Description CATIA V5.8 delivers 21 new products and enhanced capabilities that have been conceived and refined in close cooperation with customers who are deploying CATIA V5 across their extended enterprises. The result is increased capabilities across a wide range of 3D PLM processes that deliver improved time to market and reduced costs while supporting large-scale deployment of collaborative relational design. As a result of these strong customer partnerships, CATIA V5.8 brings significant improvements in business process coverage, productivity, and methodology. Multi-height pads for aerospace machined parts, complex shape fillets, and tolerant all terrain sweeping for body-in-white, which leads to robust associative modeling, are just a few examples of CATIA V5 s customer-driven enhancements. With V5.8, CATIA s relational design paradigm can be deployed from concept-to-detailed design, thanks to publication and federation mechanisms and to the feature-to-feature relationship management provided by ENOVIAvpm. Additionally, the advanced product management and rule-based configuration capabilities available with ENOVIAvpm are extended in V5.8 to support CATIA installations on Windows NT and This extended support uniquely provides a consistent Virtual Product Design Management (VPDM) capability across mixed environments of CATIA V4 and V5 on UNIX and Windows NT. It brings significant benefits to organizations making the transition from UNIX to Windows NT or within an extended enterprise where VPDM exchange is required across supplier and OEM installations. Collaboration across multiple installations is also significantly enhanced with the VPM multisite capability for reconciliation of dynamic product data. Added Value and Scalability for Collaborative Process-Based Design in the SME This release introduces major advances in the function and usability of CATIA V5 s P1 platform to provide SME customers with high-value capabilities at the lower cost of P1 solutions. The release introduces the ability to use P2 applications directly with a P1 seat, significantly enhancing the scalability of CATIA V5. By allowing the required additional level of capability for specific tasks to be added to a CATIA seat, seamless expansion and growth are now possible. For example, the capability of a P1 installation can be expanded to take advantage of advanced P2 platform applications, such as piping and tubing and creating knowledge rules and applications. These developments, which feature the common user interface and data model shared by all CATIA platforms, ensure that there are no restrictions on how or when new applications can be added when entering the PLM world with CATIA P1 seats. The enhanced scalability delivered with V5.8 makes the benefits of integration, associativity, and the usability of CATIA V5 accessible and affordable for the smaller engineering organization and provides flexibility to deliver appropriate capability across a wider user community within the extended enterprise. To reinforce the value of this offering, CATIA V5.8 also introduces the new Extended Mechanical Design 1 configuration. This configuration provides in one package all the capabilities required to support the integrated, in-context design of complex parts and assemblies, including sheetmetal components, and comprehensive drafting capabilities. In addition, this release introduces the ability to directly access non-catia data using the new MultiCAD plug-ins. The plug-ins: Provide direct access to data from other CAD systems. Offer unique associative capabilities to allow modifications in the external data to be propagated to the CATIA product definition. Best-in-Class Manufacturing Solutions for Enhancing the Part-to-Production Process CATIA V5 NC Manufacturing Solutions offer the largest portfolio of NC manufacturing applications within a single system, covering turning, drilling, 2.5- to 5-axis milling, NC simulation, and rapid prototyping. The addition in this release of the Advanced Machining product adds new capabilities to support complex 5-axis milling (flank contouring). These capabilities were developed in close cooperation with long-standing aerospace industry partners to address their specific manufacturing processes. Other enhancements lead to significant productivity benefits in key operations, such as concentric roughing. A new Preparation Machinist package delivers a cost-effective combination of modeling and NC programming capabilities. Also new to CATIA V5 in this release is the NC Manufacturing Review product. NC Manufacturing Review allows the designer to review toolpaths and includes such tasks as material removal simulation. It also facilitates the review of toolpaths created using CATIA V4 to ensure that these corporate assets can be reused and updated within any CATIA V5 NC application. CATIA V5 s manufacturing portfolio is now fully enabled to take advantage of CATIA knowledgeware