It involves the collection of designated materials from the public, as well as businesses and industries through a variety of recycling opportunities. The opportunities contained in this Recycling Guide are primarily within Richland County. There may also be recycling programs, collection points or other collection systems organized within a business or industry. This Recycling Guide also includes information concerning solid waste transfer and disposals, as well as a list of locations where you can purchase recycling equipment. 25 RECYCLING CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR BUSINESSES Recycling has a big impact on businesses, the environment and you! Consider the following facts: Recycling is good corporate citizenship. Implementing effective environmental practices, such as recycling, can have economic rewards and customers notice! Workplace recycling also helps communities meet recycling goals. A typical business generates about 1.7 pounds of material per employee per day and much of it is recyclable paper. The most discarded products in an average office are 62 percent recyclable paper, 9 percent recyclable cardboard and 29 percent are other materials.
