2 KILLARNEY HEIGHTS HIGH SCHOOL Wind Ensemble & Jazz Band 2017 JAPAN PERFORMANCE TOUR 24 th September 4 th October, 2017 (subject to change) As of: 23 rd February, 2016 DAY ONE: Sunday, 24 th September, 2017 SYDNEY DEPARTURE Afternoon Arrive at Sydney International Airport. Check in your baggage to Japan and move to the departure gate. You will be able to do some duty free shopping once you have passed through immigration. Depart Sydney for Hiroshima (via Tokyo & Osaka). DAY TWO: Monday, 25 th September, 2017 TOKYO ARRIVAL (D) Arrive into Tokyo International Airport. After proceeding through immigration and transfer to your onward flight to Osaka. Meet your Tour Manager who will stay with you throughout the tour and load your instruments into the luggage truck and board the coach for Hiroshima. Afternoon En route, visit Himeji Castle. Also known as White Heron Castle (Shirasagijo) due to its elegant, white appearance, is widely considered Japan's most spectacular castle for its imposing size and beauty and its well preserved, complex castle grounds. Lunch in supervised groups en route to Hiroshima (own cost). Upon arrival into Hiroshima, check into your hotel and some time to freshen up. Dinner as a group. Hiroshima is famous for its great Okonomiyaki so this will be dinner tonight. Okonomiyaki restaurants are usually small so it may be necessary to break into smaller groups.

DAY THREE: Tuesday, 26 th September, 2017 - HIROSHIMA (B) Performance #1 Coach to Miyajima. Board the ferry boat for Miyajima Island to visit Itsukushima Shrine.

The sight is ranked as one of Japan's three best views.

3 DAY THREE: Tuesday, 26 th September, HIROSHIMA (B) Performance #1 Coach to Miyajima. Board the ferry boat for Miyajima Island to visit Itsukushima Shrine. Miyajima is a small island less than an hour outside the city of Hiroshima. It is most famous for its giant torii gate, which at high tide seems to float on the water. The sight is ranked as one of Japan's three best views. Afternoon Depart the Island and coach to Hiroshima Commercial High School, sister school of Killarney Heights High School for an Exchange Performance (TBC). Return to the hotel and some time for dinner on your own. DAY FOUR: Wednesday, 27 th September, 2017 HIROSHIMA KYOTO (B) Performance #2 After loading the luggage on the truck which will go to Kyoto, check out the hotel. Coach to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum which is located near the Atomic Bomb Dome. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is located in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, in central Hiroshima. The museum exhibit presents the facts of the atomic bombing, with the aims of contributing to the abolition of nuclear weapons throughout the world, and of promoting world peace. Afternoon Coach to Hiroshima Station to take a bullet train to Kyoto. After arriving in Kyoto, coach to Kinkakuji, Golden Pavilion. Kinkakuji is a Zen temple formally known as Rokuonji. In 1397 construction started on The Golden Pavilion as part of a new residence for the retired shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. Kinkakuji was converted into a Zen temple after Yoshimitsu's death in The Golden Pavilion functions as shariden, housing sacred relics of the Buddha and is covered in gold leaf. The present building dates from 1955 as the pavilion was burnt by a fanatic monk in Check in to the hotel and have dinner on own. After dinner, transfer to a local Jazz Club for a Performance for the Jazz Band (TBC)

4 DAY FIVE: Thursday, 28 th September, 2016 KYOTO (B, D) Performance #3 After breakfast, visit the Kiyomizu Temple. A quaint old lane with crafts shops leads to the temple which enjoys a commanding view of Kyoto. Kiyomizu Temple according to legend, Priest Enchin built his hermitage and a small chapel here in 778 A.D. The main hall (National Treasure) has a platform projecting over a precipice, which commands a panoramic view of Kyoto surrounded by cherry blossoms in spring, green foliage in summer, and crimson maples in autumn. In the temple precincts, there are 12 more halls and pagodas. Traditional shops line the streets and are well worth seeing on a trip to Kiyomizu Temple. Ceramics are a traditional specialty. Afternoon Visit a local school for an Exchange Performance (Details TBC). Dinner as a group in a local restaurant. After dinner, return to the hotel. DAY SIX: Friday, 29 th September, KYOTO HAMAMATSU (B, D) Load the instruments and suitcase on the truck which goes to Hamamatsu. Board the coach to Hamamatsu (approx. 3 hour drive). Afternoon Visit the Hamamatsu Museum of Musical Instruments. It is the first municipal museum of musical instruments in Japan. It was established as part of the Hamamatsu City Creation of a City of Music beginning in 1981, and is registered museum facility under the law of museums. The mission of the museum is to collect and preserve a representative selection of musical instruments and related materials from around the world, to research them, to exhibit them with an equal and unbiased perspective, and to cultivate a vast knowledge and understanding of music, musical instruments, and cultures through a variety of activities. Dinner as a group in a local restaurant. After dinner, check into the hotel.

