3 The Railway transport of Ukraine Six railways authorized territorial and branch associations are basic structural components of industrial and technological transport complex of Ukraine. Their structure includes1503 railway stations, 23 container terminals, 135 locomotive, carload (wagon, carriage) and passenger depots. The technical parameters of Ukrainian railway network: total length of operational network makes 22,1 thousand km, extensive length of the track 30,0 thousand km; electrified line makes up 9,3 thousand km (41,7%); 13,4 thousand km line is equipped with train operation automatic control (60,7%); 38,9 thousand of points are equipped with electric interlockings and signaling (69,9%); there are artificial constructions, among them there are 7,7 thousand bridges and 42 tunnels; inventory fleet of Ukrzaliznytsia's ownership makes up: 1788 electro locomotives, 2637 diesel locomotives, 174,3 thousand freight cars and 8,3 thousand passenger cars.

13 Restructuring railway transport of Ukraine Restructuring railway transport of Ukraine: 26 railway branches lost their status as legal entities and were reorganized in railway structural divisions Managements of rail services; 430 railway line subdivisions were removed from structure of separate railways under the direct submission of the Railways Administrations; 110 railway infrastructure subdivisions are removed; six ineffective railway sections are stopped operating.

14 Restructuring railway transport of Ukraine Have been privatized: 5 repair plants; 42 whole property complexes of trade service and public catering; 134 separately chosen objects of subsidiary activity, and 7 objects of culture and social purposes and 18 objects of uncompleted construction.

15 Restructuring railway transport of Ukraine Became the corporations: 9 rolling-stock repair plants; 3 plants of railway building infrastructure; 32 enterprises of industrial railway transport.

16 Restructuring railway transport of Ukraine Handed to the municipal property: 9,64 million square metres of dwelling, which makes 90 per cent of housing resources belonged to the railways; all 223 kindergartens, 21 cultural and 14 physical culture and sport institutions.

17 THE INVESTMENT POLICY The main directions: Budget support of a railway transport especially in financing of a passenger rolling stock acquisition Budget compensation of railways losses from transportation preferential categories of passengers Wide development of leasing systems for updating and modernizations of railway rolling stock Attraction of private investments, particularly operating companies, for aquisition of a rolling stock

18 THE INVESTMENT POLICY The priority projects: Construction of the bridge over the Dnipro river in Kyiv area. The project cost is 550 mln US dollars. Construction of technical passenger station (TPS) on the Kyiv railway junction. The project cost millions US dollars. Construction of testing area for the rolling-stock. The project cost - 30 millions US dollars.

24 International Transport Corridors via Ukraine territory The total length of the international transport corridors on Ukrainian territory makes up 3162 km. It mainly consists of double track (92,3 %), electrified (77,3 %), equipped with automatic block systems (90 %) main railway with high transit capacity. For the last five years 4118 km of the track are repaired, 597 km are electrified, and upgrading the system of interlocking and means of communication and artificial construction are carried out on these directions.