capabilities, allowing the manufacturing knowledge that is built into the initial design to be used to drive the NC program creation process. For example, to influence the sequencing of machining operations, the Knowledge Expert product, with its much wider applicability in V5.8, drives the standardization of methods and techniques based on company know how and validates toolpaths across the organization. The complete integration of the V5 Manufacturing Solutions within the overall CATIA solutions portfolio ensures that design tasks take full account of manufacturing constraints and that potential manufacturing problems are minimized. In addition to significant benefits of integration with design, CATIA V5.8 Manufacturing Solutions stand out as a comprehensive, best-in-class, highly productive set of capabilities that can be used stand-alone within any manufacturing organization. This technical leadership is reinforced in V5.8 by the ability to directly access non-catia data through the MultiCAD plug-ins. It is now possible to machine directly on geometry from customers using different CAD systems. No time-consuming conversions to neutral formats are required, and associativity between the customer s CAD data files and the NC programs is maintained, ensuring rapid response to customer change requests. CATIA V5.8 also demonstrates maturing capability in post processors to speed the implementation of CATIA NC Solutions through partnerships with IMS and CENIT

Pervasive Knowledge-Based Engineering for Collaboration, Automation, and Validation at all Stages of the Product Life Cycle This release extends CATIA V5 s well-established, knowledge-based engineering capabilities to allow rule base access for design and process validation across the complete product definition. The new Knowledge Expert 1 product gives the entire CATIA community access to rule bases created to support design processes to ensure right the first time design. Using these rule bases, which incorporate performance, manufacturing process or legislative constraints, and other critical corporate standards, within the design becomes automatic. The need for engineering changes from downstream processes is minimized. In recognition of the expanding role of knowledge-based applications and the expectation that the use of knowledge rules will become pervasive throughout the engineering process, Knowledge Expert 1 s capability is added to the base Mechanical Design (MD2) and Hybrid Design (HD2) configurations and is part of the new P2 Extended Mechanical Design (XM2) Configuration. The possibilities for Knowledge Expert use are also expanded with the ability to recognize user-defined feature types and attributes and to trigger rules based on them to automate operations on these or associated parts. New tools globally report the status of a complete product against all current rules. Checks facilitate rapid assessment and reporting of rule compliance to provide clear understanding of the status versus targets. The new knowledgeware reaction feature adds further automation and reuse possibilities, enabling intelligent user-defined features to adapt to their usage context on instantiation or other events. For instance, placing a fastener from a catalog could automatically trigger creation of the required holes in the joined parts, position it relative to edges, or use other rules to validate such attributes as material suitability. CATIA knowledgeware can now also be applied to the digital mock-up process by using CATIA knowledge rules with the space analysis process to perform rule-driven interference checking. By taking into account specific clearance requirements, tolerated contacts, or even limited overlaps, CATIA V5.8 can significantly reduce the time required to review interference and other packaging issues while ensuring the compliance of products to the most complex safety regulations or product synthesis corporate standards. 3D PLM Shipbuilding Industry Solutions for Differentiating Conceptual Design and Outfitting Integration CATIA V5.8 targets high productivity in ship design and systems integration with dedicated functions for naval architects and engineering departments in shipyards and their suppliers. The solutions cover outfitting, electrical power and control systems, fluid distribution, and ship structures from concept to functional design, including equipment support structures. The consistent and scalable nature of these CATIA V5 applications deliver unprecedented capability for large-scale projects. Specific applications address key processes in the ship design life cycle, and enhancements to existing CATIA V5 applications support requirements specific to the shipbuilding industry. These advanced capabilities also benefit from the CATIA V5 infrastructure. They enable knowledge-based applications for design automation and rule validation, and inherent associativity throughout the design process facilitates concurrent