What a rough crossing!
London Monday, April 30 th We arrived in London around 10 am in a pouring rain.
The Tower Of London After a hot drink, we visited the Tower of London, a Norman stone fortress located on the bank of the River Thames. It was a royal residence but also a prison and a place of execution. One of its main buildings, known as the White Tower, was constructed by William the Conqueror in 1078.
King Henry VIII s armour Poker-faced guard at the Tower of London
St John s Chapel inside the White Tower is the oldest church in London. King Henry VIII was a real Bluebeard. This is the place where two of his wives were beheaded.
After lunch, we took the Tube to go to the district of Westminster. The Tube is the oldest underground in the world.
A stroll through London Westminster Palace and The Elizabeth Tower (formerly known as Big Ben) under renovation. London Eye, the famous observation wheel 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the British Prime Minister (Theresa May since 2016)
The Horse Guards Trafalgar Square commemorating the victory of Admiral Nelson over the French fleet at the battle of Trafalgar.
Covent Garden is famous for its restaurants, its theatres, its Opera House and its beautiful market. It is such a beautiful place!

The British Museum The Rosetta Stone is a stone with writing on it in two languages (Egyptian and Greek), using three scripts (hieroglyphic, demotic and Greek). Champollion deciphered hieroglyphs in 1822 thanks to the Rosetta Stone. The British Museum is one of the world s largest museums of human history. We saw the most popular objects in this museum : the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon frieze and the Egyptian department with its impressive collection of mummies.
The Parthenon frieze is a marble sculpture created to decorate the upper part of the Parthenon which was a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena in Athens. It is 160 meters long and represents 378 human figures (men, women, girls, boys, slaves, gods) and 245 animals.
This mummy was nicknamed Ginger because of his red hair. His body was preserved naturally by the hot dry sand of the Egyptian desert where he was buried. He was murdered, stabbed in the back, in his early twenties, 5,500 years ago.

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard Tuesday, May 1 st HMS Victory is a 104-gun (canon) ship of the Royal Navy. She was Admiral Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar. Admiral Nelson won the battle but he lost his life on October 21 st, He was killed by a French sharpshooter. After his death, he was brought back to England; his body was placed in a cask of brandy and he was buried at St Paul's Cathedral on January 9 th, 1806.
Treasure Hunt in Brighton Wednesday, May 2 nd Shopping time at Churchill Square, the largest shopping mall in Brighton, and in the Lanes, narrow streets famous for their small and trendy shops.
In the footsteps of William the Conqueror Thursday, May 3 rd Hastings Castle Hastings Castle was originally a wooden tower built on top of a cliff by William from Normandy in September After the victory at the Battle of Hastings, which took place on October 14th 1066, William the Conqueror was crowned on Christmas Day 1066 and decided to have the castle rebuilt in stone.
Abbey and Battlefield We also visited Battle Abbey, the site of the Battle of Hastings where the armies of king Harold and William the Conqueror clashed. We saw a very beautiful school: Battle Abbey School and we took pictures of students wearing school uniforms. So British!
Brighton Friday, May 4 th The Royal Pavilion The Royal Pavilion is a magnificent oriental palace built on behalf of George IV.
It was designed in Indian style with fantastic Chinese interior decorations. The Banqueting Room is worth a visit with its breathtaking chandelier!
Treasure Hunt in Brighton We explored the city of Brighton with a fun treasure hunt. We followed the directions and solved the clues along the way. Thanks to this hunt, we saw many local attractions and places of interest. The winner of the treasure hunt was Mr Marquié's team. Mrs Lietta's team came in second place.
Brighton Palace Pier Brighton Pier is a place for fun-loving people. It is a very popular tourist attraction which houses restaurants, ice cream parlors, and even an amusement park with roller coasters and fairground rides. It's great to go on the roller coaster and not be sick!!
Back to France Saturday, May 5 th We began the long journey home on Friday 4 th at 7 pm and we arrived in Coursan the following day at 5:30 pm. The Channel crossing was very pleasant because the weather conditions were excellent! Every crossing is different!
