2 2018 ASHAG ANNUAL awards weekend The PartridgE INN 2110 Walton Way Augusta, Georgia The Partridge Inn began early in the 19th Century as the two-story residence of a prominent local family, Jonathan and Elizabeth Meigs. The property originally belonged to George Walton, governor of Georgia and one of the state s three signers of the Declaration of Independence. In the late 18th Century, Walton had laid out the Village of Summerville, also known as the Sand Hills, as a retreat for Augusta s wealthier citizens to escape from the summer heat. The home remained in the Meigs family until From there, the property changed owners many times until sometime before 1900 when it was sold to Morris W. Partridge. A native of New York, Morris Partridge came to Augusta in 1889 to work at the new Bon Air Hotel located across from the future Partridge Inn. At that time, resort hotels in Georgia were only open on a seasonal basis. Since Georgia had a temperate climate, most guests staying in the area were well-to-do Northerners and Canadians. Many hotel operators and workers followed tourists, working in the Southern hotels in the winter and northern hotels in the summer. Morris Partridge was one of the hotel workers who made the seasonal moves. As Summerville s popularity as a winter tourist resort grew, the business venture proved successful, and in 1909 Mr. Partridge began expansions of The Partridge Inn by adding 20 rooms to the two-story frame house, the first of many additions. Expanded five times before its completion in 1929, the original, but now fully obscured house had grown into a remarkable five-story building with 129 rooms and a quarter mile of galleried porches and balconies. Scheduled for demolition in the early 1980 s, the hotel was saved by an outpouring of local residents who viewed The Partridge Inn as a part of Augusta s heritage. After four years of construction, the hotel reopened and boasted 146 Executive Rooms, Studios and Deluxe Suites and again holds its position as Augusta s Grand Dame welcoming guests to experience the Southern hospitality and graciousness that The Partridge Inn offered their visitors so long ago. In 2014, The Partridge Inn received another renovation, this time more extensive than ever. Northpointe Hospitality Group coupled with Hilton Hotels branded the hotel as a Hilton Curio Collection hotel. Now with a more contemporary interior while maintaining the historical exterior, the facility has come into the 21st center with the style and grace of its beginning. Jeffrey can be seen hosting The Emmy s and appearing on talk shows discussing his love for transforming women to feel as beautiful as they look! Beginning his career in New York in 1976, the year Studio 54 opened it s doors, the disco years of false lashes and big hair! He decided to follow his dream of becoming a top notch hair and makeup artist for the worlds most beautiful models. He has been the primary go to artist in his field, landing dozens of covers for many major magazines including Vogue, Harper s Bazaar and Cosmopolitan. During his years in New York, Jeffrey met many of his celebrity clientele which included Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Jones and Madonna. Working long days and continuously providing a high level of creativity and work ethic, he was in a matter of time working with major cosmetic companies such as Revlon, Estee Lauder and Lancome. A chance meeting with famous fashion photographer Bill King landed his work with the pages of Chanel. A movie being shot in New York, Eyes of Laura Mars with Faye Dunaway, Jeffrey was approached to work on the photos being shot by famous photographer Helmut Newton, a chance meeting with Miss Dunaway brought him to Hollywood and has been his home for the past 35 years. With the launch of the Fetzer Face in 2015, Jeffrey started working in smaller venues which became a wonderful partnership for him with his friends in the horse world. Appointment times will be given on a first come, first serve basis. sarah Tompkins At the age of 12 and under the direction of Timber Hills Farm in Leighton, Iowa, Sarah began riding American Saddlebreds. She competed in both performance and pleasure equitation. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from William Woods University in 1998, she moved to Kentucky and worked for Jo Cornell teaching riding lessons. In 2005, she continued her riding instruction as assistant instructor at Zubrod Stables where she continues to teach today. Seeing a huge need for consignment in saddle seat apparel in Louisville, Kentucky, she began The Show Shop in October She enjoys matching her riders, both academy and performance, with something affordable and beautiful to showcase themselves and their horse in the show ring.
