6 Get to know new News and Sports Director Josh Bowman By Josh Bowman I d like to introduce myself as the new News and Sports Director at 95.3 WLKR and K96. I m Josh Bowman, 36 yearsold, and am happily married for two and a half years now to my beautiful wife Erica. I was born in Shelby, Ohio, grew up in the Plymouth-Shiloh area where I graduated from Plymouth High School in Go Big Red! I also attended Pioneer Career and Technology Center in Shelby (Business Computer Technology). I ve been living in Mansfield for the last few years, but as you read this, we re getting ready to move to Sandusky. Can t wait!!! It s so beautiful up on the lake. My wife is from the Toledo area and loves the lake as well. We also have a cute little 14- pound Havanese dog named Sloopie. No kids yet. God is at the center of our universe, and we also love our sports and country music. We re very passionate about all three. I am a graduated of North Central State College in Mansfield/Shelby, where I received an Associates Degree in Broadcast Journalism and a certificate in Sales and Marketing. I also attended the Ohio Center for Broadcasting in Columbus, where I received a broadcasting certificate in radio and TV, and also took home the Class MVP award. Ever since graduating from college, I ve been working in radio. I interned with I Heart Radio (Clear Channel) in Mansfield while still in college, then began working there shortly after. In fact for the last eight years before coming to WLKR, I was a news and sports reporter and announcer for WMAN AM 1400/98.3 FM in Mansfield. You name it, I did it there. I was a sports play by play announcer, studio host for high school sports, news reporter, studio engineer, host of a sports talk show, photographer, and even a website editor and social media guru. I had a blast there. I had wonderful co-workers and bosses, and learned so much. But after eight-plus years there, I knew it was time to move on. I can t tell you how excited I am to be a part of the team at WLKR & K96! I ve already enjoyed my first couple of months here, and can t wait for what the future holds. The people in this area are wonderful and the high school sports are top-notch. As News and Sports Director, I promise to always give you the facts and the absolute truth when it comes to news, and to always put my heart, soul, and passion into my high school sports announcing. You ll quickly learn that sports are my passion. I pretty See BOWMAN, page 5 4 Fall 2016 Voice of the Firelands Magazine

9 2016 Ohio State football preview J.T. Barrett Photo Provided By Rob Polinsky Urban Meyer will begin his fifth season as the head coach at Ohio State Labor Day weekend Saturday September 3rd vs. Bowling Green at 12pm at Ohio Stadium in Columbus. Should be an interesting day for Coach Meyer who was previously the head coach at Bowling Green back in 2001 and Meyer is 50-4 at OSU including 12-1 overall and 7-1 last season in conference play. After the opening game vs. BG the Bucks host Tulsa before heading to Norman Oklahoma to take on Bob Stoop s Oklahoma Sooners. That should be a great matchup between two of college football s all time perennial powers. After a bye week the Bucks open conference play See OSU, page 8 Fall 2016 Voice of the Firelands Magazine 7

10 OSU From page 7 at home vs. Rutgers on October 1st. OSU returns thirty nine letter winners from 15 but just six starters, three on each side of the ball. The returning offensive starters include captains, quarterback J.T. Barrett and center Pat Elflein. Along with guard Billy Price. The defensive starters that return are Captain Raekwon McMillan at linebacker, corner back Gareon Conley and Defensive End Tyquan Lewis. Losing sixteen of twenty two starters OSU has a lot of rebuilding to do and will have plenty of young men vying for playing time including Running Back and Wide Receiver. With 5th year senior Bri onte Dunn recently being kicked off the team, that means OSU will have no running backs with any game experience on the roster. Highly recruited redshirt freshman Mike Webber along with true freshman Antonio Williams should both see the field. At Wide Receiver/ H-Back junior Curtis Samuel and senior Dontre Wilson return. There are several others looking to break into the lineup including Terry McLaurin, Parris Campbell, James Clark and Johnny Dixon among others. Lorain s Rashod Berry is being considered at Tight End. The Offensive Lineman needs to find three new starters from last season. According to OSU Jamarco Jones, Isaiah Prince, Evan Lisle and Demetrius Knox could win jobs. On the defensive line Elyria s Tracy Sprinkle along with Michael Hill and Donovan Munger could start inside. Tyquan Lewis, Sam Hubbard and Jalyn Holmes are on the ends. At Line Backer who will be next to Raekwon McMillan is the question. Juniors Chris Woodley and Dante Booker are considered the favorites to do so. 75% of last year s starting Tracy Sprinkle Photo Provided Defensive Back s are gone leaving Gareon Conley the only returner. Some young Defensive Back s looking to win spots includes Marshon Lattimore, Damon Webb, Denzel Ward, Cam Burrows, Erick Smith and Malik Hooker. As young and inexperienced as OSU is this season could be Meyer s greatest challenge since coming to OSU. Combining that with what could be their toughest schedule in years it will be interesting to see how long it takes this young group to gel. Some of the highlights in Big Ten play have OSU going to Wisconsin and Penn State on consecutive Saturdays in October. In November they entertain Nebraska before going to East Lansing to play MSU. Remember that the Spartans gave OSU their only loss a year ago in Columbus. They close the regular season out at home vs. Michigan. Paul Keels will be in his 19th year as the Voice of the Buckeyes, Jim Lachey returns for his 20th season as color analyst. New to the broadcast crew is Matt Andrews who will serve as sideline and locker room reporter. Skip Mosic is back for his 32nd season, serving as pregame and halftime host. As always WLKR is your home for OSU football. All broadcasts originate ninety minutes prior to the scheduled kickoff time with the pregame show. 8 Fall 2016 Voice of the Firelands Magazine
