9 i INFORMATION Turiec is one of the most interesting Slovak regions in terms of tourism. It consists of the District - Lower Turiec, and the Turčianske Teplice District - Upper Turiec. The region with a rich history and typical folk architecture is renowned for its cultural monuments, folklore traditions, as well as for its beautiful, charming nature, open-hearted people, numerous cultural, social and sporting events. Turiec is surrounded by majestic mountains of the Malá (Lesser) and Veľká (Greater) Fatra ranges, Kremnické vrchy hills and Žiar peak. Visitors are offered multiple opportunities for cultural, social and sporting activities. Especially sports fans can spend the summer enjoying hiking and biking, and skiing in winter in several well-known resorts. The Turiec region is also rich in mineral springs. The spa in Turčianske Teplice is one of the most frequented spa resorts in Slovakia, gaining popularity abroad as well.
