4 Jenison was first settled in 1830 s and 40 s by families like the Jenisons, Lowings, Haires, and others who came to harvest the rich white pine forests along with Grand River. In the 1880 s, as the forests were cleared, farms were established. Both dry land and muck farming continues yet today. The Jenison Museum, located at 28 Port Sheldon, stands like a time capsule. It was built in 1902 by Margaret Husband, bookkeeper of the L&L Jenison Company, in honor of Lucias Luman Jenison. The house stood witness the changes in history of Georgetown Township and a place called Jenison. The museum maintained by Georgetown Township and the Jenison Historical Association, features furnishings and displays showcasing Jenison s history. For more information, visit the Jenison Historical Association, or call The No 10 Schoolhouse built in 1887 is located at Heritage Park, 4264 Canal, Grandville Grandville s history can be traced back to the days when Ottawa and other Indian tribes inhabited this area along the Grand River, (as evidenced by the Indian Mounds Memorial Park, located about 3 miles to the north just outside of town). The first white settler was Luther Lincoln in 1832, who came down the Grand River with his party and stayed the winter here. In the spring, he purchased land from the White Pigeon land office, and the settlement was given a post in It was given a depot by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad in 1872, which significantly contributed to the community s growth. It was organized into a village in 1887 and eventually incorporated into a city in Call for details on the Grandville Historical Association.
