2 The Instituto H&H Fauser (H & H Fauser Institute) is a non-governmental organization that has for purpose the promotion of the sustainable development, the conservation of the environment, the promotion of the culture and the conservation of historical, artistic and cultural heritage. Its purposes is set in straight actions as plans of education and development of studies and researches in its field of work and through support to the actions of communities, NGOs and Public Institutions. Its headquarters is located at Paraibuna city, State of São Paulo (Brazil), on the region of Alto Paraíba which is included in the Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Forest) Biosphere Reserve and the Green Belt of the City of São Paulo Biosphere Reserve. The Instituto H&H Fauser is a partner of the Green Belt of the City of São Paulo Biosphere Reserve for deploying an Educational Center for Eco-job training in Paraibuna city, which actually prepare 30 young people (in situation of social vulnerability) per year and encourages the local eco-job technical development. The Biosphere Reserves and the Green Belt of the City of the São Paulo Biosphere Reserve A biosphere reserve is an international conservation designation given by UNESCO under its Programme on Man and the Biosphere (MAB). The World Network of Biosphere Reserves is the collection of all 531 biosphere reserves around of 105 countries (as of May, 2008). According to the Statutory Framework of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves, biosphere reserves are created to promote and demonstrate a balanced relationship between humans and the biosphere. Under article #4, biosphere reserves must encompass a mosaic of ecological systems, and thus consist of combinations of terrestrial, coastal, or marine ecosystems. All the above are tools for implementing the Agenda 21, the Convention on Biological Diversity and other international agreements concerning to the world environmental conservation. The Green Belt of the City of São Paulo Biosphere Reserve was established in It was added as a part of the Mata Atlântica Biosphere Reserve, covering another 73 (as of May, 2008) cities around it. In addition to promote improved protection of the forest ecosystem remnants and the biodiversity, one of the main purposes also comprise the development of sustainable uses and social practices.

3 Carbon Neutralization Rationale The Alto Paraíba Region (Paraíba do Sul River s Valley) The Paraibuna s Reservoir Rural property in the Alto Paraiba Region It is one of the poorest regions of the São Paulo State; It has an important role to the wealth of water conservation which supplies the 2 largest Brazilian metropolitan regions São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro; It provides also important environmental services to the Green Belt of the City of São Paulo Biosphere Reserve, and hosts part of the Serra do Mar State Park. The Paraibuna Town Paraibuna City Forestry-pasture System The town is under growing pressure from the real estate result of its proximity to an important industrial pole and a coastal town; Several infrastructures are degradating the local environment like dam, highway, pipeline and gas pipeline; It has economic ability to the sustainable tourism and agro-forestry activities. 2

4 Proposal to the Carbon Neutralization Demarcation of the local plantings Planting seedlings of trees Planting monitoring Planting trees in small rural properties (up to 40 ha), restoring riparian forests and others ecological corridors, producing seeds and native fruits orchards with Mata Atlântica s (Atlantic Forest) native species; Technical preparing and training of Young (in situation of social vulnerability) for the eco-job market; Generating income for Young during the planting and maintenance period (30 months): 150 trees Scholarship aid of 20,00 for 30 months to 1 Young; 240 trees 1 year Internship to 1 student of the Technical Course in Agro-livestock; 290 trees Integral Scholarship to 1 student of the Technical Course in Agro-livestock (2 years); Generating income for rural producers through processing and marketing of fruits and seeds of native species; Generating income for the Town through communitarian tourism development, promoting educational and technical tours and festivals of native fruits; Possibility of expanding to other 19 Eco-job Training Centers (Núcleos de Educação Ecoprofissional), all of municipalities situated at the Green Belt of the City of São Paulo Biosphere Reserve and pertaining to the Mata Atlântica Biosphere Reserve, through agroforestry, restoring riparian forests and others ecological corridors projects. 3

5 Benefits for your business UNESCO s Programme Man and the Biosphere São Paulo City Green Belt Biosphere Reserve The Youth Program - Environment and Social Inclusion Collaboration in reforestation of Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Forest ecosystem, one of the most endangered Rain Forests in the world) with native and ecologically selected species; Participation in a program officially recognized by UNESCO and the world bank BIRD; Direct acting in a project of social-environmental responsibility based on the tripod of sustainable development: development economically viable, environmentally sustainable and socially fair; Facility for visitation (to 120km of São Paulo City and to 30km of São José dos Campos City); Half-yearly reports with data, graphics and photos which can be used in marketing actions. Cost Per tree = 10,00 (R$ 25,00); Minimum number of trees for starting the project = 30 (it will generates a Scholarship aid of 20,00 (R$ 50,00) per 6 months to 1 Young). 4
