1 PRO PILOT COMPENSATION Salary Study 2015 In bizjets long range brings high PIC paychecks. More police helo use opens doors for flight officers. Offshore and EMS have slowed but still expanding. Dassault Falcon 7X Bombardier Global 5000 Gulfstream G650ER Sikorsky S92 AgustaWestland AW139 Bell 429 Pro Pilot Staff Report A bout 1 to 1.5% were the pilot salary increases during 2015 as compared with This was based on our sampling of corporate light department payment practices and individual questionnaire returns from pilots employed in Part 91 and 135 light ops. The almost lat 2014 to 2015 increase in pilot salaries relects the similarly lat 1% GDP growth in the US along with static economic growth in most of the rest of the advanced world s industrial economies. Note that corporate pilot salaries, whether Part 91 or 135, are slaved to business conditions. Use of private jets, regardless of being corporate or charter, relects that the aircraft are bought and operated from business proits. Airlines, however, bet on population growth. So as the number of people on our planet expands airline mgmt knows that an ever larger fraction of them will travel their long distance trips by airline. Not so with business aviation which still forms a very small slice in the overall world air transportation pie. Bizjets in months to come As businessmen move increasing to automation in their companies, proits grow. And along with those proits there is a desire to expand sales around the world. This growth and movement to sell on an intercontinental basis leads to the desire by corporate management to acquire business aircraft. This will continue to happen. Top business executives don t want to ly to sales appointments via the scheduled airlines. Long-range jets Leading the way in new business aircraft acquisitions are sales of intercontinental business jets. Market domination is controlled by the big 3 of Gulfstream, Bombardier and Dassault. Speed is important but range has become the vital aspect when talking to a potential buyer from a company concerned with global marketing. Midsize and light jets Will the new midsize business jets catch hold? Embraer is putting a lot of effort into their Legacy 450 and 500 with many of the improvements found on the much larger business jets. Cessna Citation has its hat in the same market ring with the Latitude and Longitude. Other new business jets now moving quickly through FAA certiication and racking up sales orders are HondaJet and the Pilatus PC24. In the entry-level jet segment the Cirrus SF50 Vision single-engine jet has a backlog of over 500 orders. Turboprops In turboprops the venerable King Air is still selling well with its 90, 250 and 350. Piaggio s slick P180 Avanti II is a high-lying TP with near jet speeds. Pilatus still has a runaway best seller with its PC12 that is used for everything from charter to heavy aerial truck jobs. And now in the single-engine turboprop ield we have the fastest SE TP available with the 330 kt Daher TBM 900. Piper is putting efforts into its turboprop M500 and M600 to compete. Helo pilot positions are growing Helicopters and hybrid lift machines are sure to grow in use along with opportunities for professional pilots to ly them. 92 PROFESSIONAL PILOT / June 2015

This market has been dominated by Sikorsky with the S92 but AgustaWestland is making a strong effort and is successful with its AW139 followed now by the larger AW189. And Bell s 525 Relentless looks like a winner. Offshore oil helicopter pilot positions continue to pay well and the future is bright for these pilots. If you can augment your ixed-wing ticket by getting a helo license, do it because it s money in the bank. Overall we see more effort coming into the rotary-wing and hybrid helicopter market with more opportunities for dedicated professional pilots. AgustaWestland, Airbus, Bell, MD, Robinson, Sikorsky all have an impressive list of vertical lift machines and they all need pilots. Police Finding out in advance about a planned crime or terrorist act before it occurs so that it can be thwarted is the best countermeasure to such dangerous and unlawful acts. That s why many police are now being outitted with body cameras. But really more importantly it s why so many police departments all over the US and throughout the world are discovering the many beneits of operating helicopters. ISR has become a vital area for our military forces. Municipal police ind such ISR sensors of great beneit too. And that s why use of helicopters by the police has blossomed so much and is continuing to grow. Salaries lying a police helicopter don t match the pay PICs in the Gulfstreams take home, but police helicopter work is steady, pilots are home every night and there are many beneits including knowing you re helping make your community safer. In summary Methodology To keep it as readable as possible we igure salaries in US dollars by aircraft types without bonuses, overtime or other beneits and before taxes. Yes, the market is lat this year but the business aircraft industry is here to stay. Count on it! And your services are needed in this market. This the 43rd year Pro Pilot has conducted a Salary Study by Aircraft Type, matching compensation to speciic ixed and rotary-wing aircraft models. During Mar 2015, 8267 survey forms were sent out to a random selection of qualiied Pro Pilot subscribers in the US and around the world. A total of 1495 survey forms, an 18.1% return, came back to the Pro Pilot ofice in Alexandria VA prior to the stipulated date of May 22nd After review a total of 1271 survey forms were accepted as being properly illed out by qualiied respondents. There were 224 forms that were disqualiied due to lack of information, inconsistencies, errors, part time or contract pilot positions, or lateness. Each form was reviewed carefully to ensure reliability of data. In addition to survey averages, Pro Pilot also compared salaries provided by various corporate and charter light departments, pilot placement agencies and such activities as FAPA.aero, scheduled airlines and the US government.