design processes. Specification-driven design can be employed where required to ensure compliance with project standards. The 2D logical design can drive the 3D physical definition, preventing, for example, the placement of 3D equipment in the ship if it is not part of the 2D piping and instrumentation diagram logical definition. The new Structure Preliminary Layout and Structure Functional Design products add specific capabilities to support the ship hull design process. The new HVAC Design and Electrical Cableway Routing products provide complete process coverage from conceptual to detail design for all outfitting disciplines (piping, HVAC, electrical). Ship equipment design (engines, propellers, cooling systems) is already addressed by CATIA V5 s extensive tools for mechanical, equipment, and system design. End-to-End Solutions for Productivity in Tooling Design and the Manufacture and Design of Molded, Forged, and Cast Parts The already comprehensive and highly-productive capabilities for mold tool design and manufacture in CATIA V5 are further enhanced in this release to allow rapid assessment of part moldability and assessment of mold complexity. The new Core and Cavity Design product supports design for manufacture with rapid validation of part moldability and identification of parting lines, slider, and loose core requirements to minimize mold tooling costs. The product features full downstream associativity to mold tool design and NC manufacturing definitions. For the design and manufacture of molded parts, the ability to reverse engineer a 3D model from a physical part can be a critical step. V5.8 introduces the Quick Surface Reconstruction product, which enables the rapid creation of accurate surface definitions from scanned point data that has been imported with the Digitized Shape Editor product. This new capability will significantly reduce the time from scan to tool in operation. The final piece of the molded part process for early part validation is the use of stereolithography (STL) to create prototype parts and molds. CATIA V5.8 introduces a complete STL interfacing and editing capability, allowing not only import and export, but also significant capabilities for editing and refining the STL model to produce a fully-defined part ready for immediate processing. This capability ensures that intermediate steps and modifications on the machine and trial runs can be reduced to a minimum for maximum productive use of the STL machine and minimized waste. The ability to directly read and operate on data from other (non-catia) CAD systems is now provided to the CATIA user with the V5 MultiCAD solutions. These solutions allow direct validation of moldability using the Core and Cavity Design product and use in the CATIA knowledge-driven Mold Tool Design product for maximum productivity through process integration. The most comprehensive and easy-to-use capabilities available today for NC machining process definition and management complete the picture for the mold tooling process

Best practices Application processes Design validation and correction Generated reports provide better identification of standards violations and help to implement necessary corrections. As an integrated product, Knowledge Expert 1 can be used cooperatively with all other V5 products to share process applications throughout the enterprise. Use of Corporate Knowledge Databases Knowledge rule databases allow a company to capture knowledge, standardize its methods, and automate its knowledge-based processes. With Knowledge Expert 1, users can import and use different corporate knowledge rule databases to determine immediately if a corporate violation has occurred. Tasks are automated, and the risk of errors are reduced, improving productivity as the user converges on an optimized design while learning what s right for the company. Early Attention to Design Consistency to Eliminate Costly Redesign When a rule or check is violated, Knowledge Expert 1 facilitates corrections through contextual menus and by highlighting the objects to be corrected. The status of checks is indicated dynamically with a green (valid) or red (invalid) icon in the specification tree. Red/green light icons give users a quick and easy way to assess the adherence of a design to corporate standards plus an easy way to locate problems. A simple check status is also available from a red/yellow/green light icon in the workbench toolbar. When clicking on the icon, all checks are displayed in a single box, and the user can analyze and perform corrections. This approach is especially useful when many checks have been imported. For large assemblies, for example, it allows navigation by checks or violations and highlights failed components. Finally, corrective actions are recommended or automated using VB Script macros, text, or links to URL files. For example, a user adds a hole to a part, and the knowledge rules indicate that the hole