Preventive measures 6. Conclusion. In the Republic of Macedonia there are two main contamination areas: I. North-Western part of Republic of Macedonia has been contaminated with landmines (antipersonnel mines PMA and PMR, and antitenk mines PMT) and unexploded ordinances (UXO). This contamination was a result of the conflict between armed groups of ethnic Albanians and Macedonian government forces in and it was spreat in the region by the border between Republic of Macedonia and Serbia and Montenegro, region of Tetovo, Kumanovo and Skopje. -

3 II. Region near the border between Republic of Macedonia and Greace, from Gevgelija to Ohrid with 5 km. long area, region of Berovo, region of Bitola-Prilep contaminated with huge amounts of UXO left behind since the First and Second World War. 3

4 Planing and coordination of the demining and clearance In September in accordance with the United Nations Mine Action Strategy (UNMAS), United Nations Mine Action Service opened national office (UNMAO) in Skopje to plane and to coordinate the activities in the NW part of Rof Macedonia.
