2 GARDEN CITIES, AN IDEAL TO BE PURSUED A hundred years later, Garden cities remain amazingly relevant to today s world. They clearly set out unmatched advantages: harmonious urban organiation, vast wealth of architecture and landscape, attachment and living together ability. How did garden cities evolve? Are their principles still enshrined in public action? What is their possible contribution to the making of XXI st century cities? The different components of the symposium will provide an opportunity for evaluating the relevance of the founding Garden City principles based on an integrated approach of XXI st century urban development assessing the specific development of French Garden cities compared to European and worldwide examples reflecting further on quality social housing, even in dense urban areas, interrogate eco-districts as well as new urban settlements in a moving urban landscape. On this occasion, various students and young professionals workshops will devote their time to applying their creative ideas on the potential of garden cities and cities of tomorrow.
