2 Dear Barrington Children s Choir Tour Member, We share in your excitement that your trip to Italy is finally almost here. This tour booklet provides an outline of the highlights of your trip and a detailed itinerary with flight and hotel details for you and those at home who may want to contact you. It also includes information that will be useful while you are in Italy. All the information is subject to change due to any circumstances beyond our control. Name Badge Please wear this upon arrival in Rome so that our staff can recognize you and whenever you are participating in a tour program. Baggage Tags Be sure that each of your bags, including your check-in bag, has a completed KIconcerts baggage tag affixed. Other things to note: Airline Tickets Your airline ticket is an electronic ticket. A copy is not necessary for airport check-in as long as you have your passport and flight information. Passport Your passport is vital. Take care of it at all times. Do not pack it in your check-in baggage and do not leave it lying around. Keep a copy of your passport separate from your passport. 4 PERFORMANCES July 1, 2015 Festival Choir sings the Mass at St. Peter s Basilica, Vatican City St Peter s Basilica is the world s largest Basilica of Christianity, nested into the heart of the Vatican City. The Basilica stands on the traditional site where Peter - the apostle who is considered the first pope - was crucified and buried. St. Peter s tomb is under the main altar and many other popes are buried in the basilica as well. Originally founded by Constantine in 324, St. Peter s Basilica was rebuilt in the 16th century by Renaissance masters including Bramante, Michelangelo and Bernini. 5 PERFORMANCES July 2, 2015 Festival Gala Concert at the Basilica di Santa Maria sopra Minerva, Rome The only Gothic church in Rome, the Basilica Santa Maria sopra Minerva (Basilica of St. Mary over Minerva) is so named because it was built directly on the foundations of a temple to Minerva, the goddess of wisdom. The basilica that stands today was begun in Architectural changes and redecorations in the 1500s and 1900s stripped it of some of its magnificence, but it still includes an awe-inspiring collection of medieval and Renaissance tombs.
