Its most famous attractions are the landmark Opera House and Harbor Bridge. Bondi Beach is a surfer's heaven, and Watson's Bay offers terrific views of Sydney's skyline. View kangaroos, emus and, of course, koalas at Koala Park, or take a stroll through The Rocks, Sydney's oldest neighborhood. Ile des Pins, New Caledonia Ile de Pins is an unspoiled tropical paradise with miles of fine white-sand beaches stretching out to aquamarine waters. With few cars and vitually no commercialization, the island gives visitors the freedom to lounge by the ocean, swim at one of the many beaches, or scuba dive at one of several dive areas. Hike to the top of Peak Nga, the island's only mountain, and enjoy tremendous 360-degree views of the entire island. Finish the day with an evening catamaran sail and watch the sun set as you glide over the waves. Lifou, New Caledonia Lifou in the Loyalty Islands is a haven of New Caledonia's traditional kanak culture. Exchange greetings with Hnathalo's village chief, who welcomes guests with Melanesian dances, songs and the "coutume," a traditional greeting. 7

Not far from the modern buildings of Port Vila, natives gather outside bamboo and grass huts for a primeval "custom dance." While French haute cuisine is served downtown, pig wrapped in banana leaves is cooked underground in villages just outside the city. Mare, New Caledonia The tropical island of Mare sits on the northeast coast of New Caledonia s mainland, and is the second largest of the Loyalty Islands. Here you will find makeshift markets set up by locals where you can purchase hand-made products, or find yourself lying on a palmleaf mat enjoying a relaxing massage. Mare is a raised coral atoll that is surrounded by the second largest barrier reef in the world. This island offers some of the prettiest beaches, striking landscapes, and exotic sea life in the south Pacific. Swim in freshwater lagoons, snorkel at the beaches, visit natural attractions such as the Bone Hole, or spend some time chatting with the locals during your stay. Noumea, New Caledonia One of the largest barrier reefs in the world shines emerald and turquoise through the crystalline waters of New Caledonia. Restaurants, bistros and chic French boutiques line the streets. Shops sell everything from Tahitian shell necklaces to Indonesian incense burners. Bustling Noumea is the French Riviera of the South Pacific. 8