5 DAY SEVEN: Saturday, 30 th September, 2017 HAMAMATSU (B) - Performance #4 Coach to Suzuki Plaza, a Car and Motorcycle Theme Park. Suzuki, one of the major companies representing Hamamatsu, has consistently paid close attention to the lives of consumers since its founding as the Suzuki Loom Works in Since then, the company has grown to become one of the most major brand names throughout the world. At the Suzuki Plaza museum, the many products created by Suzuki over the years are on display, as well as the company's history, and its current vehicle-making efforts. Afternoon Visit a school in Hamamatsu for an Exchange Performance (details TBC). After dinner on your own, coach back to the hotel.

DAY EIGHT: Sunday, 1 st October, 2017 HAMAMATSU TOKYO (B,D) - Performance #5 Load the instruments and suitcases on the truck which will travel to Tokyo. Board the coach to Tokyo (approx.

Asakusa is the center of Tokyo's shitamachi (literally "low city"), one of Tokyo's districts, where an atmosphere of the Tokyo of past decades survives.

The temple is approached via the Nakamise, a shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional, local snacks and tourist souvenirs for centuries.

6 DAY EIGHT: Sunday, 1 st October, 2017 HAMAMATSU TOKYO (B,D) - Performance #5 Load the instruments and suitcases on the truck which will travel to Tokyo. Board the coach to Tokyo (approx. 3 hour drive). Afternoon Arrive at Asakusa and some time for lunch on your own. Asakusa is the center of Tokyo's shitamachi (literally "low city"), one of Tokyo's districts, where an atmosphere of the Tokyo of past decades survives. Asakusa's main attraction is Sensoji, a very popular Buddhist temple, built in the 12th century. The temple is approached via the Nakamise, a shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional, local snacks and tourist souvenirs for centuries. Asakusa can easily be explored on foot. After lunch and shopping time in Asakusa, visit a local school for an Exchange Performance at school (details TBC). This performance will be at a local concert hall for a formal performance. Dinner as a group in a local restaurant. After dinner, check into the hotel. DAY NINE: Monday, 2 nd October, 2017 TOKYO (B) Possible Performance #6 Breakfast at the hotel. Board the coach and transfer to Tokyo Disneyland. According to the Tokyo Disney Resort Performance Department, they have performance programs only in February, March, June, July, October and November. They have not yet announced the schedule of If they have a program and the audition is accepted, possible Performance today at Tokyo Disneyland. (additional cost for percussion hire) Free day in the park to enjoy the rides. Meals on own. Return to the hotel.

DAY TEN: Tuesday, 3 rd September, 2017 TOKYO DEPARTURE (B,L) Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, load your suitcases onto the truck and check out of the hotel.

Coach to Harajuku for some free time and shopping. This area is the center of Japan's most extreme teenage cultures and fashion styles, but also offers shopping for adults and some historic sights. The focal point of Harajuku's teenage culture is Takeshita Dori (Takeshita Street) and its side streets, which are lined by many trendy shops, fashion boutiques, used clothes stores, crepe stands and fast food outlets geared towards the fashion and trend conscious teens. Afternoon Farewell group lunch party. Afterwards, coach to Narita (or Haneda) Airport to check in for your flight to Sydney. Depart Tokyo for Sydney. DAY ELEVEN: Wednesday, 4 th September, 2017 SYDNEY ARRIVAL Arrive into Sydney International Airport, pass through customs and collect your bags. WELCOME HOME!!
