limousine, a 1946 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet, a 1947 Cadillac 62 Convertible Coupe, and a 1933 Rolls Royce Phantom II Convertible Sedan

Ron Tonkin is a big car dealer in Portland and the northwest. He sells a number of brands, but collects mostly exotics, supercars and rare variants. Some of these cars had less than 100 miles on the odometer. This is about 1/3 of the collection. Our final dinner was held in the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, OR a must-see if you re ever in that part of the country. Howard Hughes giant transport plane, commonly referred to as the Spruce Goose, which only flew once for a mile, dominates the museum. That s a full-size F-86 under the wing!

6 This is a private collection outside Portland. He has about 20 cars, mostly from the 20 s to 40 s, and leaning toward Fords. He does his own restoration. The Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum is located in Hood River, OR. There are 3 large hangers full of classic cars of all kinds from the 20 s through the 50 s, with airplanes from the same period. This is a portion of the main car collection. This was a fly-in weekend. All the planes here actually flew in to the Museum that week. There were about 2 dozen aircraft, none later than the 50 s, that did the same. Several vintage planes left while we were there. We dipped into California to see the redwoods at Jedediah Smith State Park. That s my Cadillac on the left

7 Mount Hood was always in view the first few days, and we had lunch at Timberline Lodge, halfway up the mountain, on the third day quite a climb for these old cars. Cottage Place chef Frank Branham trained there, and the hotel was used for the exterior scenes in The Shining. This 1931 Peerless came from Ontario, Canada, and ran the whole trip with no problems. Oregon has non-ethanol gas available, usually one or two pumps in each town of moderate size. They were obviously popular with these drivers, since the usual 10% ethanol tends to cause vapor lock in older cars, among other problems. I m filling my Cadillac in the front of the line, with a 1932 Cadillac V-16 Phaeton and a 1930 Packard Touring behind me.