is too close to the edge. A pop-up menu can suggest either that the hole be moved or that reinforcing material be added. Simply by selecting which solution is desired, the designer can allow the system to solve the problem instantly. Report with Complete Descriptions of Verifications Performed Knowledge Expert 1 offers report capabilities in multiple output formats, such as HTML and XML, permitting, for example, the publishing of customized reports of rules and check violations for posting directly to a company s intranet. Reports can be generated with short or long problem descriptions (depending on the level of detail required), and can include a list of all results or only the failed rules (or conversely, only the passed checks). In addition, the user can choose to have the report sorted by rule, object, or rule state. Companies can drive the design along the process ensuring that the corporate know-how is being shared and integrated by all users. Integration with other CATIA V5 Products The full integration into CATIA V5 enables the user to work with any V5 specification. As an integrated product, Knowledge Expert 1 can be used cooperatively with all other CATIA V5 products throughout the enterprise. This product has been added to the CATIA Hybrid Design 2 (5691-HD2) and CATIA Mechanical Design 2 (5691-MD2) configurations as an included product. NC Manufacturing Solutions CATIA STL Rapid Prototyping 1 (5693-TL1) STL Rapid Prototyping 1 delivers a convenient and well-controlled method for creating STL files by tessellating CAD data and/or by import, check, and improvement (healing) of existing STL files. This new product addresses by itself the rapidly-growing prototyping market, specifically stereolithography. However, it also could be used in several other covered processes covered thanks to the complementary use of other CATIA V5 applications, such as direct machining on polygons with 3 Axis Surface Machining 2 (SMG) and early manufacturing process simulation of mock-ups and space analysis of a digitized mock-up in a CAD environment with DMU Space Analysis 2 (SPA). STL Import Import digitized data under the STL standard interface format as meshes. The user can preview, scale, trim or change the units of measure of the imported meshes. STL Export Export meshes under the STL standard interface format to communicate with the rapid prototyping machines. Surface Tessellation Tessellate CAD data with control of the sag value and the maximum length of edges and with the respect of the input topology. Obtaining the best quality meshes drastically reduces process duration. Manipulating Meshes Define detailed areas, either by 3D box or by unitary selection of triangles or vertices. The user can also remove vertices or triangles or sub-parts in the same way. These actions may be done with user-friendly functions (Activation and Remove commands). Two others commands (Merge and Split Meshes) allow the user to work with submeshes before creating the final mesh. Offset Generate a thin offset of a mesh (without auto-intersection processing) with the ability to obtain a watertight solid. This function allows the user to create machinable mock-ups of surfacic models. Mesh Quality Checking Mapping and isophote diagnoses are usable on meshes. The specific command Display Options Management allows the user to apply flat or smooth shading to meshes or to visualize their free edges and/or their non-manifold edges. Mesh Quality Improvement Fix such mesh defects as holes (by filling them) or by reorganizing their triangles to redesign sharp edges to respect the mechanical shape. Machining Machining directly-generated meshes is possible thanks to the full integration of the product in CATIA V5 of 3 Axis Surface Machining 2 (SMG). CATIA NC Manufacturing Review 1 (5693-NG1) NC Manufacturing Review 1 provides a fast and easy way to visualize 3D NC manufacturing data. It provides easy access, visualization, and browsing of not only CATIA V5 manufacturing data, but preprocessing specifications and results from any CAM system. NG1 delivers infrastructure basics to create and integrate machining workbenches and additional machining strategies with full integration in the CATIA V5 NC Manufacturing Solutions suite of products. Import and Review NC Data NG1 can read APT, CL, and ISO files, whether CATIA-native or not. It can replay and edit NC data in a 3D graphic environment and then save the updated data in another CATIA V5 NC Manufacturing

