8 DEMOGRAPHIC DATA There are more than 26,000 people in the eight communities comprising the CMP. (ACS, 2010)
9 POVERTY RATE >50% Of the population of CMP, reported an annual income below the poverty level of the USA. 42% reported an annual income of $10,000 or less (ACS, 2010)
10 WORK & EDUCATION 48.4% of people aged 25 or older did not have a high school diploma A community survey conducted by ENLACE revealed that labor participation rates are higher in CMP because of their participation in the sector of informal economy. Pictures: Doel Vázquez

Asthma prevalence in the pediatric study population* Age Group Prevalence in study population <5 years 44.5% 5-9 years 21.9% years 25.5% years 3.5% The prevalence of asthma (21.9%) is similar to that reported in children aged 6-7 years in Puerto Rico (21.5%) However, this prevalence was significantly higher in children under 5 years ( 44.5 %).

16 Findings The exposition to floods carrying bacteria is linked to the development of high gastrointestinal disease (GID) prevalence among residents living near the water channel.
