INTRODUCTION LETTER Youth Communication Center continue do implement projects and other activities in six program areas and this annual report describes all projects, training, seminars etc. that we were implementing during year Integration processes in Southeast Europe and democratic changes in surrounding countries but as well terrorist attacks and new crisis have influenced our work (some directly and some indirectly) on way that we have recognized our role through stronger cooperation with other NGOs that we could perpetuate establishing of civil society and enable sustainable peace processes firstly in our country where we could have most influence. These programs have empowered youth to take more responsible role in decision-making processes in their communities and schools through creating students councils, which was contribution to creating of youth policy in our country that we are supporting. Izvr{ni Paukovi} We were acting as training and resource center for peace building activities that have supported NGO's development through transfer of know-how and monitoring. Our radio "Balkan" we were using as vehicle for promotion of our and other NGOs activities and democratization projects that we were implementing. U ovom dijelu BiH OKC je podr`avao razvoj NVO-a kroz treninge nenasilne transformacije konflikta ~ime smo doprinosili lokalnoj inicijativi i mirovnom procesu. Project Youth Parliament in Eastern Republic of Srpska supported by the Netherlands Embassy we have started in December 2001 in six municipalities in Eastern Republic of Srpska (Bijeljina, Zvornik, Vlasenica, Milici, Bratunac and Srebrenica). In this area OKC were supporting NGO development and through conflict resolution training contributed to local initiative and peace building processes but for sustainability of long term democracy and peace was necessary to support democracy in schools and involved teachers that they could contribute to this for long term period. (Subject of democracy and human rights has formally started in September 2001 in all Secondary schools but teachers are focused on theory not on practical implementation of this issue). We were selecting 20 people (from local NGO a and teachers of democracy and human rights in Secondary schools) that will after training/education (January 2002) lead workshops for 250 students in their communities. About this project will be more in next report. Staff development International Summer School for Peace Building in Corrymeela Community (near Belfast, Northern Ireland) from May 31 June 9, 2001 joined 80 representatives from organisations that deal with peace building activities in Northern Ireland, Balkans, South Africa, and Middle East etc. Our representative has been in USA on Peace Conference with other 25 youth from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Yugoslavia and other our young member on three weeks seminar for young leaders from Southeast Europe in civil society also in USA. 16 2. To je bilo neophodno da bi budu}i lideri imali uvid u situaciju koja }e im omogu}iti kreiranje budu}ih programa na osnovu njihovih i potreba zajednica iz kojih dolaze Global and Regional Partnership program During last years OKC have developed co-operation with couple NGO s from Europe and the Balkans that we continue to improve through realisation of training, seminars and projects. Especially projects where we together have developed exchange programs for volunteers, summer camps, peace building activities, promotion of human rights activities that support cultural understanding, reconciliation and promotion of civil society values amongst people with in Balkans and with Western European countries. Experience and knowledge that OKC gained through project implementation in Bosnia and Herzegovina especially in area of peace building activities, reconciliation, minority issues, participation and cooperation with authorities than promotion of civil society values (media issue, democratisation etc.) we are sharing with other people from third sector in the Balkans. 17 Seminar Uzroci konflikta u Bosni i Hercegovini i koraci ka pomirenju ( Ruhpolding, Njema~ka). Veoma interesantna uloga/prezentacija pravoslavnog sve{tenika i hod`e o ulozi crkve i religije u procesu pomirenja. Prije rada na pitanjima pomirenja, lideri su morali pro}i rafting 17 Workshop Roots of conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina and steps to reconciliation (March 24-30,2001 Ruhpolding, Germany). Youth leadership and creating of youth policy isn t possible with Before dealing with reconcilitation issue, leaders have had to deal with rafting out knowledge about roots of conflicts and what is My story which have enabled to our group to increase level of mutual understanding that lead to reconciliation. National stereotypes and prejudices in Bosnia and Herzegovina were indicated as one of main obstacles that people have to face up and deal with it. Role of education, politicians and youth have been included in discussion and concrete activities was developed. Bosnia and Herzegovina has applied for organising of Winter Olympic Games in 2010 and role of sport that join people/youth of different nationalities will be promote through specific activities that this group could start (organising of summer camps with aim to clean/prepare sports facilities used in Olympic Games in 1984 in Sarajevo and special events that promote common efforts of youth from Bosnia and Herzegovina). With Wings of Hope Foundation we were organising prep meeting from February 26 March 4, 2001 in Germany for development of new regional project. Participants (20) were from Kosovo, Serbia, Vojvodina, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Different nationality backgrounds of participants and role that they have in their countries (NGO sector mostly) with introduction/expertise what two German layers for international law (focus on European Union strategy about Kosovo and Montenegro) enables overviews about realities and status of minorities in Yugoslavia. Very interesting was role/presentation of Orthodox and Moslem priests about role of church in process of reconciliation. On basis of this meeting evaluation OKC will participate in creating (during April/May 2001) of two years project with participation of youth from Yugoslavia (Serbia, Kosovo and Vojvodina) and Montenegro. Project will have aim reconciliation and role of minorities issue in this process with support of community based youth activities and programs that link divided areas (media program) especially in Southern Serbia and Northern Kosovo.
