1 Society of Allied Weight Engineers, Incorporated Aerospace Marine Offshore Land Vehicle Allied Industries The Los Angeles Chapter of the Society of Allied Weight Engineers is proud to host the 39th Southwest Regional Conference on Mass Properties & Training November 7-9, 2013 Renaissance Long Beach Hotel 111 East Ocean Boulevard, Long Beach, California INVITATION The SAWE Los Angeles Chapter welcomes all members, industry, faculty, students and exhibitors to participate in the 39th SAWE Southwest Regional Conference. - Mike Notarangelo (Chapter President) & John Nakai (Conference Chairman) The International Conference Planning Meeting is scheduled on Thursday, November 7 th. Technical sessions and vendor exhibits are scheduled for Friday, November 8 th. SAWE Training is planned for Thursday, November 7 th and Saturday, November 9 th.

2 CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS We are actively soliciting mass properties related presentations for the technical sessions on Friday, November 8 th. Technical presentations should be no more than 30 minutes in length. An award will be presented for best technical presentation. The best student presentation dealing with any of the weight categories in the field of mass properties engineering shall receive a monetary award. Please submit a brief abstract to John Nakai & Yi-Ling Tam. EXHIBITORS and SPONSORS Interested vendors and suppliers are invited to participate in our conference. Exhibit space is available on Friday, November 8 th to showcase your products, services and new technologies. Time will be allocated during the technical sessions for each vendor to give a brief presentation. Longer presentations may be coordinated through our technical coordinator. Vendor provided training in the use of a particular service or product can also be arranged. A $500 exhibitor fee is required to have a vendor display table at our conference. 3 TRAINING We plan to offer SAWE training on Thursday, November 7 th and Saturday, November 9 th. (Specific training courses to be offered at this conference are TBD) The standard fee for training is $350/attendee for a full day class and $175/attendee for a half day class. CONFERENCE REGISTRATION Registration fee to attend the Friday technical sessions and exhibits is: $100 for SAWE members, $200 for non-members and $20 for retired SAWE members and students Special consideration will be given to presenters and special guests. Local attractions include the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Pike at Rainbow Harbor (entertainment and dining), Pine Avenue between Ocean and 3rd Street (trendy dining, nightlife and shopping district), Shoreline Village (restaurants and shops), marinas offering water taxis, gondola rides, Catalina Express to Catalina Island, Long Beach-LA Harbor tours, Dolphin Cruises, Segway rentals, bike rentals and a nearby sandy beach. 8 AIRPORTS The Long Beach Renaissance Hotel is situated between three major airports: Long Beach Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, and John Wayne (Orange County) Airport Directions from Long Beach Airport (LGB) to Renaissance Hotel (11 miles): 405 North to 710 South toward Long Beach (merge into middle lane). Exit toward downtown onto Shoreline Drive. Make a left on Pine Avenue and proceed 3 blocks. Hotel is on the corner of Pine Avenue and Ocean Boulevard. Directions from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Renaissance Hotel (22 miles): Exit Airport onto Century Blvd. Follow 1.5 Miles to La Cienega Blvd. Turn Right to the 405 FWY South. Go approximately 15 miles to the 710 FWY South. Once on the 710 S. Merge into the Left lane. Follow to the downtown Broadway exit. (One way East). Go 6 lights to Pine Ave. Turn Right on Pine the hotel is just past 1st street on the Left. Directions from John Wayne Airport (SNA), Orange County to Renaissance Hotel (24 miles): 405 North to 710 South toward Long Beach (merge into middle lane). Exit toward downtown onto Shoreline Drive. LOCAL TRANSPORTATION Long Beach Transit provides a free Passport bus that serves major hotels including the Renaissance and local attractions such as Pine Avenue, the Pike at Rainbow Harbor, Shoreline Village, Aquarium of the Pacific and Queen Mary.
