1 Camp Nautilus Camp Nautilus is located in the region of Kenting National Park( is partnership between Scouts of China and National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium ( in providing professional venue in Environment Education to the youth. Kenting National Park was Taiwan's first national park, the diversified terrain and tropical climate of Kenting have helped breed a rich and fertile vegetation ranging from upland to coast with a full variety of living species. Situated on Taiwan's southernmost Hengchun Peninsula, Kenting National Park faces the Pacific Ocean on the east, the Taiwan Strait on the west, and the Bashi Channel on the south. The Park covers a land area of 18,084 hectares, including the coral reef cliffs and coastal zone from Gueishan to Hongchai on the west; Maobitou, Nanwan, Eluanbi, and Kenting Forest Recreation Area south of Longluantan on the south; Jialeshuei along the Pacific ocean on the east; and Nanrenshan on the north.

3 Environmental features of the Centre The nature area, including the Howan bay and Tortoise Mt. cover over 250 hectors providing wide diversity of land and marine species. Kenting area is full of coral reef and abundant marine eco system which is under the conservation protection, and Howan bay is also home of endangered land crabs that represents part of the nature wild life in the national park. Situated in tropical climate with fertile vegetation, here is also internationally famous for migrating birds observation in Asia for scientific research. There are abundant natural resources to provide opportunities for Scouts to experience and connect with natural world. The wetland system (11.5 hectors) in the camp is to polish the effluent from the aquarium after been properly treated, and the final pool is connected to the tidal zone thus attracted coastal marine life, birds and wide variety of plants with observation decks and experiment zone for scouts to participate science courses. Kenting area enjoys cloudless weather most of the time, makes it one of the best location for astronomical observation. Observatory equipped with 2 remote controlled Reflecting Telescope for academic research and education purpose which provide great learning ground for youth. Guided environmental education programme examples and samples: With scout leaders and professional instructors, certified environment education courses are provided as guided environmental learning experiences. These courses are integrated into various type of activities as modules to meet the need of different scout sections in different field of interest. Plus, seasonal ecological events cooperated with national park and forest bureau are also popular and will be part of the MoP programme to widen the experience of scouts in environment related activities. As key part of WSEP in the NSO, the top priority of the camp is to be the training Centre for scout leaders in providing learning opportunities of the World Scout Environment Badge so they can implement in the troop, and also be the exercise ground where scouts of all sections can explore, reflect and act. NSO also has plan to establish the camp as permanent SW Base for Scouts of the World Award program to utilize the facility and professional expertise for scouts to explore the interested project to make some difference to the society through their service plan.

5 Environmental Management of the Centre: The camp is located in the national park region where many areas are under protection and enforced by the EPA police. The mission of the Museum is to conduct scientific research then take necessary action to protect the environment. The camp is in the vicinity of environment sensitivity hot zones where scouts can learn by first hand experience from the ocean, the land and the sky with the ongoing support by the professionals.. The Museum was awarded in 2012 the Certified Environment Education Facility by EPA which proved itself as nationally recognized for its management quality and capacity in providing environment education There is no disposable utensils, and everyone should bring his own gears. All guests to the camp are requested to follow environmental practices to minimize liquid and solid waste, garbage separation, biomass collection as fertilizer. Food supply is requested to be locally produced. Main achievements to date: EPA Certified Environment Education Facility Michelin Green Guide Taiwan awarded 3 stars Marine Wild Life Sanctuary and Rescue Centre Solar Power Education Centre International Coral Reef Restoration Farm Goals for the future: A national project Taiwan Coast Watch with Taiwan Environmental Information Association to train the teachers and trainers, conduct coast field survey and coral reef survey. This is a 3 years partnership with the leading environmental organization, and we are looking into expanding the action all over the country through scout councils and troops to work with local community. The goal is to develop Camp Nautilus as the Sea Base for scouting with general scout activities and sea scout program, environment education training Centre and conservation learning Centre.To organize an international training project by providing sound expertise in coral reef restoration to other SCENES Centres or NSO where the technology can be applied and achieve practical result in their home land. The Museum expect Scout organizations to participate the project proactively to create a better marine environment around the globe. Languages the centre can offer activities in: Mandarin Chinese, English, Japanese
