2 Marco Polo System geie is a structure of Communitarian law: its members are the City of Venice, and the Union of the Cities of Greece (K.E.D.E.). Marco Polo System geie promotes, realizes and manages Communitarian, national and regional-local projects, providing advise in the fields of Culture, cultural Tourism, interregional territorial Planning and informatics communication. Since 2008 is associated member of Europa Nostra
3 Since several years, Marco Polo System geie, in the framework of different project activities is working focused on the recovery and the valorisation of this immense heritage, starting from the census of how much of Venetian assets has remained in the Adriatic and in the Mediterranean Sea. MISSION 1. Knowledge, recovery and valorisation of the common European heritage, with a particular attention to the military architectures. 2. policy based on the valorisation of a common past of trade, communications, cultural exchanges and influences. 3. Realization of an Euro-Mediterranean cultural-tourist network developed for topics and with a particular reference to the dismissed military architectures.
4 4. Set up of new development opportunities for young generations based on a sustainable economic development tied to an architectonicenvironmental re-qualification and reutilization. 5. Set up of a network of stable partnerships among the operating realities in the field of the recovery and valorisation of the dismissed military architectures 6. Management of the relevant historical, cultural, environmental and touristic assets and services involved in the projects of recovery and valorization
5 Since year 2000 Marco Polo System has prepared, finalized and successfully submitted, either as lead partner, either as partner, more than 45 projects related to fortified heritage for EU and Regione Veneto funding. Resuming last years international would take a lot of time, so let s reasume just some actions: Follow up of Interreg project regarding Fortresses in the Norther Adriatic CAMAA (exhibitions at Study Center ZRC SAZU Ljubljana (SI) and Venice Region s Seat Venice (IT). The next one will be in Ferrara.

23 Last but not least, very important for us was the project AT-FORT Atelier European Fortresses Powering Local Sustainable development Interreg IV C that aims to facilitate the adaptive re-use of fortified heritage sites by exploring solutions for successful approaches and methods to deal with enabling conditions and to create better frameworks for their Associated Member exploitation. This project has the added value of the partnership that includes, beside Marco Polo System and the City of Venice the two most relevant European organisations that deals with fortified heritage: the New Dutch Waterlinie of the Netherlands and the French Network of Vauban s major sites
