In the afternoon travel to Lake Constance. Lake Constance (known as Bodensee in German) is a 63km-long central European lake bordering Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Known for its dense, evergreen forests and picturesque villages, it is often associated with the Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Afterwards continue to Triberg im Schwarzwald, home to the world s largest cuckoo clock, before returning to Freiburg for the night. 3 THE ITINERARY Overnight: Ibis airport Bale Mulhouse, Basel Day 8: Basel - Begin 7 Night Basel to Amsterdam Rhine River Cruise Depart 4:00pm (B,D) After breakfast enjoy the morning at leisure in of Basel. Around Midday transfer to the port for embarkation on the 7 night Rhine river cruise. The friendly crew will be awaiting your arrival. Enjoy time to appreciate the features of your cabin. Day 9: Strasbourg, France 9:00am to 11:00pm (B,L,D) Strasbourg is the capital city of the Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne- Lorraine region in north eastern France. Day 11: Rüdesheim, Germany 7:00am to 12:00pm / Koblenz, Germany 3:30pm to 6:00am (B,L,D) This morning arrive in Rüdesheim, a winemaking town in the Rhine Gorge, know especially for Riesling wines. In the centre, Drosselgasse is a lane lined with shops, taverns and restaurants. Medieval Brömserburg Castle is home to the Rheingau Wine Museum, exhibiting wine paraphernalia from ancient times to the present. After lunch spend time on deck as we cruise the most beautiful section of the river, the legendary Upper Middle Rhine Valley. In the afternoon, begin the short journey to Coblenz and arrive at approximately 3:30pm. Coblenz is an ancient city in central Germany, and a gateway to the terraced vineyards and ruined castles of the Rhine Gorge. In the centre, a monumental statue of William the Great marks the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Day 10: Speyer, Germany - 7:00am to 12:00pm / Mannheim, Germany 2:00pm to 1:00am (B,L,D) Speyer is a town in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany and is located beside the river Rhine. It was founded by the Roman s in 10 BCE, making it one of Germany s oldest cities. Mannheim lies at the confluence of the Rhine and Neckar Rivers and is rare among German cities for its layout; a grid pattern (or quadrates ) similar to those found in North America. The grid was originally plotted in 1606 and emanated from Friedrichsburg Fortress, which later became the site of Mannheim Palace. Today, it partly houses the University of Mannheim. The water tower and beautiful Luisenpark are must-sees. Day 12: Cochem, Germany 1:30pm to 6:00pm (B,L,D) Few towns in Germany can match the charm of Cochem. Its picturesque beauty, makes it a favourite place for visitors. Legend, folklore and a rich web of history is woven into every street. Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Moselle River Valley, between the Eiffel and Hundsrück. It is surrounded by high elevations, steep vineyards and typical wine villages, offering tastings, festivals and genuine hospitality. Cochem, itself, is a showpiece gem and rated as one of the prettiest villages along the Moselle. Little seems to have changed for centuries. The town has many fine buildings, quaint cottages, black & tan guild houses and winding streets. The town square, lined with its half-timbered houses, is particularly fine. Day 13: Cologne, Germany - 7:00am to 2:30pm (B,L,D) This morning arrive in Cologne, a 2,000-year-old city spanning

A landmark of High Gothic architecture set amid the reconstructed old town, the twin-spired Cologne Cathedral is also known for its gilded medieval reliquary and sweeping river views.
