10 MAINLINE STATION OPTIONS I-0 Mainline Section Location Option Recommended for Further Evaluation Activity Center Target Area - 5th Ave/9th Ave Target Area - 4rd Ave/5st Ave/59th Ave Target Area - 6rd Ave/67th Ave 79th Ave 6rd Ave 9th Ave Arterials Evaluated 5th Ave. 9th Ave. 4rd Ave. 5st Ave. 59th Ave. 6rd Ave. 67th Ave. Pros 5th Ave., an expansive north-south arterial, provides opportunity for enhanced regional mobility. 5th Ave. results in fewer land use compatibility issues and property impacts. A station at 5th Ave. could serve Hayden High. A station at either 5st or 59th Ave. would provide a direct connection to the Secondary Urban Village Cores affiliated with Estrella and Maryvale. A station at either 5st or 59th Ave. is more likely to attract commuters from the proposed South Mountain Freeway compared to 4rd Ave. Vacant parcels adjacent to the 59th Ave. location could support a mid-corridor parkand-ride. 67th Ave., an expansive north-south arterial, provides opportunity for enhanced regional mobility. Vacant parcels adjacent to the 67th Ave. location could provide potential park-and-ride locations. Cons 9th Ave., as a smaller collector street, does not readily allow direct LRT/ BRT to local bus connection. Due to dense housing surrounding 9th Ave., acquisition of developed property would be unavoidable. A station at 9th Ave. would require diversion of more bus routes compared to 5th Ave. A station at 4rd Ave. would not directly serve either Maryvale or Estrella Urban Village Cores. Mobility along 4rd Ave. and 59th Ave. is hindered compared to 5st Ave. A station at 5st Ave. would likely require acquisition of an adjacent business due to dense development. Mobility along 6rd Ave., an intermittent collector street north and south of I-0, would be hindered compared to 67th Ave. A station at 6rd Ave. would require diversion of more bus routes compared to 67th Ave. A station at 6rd Ave. could hinder proposed residential and school expansion plans. Arterial(s) Recommended for Further Evaluation 5th Avenue as a Neighborhood Walk-Up 5st and 59th Avenues as a Mid-Corridor -and-ride 67th Avenue as a Mid-Corridor -and-ride Note: The I-0 West AA/EIS Study terminates at the 79th Ave. -and-ride.
