2 1.052 A. Hatzopoulos S.A. operates from two ultra-modern packaging materials manufacture facilities, covering a total area of 28,000 m2 in the Kalohori region of Thessaloniki. Environmental care, being an integral part of our legacy to future generations, plays a central role in our business development strategy; we have, thus, devised an action plan that will consolidate our organisation s green and eco-friendly character. Kalohori is a town of 4,500 inhabitants, situated 8 km outside Thessaloniki and belongs to the Municipality of Delta. Built on the eastern bank of the delta formed by the river Gallikos, in the heart of Thermaikos Gulf, Kalohori is in close proximity to the seafront; the Kalohori Industrial Estate, where our company s premises are located, lies at the north end of the town. The area was originally named Kaskarka, after the large flocks of geese that used to abound in the area between the Gallikos and Axios rivers deltas. The Kalohori delta used to be a wetland of rare beauty and biodiversity, which, however, has been critically affected by uncontrolled construction development and former unregulated industrial activity. Based on the firm belief that every green space is vital for the Thessaloniki area, given the important role of plants in the water cycle as well as in the filtering of the atmosphere from various exhaust fumes, we transformed our factories surrounding areas into gardens and groves. In fact, our sites now boast a total of 1,052 plants that grow in great variety, which can also be traced in the accompanying photographs:
