1 2017 Annual Meeting Report On behalf of the Geauga Growth Partnership (GGP) Board of Directors, I am pleased to present this Annual Report, which reflects the accomplishments of GGP Board and staff for the year 2016, and how member needs are being addressed. Growth is central to the work of GGP - growth of our members, growth of services, and reaching toward the ongoing goal of Leading Business Growth in Geauga County. In 2016, we shared in celebrating the growth of some Geauga County companies, such as Bonitas International and Engineered Endeavors, who both chose to expand and relocate their businesses, while staying within Geauga County. During 2016, we experienced the expansion of educational programs to meet the needs of more schools and more businesses who found value in participating in GGP offerings. GGP s Youth Workforce Development Programs expanded by 58% in 2016 as additional schools signed on for Career Awareness and Career Readiness trainings. In 2016, GGP addressed employer needs for staff training by offering workshops utilizing the services of professional trainers. The collaboration between GGP and KSU at Geauga to co-sponsor the ever-popular GEL Breakfasts has yielded high caliber programs and strong marketing outcomes. GGP s participation in the Geauga County Income Collaborative has helped launch Bridges@Work and Bridges2Work, two programs that help grow and retain Geauga s workforce. The GGP board and staff continue to expand ways to build bridges and solve problems that help remove barriers to growth for Geauga businesses. Don t hesitate to ask what GGP can do for your business. We are here for one purpose to help your business grow. We are grateful to all members, partners, collaborators, sponsors and staff for your support. 7 Membership Value Added As GGP is now in its 7th year of operation, the work of the board committees, task forces and staff continues toward building lasting value for members and fulfilling the mission of Geauga Growth Partnership. Following are highlights. GGP continues to strengthen Geauga s Workforce Attraction & Recruitment by making connections and building a network between businesses and their future workforce through GGP s Youth Workforce Development programs. Additionally, as partner in the Geauga Income Collaborative (GIC), GGP has assisted in developing Bridges@Work, which provides resources in the workplace to help employees resolve personal issues. The Bridges2Work program is connecting under-resourced individuals to educational opportunities, as well as connecting them to local employers who are in need of trained employees. We are commited to Business Development and helping businesses grow their bottom line by offering the services of Business Consultant Dave Kraninger, who assisted nine businesses in Also, GGP established affinity agreements with companies like MetALLsource and Premier Power, which offer buying power and a competitive advantage for your company. In 2016, GGP addressed the growing need for affordable healthcare for businesses by developing a GGP Healthcare Product Offering by forming a partnership with Barrett Benefits Group, Aetna, Asset Health and University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center. Special programs, such as Rehab, Recover, ReEntry, have addressed workplace health issues. As Engineered Endeavors (EEI) has grown its operations over the past few years it became clear we needed a larger footprint for the business. GGP and Tracy Jemison in particular have been with us every step of the way. They have been trusted partners in the site selection and due diligence processes required in a real estate transaction. As a result our company was able to find our new home in Geauga County. GGP is truly a gem for the community! Mr. Gerry Truax, Owner, Engineered Endeavors The growth and expansion of companies like Engineered Endeavors and Bonitas International are great examples of Economic Development & Business Attraction in Geauga, and of the strength of GGP s network with site developers, commercial real estate agents and lenders. These relationships, along with the continuing network of collaborations through Team NEO, Geauga County s Economic Development Office, I have genuinely enjoyed every single GGP event we have attended many times later in a career one dreads workshops, as there is a certain amount of been there, heard that. Not in this case great and innovative information and value in every single event. I listen carefully and have found career altering ideas and relationships strengthened as a function of our membership. Wish we had found you sooner. Community Improvement Corporation (CIC), and other county and municipality officials all contribute to Geauga s economic development. GGP s Workforce Training & Development and Business Education Programs continue to expand, as we seek to provide opportunities that are relevant to members. In 2016, GGP hosted 85 opportunities for workforce training, continuing education, business and networking events, youth training and more, for which 4,237 participants attended. This represents a 28% attendance increase overall, which demonstrates that an important need is being met. Entrepreneur Attraction & Growth - GGP s Entrepreneur Success Breakfasts continue to be an Ms. Deanna Brant, former COO, inspiration to others. In 2016, more than 300 attendees were treated to the collective wisdom from Ravenwood Health founders of Fairmount Santrol, Burton Station Fixture, Caritas Financial, d Marie, and yes, three teenage entrepreneurs. In 2017, GGP hosted their first Entrepreneur Focus Group. This group will continue to meet in roundtable discussions, and through collaboration we hope to identify and help address challenges facing small business owners. As GGP continues into 2017, initiatives will be added to meet business needs and address recommendations made through the Annual Survey. Your input is important, as we strive to lead business growth in Geauga. The Board of Directors would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the following individuals and organizations who have contributed to the mission of GGP through sponsorships and cash donations in We would also like to thank the many others (too numerous to mention here) who have given gifts in-kind, time and talent to support the work of Geauga Growth Partnership. Thank you to all.
