2 'Balkan Beauty Tour' 7 - Day itinerary Day 1 Sofia Arrival in Sofia and transfer to your hotel. Free time to explore the Bulgarian capital. Overnight Sofia 3 star Sofia Place Hotel / St George Hotel Day 2 Sofia Kruševac Studenica (Serbia) Depart to Serbia and our first stop is in the old capital - the town of Kruševac. Then we will visit Studenica - the most important monastery of medieval Serbia. Overnight in a hotel next to the monastery. Overnight Kraljevo 3 star Hotel Royal (B) Day 3 Studenica Visegrad Sarajevo (Serbia/Bosnia and Herzegovina) On our way to Bosnia and Herzegovina we will stop at Mokra gora the wooden village built by worldwide renowned director Emir Kusturica. After crossing the border we will see the famous bridge of Mehmed Pasha near Visegrad, praised in the novel "The Bridge on the Drina" of the Nobel laureate - Ivo Andrich. Then we will continue to Sarajevo. 4 'Balkan Gems Tour' 7 - Day itinerary Day 1 Saturday Skopje (Macedonia) Welcome to Skopje, upon you arrival, will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. The afternoon will be for gentle walking tour of the center, visit Kale Fortress, the Church of the Holy Savior with its iconostas, one of the finest samples of traditional walnut woodcarving, Old Bazaar and Stone Bridge. Overnight Skopje 4 star Best Western Hotel Turist Day 2 Sunday Skopje - Ohrid (Macedonia) This morning, we drive to Ohrid, this Unesco world heritage site is known as the 'MacedonianJerusalem'due to its large number of churches. This enormous lake is renowned for the clarity of its water. Discover highlights of Ohrid, The church of St. Sofia (11th century), the most eminent mediaeval monument in Macedonia with magnificent Byzantine fresco paintings and St. Clement Church with its icon of Annunciation. Overnight Ohrid 4 star Belvedere Hotel (B) Day 3 Monday Ohrid - Tirana (Albania) After breakfast, we continue to Albenia, stopping en route at the remains of a Turkish fort. In the afternoon, we have a tour to explore Tirana, the capital of Albania, including Skanderbeg Square, the Mosque of Ethem Bey and the National Museum representing the flow of Albanian history and housing the finds from archeological sites across the country. In the evening, you can have dinner at a traditional restaurant and then explore the nightlife of Tirana, walking in the ex-block area known as "the forbidden town" where the villas of the communists'leaders are still standing next to trendy boutiques, expensive jewelry shops and active local pubs. Overnight Tirana 4 star Tirana International Hotel (B) Day 4 Tuesday Tirana - Budva - Kotor (Montenegro) After breakfast, leaving Albania crossing the border at Shkodra, once the capital of the Illyrian Kingdom (3rd century B.C.) and drive to Kotor via Budva. Apart from its natural beauty, its bay islands and beaches for example, Budva is rich in historic monuments. Budva Old Town lies on a small peninsula and represents a treasure chest of culture heritage. Crossed with narrow streets and squares are famous buildings, the Church St. Trojica, housing the tomb of the exquisite writer Stjepan Mitrov Ljubisa, the Churches of St. Ivan, St. Bogorodica and St. Sava. After free time in Budva, continue to Kotor, which is set on the beautiful Bay of Kotor (along which a number of towns are situated - you could equally stop off at any of them) and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Amongst the sights to see are the well-preserved Old Town and its city walls, along which you can walk, and the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon (built in 1166). Overnight Budva 4 star Slovenska Plaza Hotel (B) Day 5 Wednesday Kotor - Dubrovnik (Croatia) Today, we depart for Dubrovnik. Drive along the beautiful southern coast of Croatia to Dubrovnik. This city is legendary for its well preserved stone walls, and is often referred to as the 'Pearlof the Adriatic'.On arrival, head out on a guided walk along the city walls, enjoying views of the sparkling Adriatic Ocean. On the way we visit the famous Stari Most Bridge, built by the Ottomans in it was the great architect Mimar Hajrudin who succeeded with the impossible mission to cross the Neretva River with a single span stone bridge. Afterwards, we drive to Sarajevo.Which is Bosnia and Herzegovina'ssmall but vibrant capital. Twenty years after the end of a devastating war, Sarajevo is slowly asserting itself as one of Europe'smost beautiful and interesting cities. The city mixes east and west - dotted with minarets, mosques, bazaars and the aroma of coffee like Istanbul. In the evening, perhaps enjoy a simple but delicious meal in Bascarsija, Sarajevo'sold bazaar and you must try the local speciality of bosanski cevapi (grilled minced meat mixed with mild spices). Overnight Sarajevo 4 star Hotel Hollywood (B) Day 4 Saturday Sarajevo - Novi Sad (Serbia) This morning, after breakfast, depart for Novi Sad, is mostly a baroque town with a Central European atmosphere. The old town center is lined up with beautiful 200 year old houses, out-doors cafes, shops and ice-cream parlors, as well as beautiful places of worship - the ornate Serbian Orthodox church, the tall Catholic Cathedral or the Jewish synagogue (no longer in actual use). In the evening, head down to Skadarska Street in the bohemian quarter of Skadarlija to sample some authentic local food and enjoy the lively atmosphere, in a place where Orthodox churches vie for space next to fashionable nightclubs.