Solutions workbench. Regardless of the import data format, NC data can be regenerated and exported in any supported format. Import and Review V5 CAT Process Part Programs Depending on the company s role in a supply chain, it may not need a full CATIA V5 NC Manufacturing Solutions seat in certain circumstances. In such cases, NG1 will allow the user to browse the options, parameters, and associated geometry that builds a CATProcess to optimize ROI. Shop Floor Documentation Exclusive to CATIA V5 NG1 is the ability to produce shop floor documentation in HTML format to facilitate communication with all project participants. Infrastructure for NC Programming Products (xm1) NG1 ensures the availability of common tools for specific NC programming products and is a prerequisite for every other CATIA P1 NC Manufacturing Solutions product. Infrastructure for CAA Partners Products All NC CAA manufacturing partners are likely to offer you their own know-how by using NG1 for developing their applications. By using NG1, these partners can guarantee a total integration of their contribution within the entire CATIA V5 P1 NC Manufacturing Solution framework. This product is included in the new CATIA Manufacturing Review 1 configuration (5691-MR1). Infrastructure Solutions CATIA COM 1 to 2 Extension (5691-C12, 5693-C12) COM 1 to 2 Extension gives access to the portfolio of CATIA V5 P2 applications for CATIA V5 P1 customers or for CATIA V5 P1 users in a mixed P1/P2 environment. When installed on top of any P1 configuration, C12 acts as an upgrade of the CATIA V5 infrastructure from a P1 platform to a P2 platform and allows users to install P2 shareable products in addition to it. Note: Does not apply to P1 on Microsoft Windows 98. Access to the Largest Application Portfolio With COM 1 to 2 Extension, companies having selected the P1 platform of CATIA V5 are given the opportunity to use P2 applications to embrace a larger scope of processes as their business needs grow. Flexibility The evolution from the P1 platform to the P2 platform can be made at any time after initial installation, either on all workstations or on a limited set of workstations dedicated to specific tasks. Asset Protection The evolution from the P1 platform to the P2 platform is an extension, but not a replacement, of software. Therefore, the investment made on hardware acquisition, software licenses, training, methodology development, etc. is totally preserved. All data generated is preserved as well because CATIA V5 P1 and P2 applications share a common data model. MultiCAx Plug-ins Many customer environments use multiple CAD/CAM products, either 2D or 3D. This may be because over time, as one CAD product replaced another, it was necessary to keep a minimum number of the previous system s licenses to maintain the data. Or perhaps the different products satisfy different requirements across mechanical, electrical or software development departments. Then again, in an extended enterprise where multiple suppliers are exchanging data, it may be that members of the engineering supply chain use different CAD systems. In all these cases, full design-in-context capabilities are only available if the designers are able to use the CAD data regardless of which tool it comes from. MultiCAx plug-ins provide the ability to convert foreign CAD data from its native format into a format compatible with a digital mock-up development environment and to support collaborative work for implementing best practices, such as review, interference detection, kinematics, and fitting. MultiCAx plug-ins provide the ability to import 3D data from IDEAS, ProEngineer, Unigraphics, SolidEdge, SolidWorks, ACIS, Parasolid, and various other formats, such as SLP, OBJ Wavefront, VRML, and IDEAS IFF. The plug-ins also support 2D data from Pro/E and Unigraphics. The plug-ins can be used in conjunction with CATIA V5 products to visualize a multicax digital mock-up. MultiCAx plug-ins allow customers to preserve their CAD investment while still benefiting from CATIA V5 s rich digital mock-up processes. They foster collaborative work by supporting a heterogeneous digital mock-up and by proposing synchronization tools. All plug-ins allow exact positioning and exact measurement of parts using facilities offered by the digital mock-up tool, such as planes, coordinate systems, and cylinder axes. Where assemblies are supported, their links to component parts are resolved, allowing complete assemblies to be automatically and accurately inserted into the digital mock-up product structure. For some plug-ins used in a Windows environment, translation does not require a license for the source CAD system. The specific plug-ins are: MultiCAx P Plug-in (5691-DPL) MultiCAx I Plug-in (5691-DIL) MultiCAx U Plug-in (5691-DUL MultiCAx SolidWorks Plug-in (5691-DSL) MultiCAx SE Plug-in (5691-DEL) MultiCAx AD Plug-in (5691-DAL) Note that these products were previously announced available only within the ENOVIA Portal portfolio. Connection Management The user can add, remove, or change geometric components for a given tolerance or set of tolerances. CATprocess Document Support In addition to part and product documents, 3D annotations can now be created in process documents. Note Object Attributes The administrator (or user) can create 3D text templates called note object attributes. Note object attributes can be used to represent technological or process information, such as marking, finish data, or material. The attributes are defined by a type and a 3D representation, which can be either text or a 2D ditto. Attributes are stored in a catalog as company annotations and will convey the

