2 Ron & Caryl s Adventure in the Canyons of the Southwest On September 8, 2018 we flew to St. George, UT to begin our tour of the canyons of Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. The following day we drove to Escalante and explored the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument for three days. On September 11, we drove to Page, AZ and took a tour of the Glen Canyon Dam. The following day we took a special photographic tour of Antelope Canyon, after which we drove back to St. George to join Natural Habitat Adventures for a nine-day photographic tour which took us to Bryce Canyon, Zion, and the Grand Canyon (north rim) National Parks.

3 The main purpose of this trip was photography. Ron had a good time with his Sony a7r III camera and lots of the lenses that go with it. Caryl used her little Canon point-and-shoot which has a great macro function. Most of the close-ups are Caryl s and most of the big landscapes are Ron s.

4 Our first stop was in the city of Escalante, our base for exploring the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.

5 It was 104 when we arrived in St. George and just as hot when we were in Escalante. We saw signs like this at every trail head.

10 The next day we hiked on the Calf Creek trail. After about two miles we had used up half Copyright our 2018 water, Ron Gentry so & we Caryl turned Bryer Fallert-Gentry back and figured that was enough.

17 Antelope Canyon From the first time I saw a picture of Antelope Canyon, I wanted to go there. This is a narrow slot canyon with walls sculpted into sinuous curves, over millions of years, by water, wind, and sand. Ron signed us up for a special photographers tour that took us there at noon, when the sun passes over the top of the canyon, casting shadows and highlights over the surface of the rocks and beams of light in the dust. The following are just a few of the hundreds of pictures we took of the canyon.

43 After Antelope Canyon, we rushed back to St. George to join our 9 day photographic tour with Natural Habitat Adventures. We had dinner and a briefing that evening and the next morning our group of 14 loaded into these two roomy vans. Everyone got a window seat.
