16 MORE THAN to explore Museums support your good health This guide has been produced by Leicestershire County Council with the help of the Leicestershire and Rutland Museums Forum which was established in 1987 to help support the growing number of private and voluntary museums in Leicestershire and Rutland. The forum provides a network of support and is itself actively supported by Leicestershire County Council s Community Museums Officer who offers professional advice and practical assistance to its members. Many forum members are small, volunteer-run museums or heritage preservation groups relying on the enthusiasm and dedication of their members to maintain and preserve a wide variety of collections. They have the common aim of informing and educating the public about our shared heritage in an attractive and accessible way. For more information on the Leicestershire and Rutland Museums Forum go to Volunteering in museums Many Leicestershire museums have volunteering opportunities for a variety of duties. For more details, call communityservices@ leics.gov.uk or visit gov.uk/volunteers Museums offer a wide range of positive activity to all members of our communities encouraging both physical and mental activity through learning, discovering and doing. Museums support emotional well-being by helping people understand the world they live in (or just their small part of it) and offering people a space to contemplate and reflect on their lives and those of others.