meaning they symbolically represent when they are instantiated on part or product geometry. Leader Associative Orientation Allow leaders of annotations to remain perpendicular to the geometry and to be placed outside the geometry with the automated addition of extension lines. CATIA Mold Tooling Design 1 (5693-MT1) General Functions Assembled component (phase 2) Multi-instantiation by sketch of points Standard Components Slider Retainers Cooling Component Plug New Standard Components Hasco Strack Futaba Add standard mold base (plates only) PCS (U.S.) Misumi EOC National (U.S.) Pedrotti (Italy) DME-AMERICA Rabourdin DME Meusburger (Germany) CATIA Sheetmetal Design 1 (5693-SM1) V5 Integration V5.8 adds Edit/Search integration. Chamfers When creating relief-type dress-up features, the user can easily create chamfers or welding chamfers. Optionally, convex or concave edges can be selected automatically to perform a chamfer operation. Walls on Edges Walls can now be defined by height or length. Corners As an option, convex or concave edges can be selected automatically when creating corners. Bends When sketching a wall, two types of optional bend extremities can be applied. Extruded Bends (Circular Walls) Sketches with lines and circles are now accepted. Previously, sketches were accepted only with lines. User Stamps This new dress-up function allows the user to pre-visualize the result of a stamp with a 3D manipulator for rotation. The ergonomy of the function has also been dramatically improved. The user can choose between punch and die or cutting and opening faces in two different panels. Flanges, Tear Drops, and Hems The bend axis in drafting in planar cases. Pattern Geometry Simplification Another new dress-up function, pattern simplification improves performance by allowing the user to remove pattern instances in a preview presentation to obtain a required result. Wall Recognition The reliability and flexibility of the product s ability to recognize sheetmetal features in an existing solid is improved by allowing the user to choose the walls to be recognized by face selection with different options for cut-outs. Flanges Spine with tangency propagation and from-to on spines. New Features and Functions Bend from flat User-defined swept features (flange) User-defined stamp User pattern Manual corner relieves Extruded bends (circular walls) Conical bends Output DXF CATIA Sheetmetal Production 1 (5691-SH1, 5693-SH1) Wall Recognition The reliability and flexibility of the product s ability to recognize sheetmetal features in an existing solid is improved by allowing the user to choose the walls to be recognized by face selection with different options for cut-outs. Shape Design and Styling Solutions Real Time Rendering 1 (5693-RT1) Note: Beginning with this release, Real Time Rendering 1 is common to both ENOVIA Portal V5 and CATIA V5 as an add-on only product. The 5691-RT1 shareable product is withdrawn. Interactive Creation of Material Appearance Material families can now be displayed as an alphabetical list Ergonomics Real-time Display of Textured Parts and Products -- The user can now manipulate the mapping operator and the texture in the 3D view. -- An optional desynchronize mode prevents the mock-up visualization from being updated while modifying material parameters. Materials Specification Management Material textures of a model are copied when using the Send To command. Product Synthesis Solutions CATIA Product Knowledge Template 1 (5693-KT1) In V5.8, such user-defined features as a line for Drafting or a check for Knowledge Advisor, become open and shareable objects. This capability significantly increases the potential application of user-defined features. Find user-defined features based on attributes. Generate user-defined features with Generative Knowledge 2 to simplify the process of creating scripts. Define expert rules for working on user-defined features with Knowledge Expert 2. Use user-defined features in Knowledge Advisor 2 reactions. Develop CAA functions based on user-defined variables. CATIA DMU Navigator 1 (5693-DN1) Product Structure Editing Part and subassembly mirroring Reset position

Visualization Greater precision in visualization mode 2D Format Ability to read HPGL2 Performance Lighter.NCGM Measurement Capabilities Measure generic items -- Manage measurement settings -- Manage measurement graphical properties Measure geometry -- Automatic measurement update in part context -- Measure surface perimeter Measure mass and inertia -- Inertia on multi-selection and groups -- Export inertial bounding box values Ergonomy Active/Hide/Show in the specification tree DMU Space Analysis 1 (5693-SP1) The release completes the P1 function set.
