Observation 3.1. Cruise summary JAMSTEC provided a single-day boarding experiment on the R/V Natsushima to the children who won prizes in the 16th Postcard Design Contest and their parents, in order that they had a better understanding of and deeper interests in the oceans. Boarding experiments on the R/V Natsushima were carried out in the three days including the underwater navigations of the remotely operated vehicle Hyper-Dolphin. During the underwater navigations of Hyper-Dolphin, many deep-sea organisms such as conger and holothurian were observed through the high-definition marine camera. We carried out the submarine experiments during the underwater navigations. Submarine experiments (1) Observations of items under high pressure In submarine (under high pressure), we observed the items such as tomato, watermelon, radish pickle, a piece of devil's-tongue jelly, egg (raw and boiled), plastic bottle (empty and full), balloon, marshmallow, dry ice, and so on. A part of submarine experiments (2) Experiments around seafloor Around seafloor, we carried out the experiments such as change in color of light, rocket fire, fishing, uncorking a bottle of Coke, and so on. 7 3.5. Observed organisms During the underwater navigations, we observed the organisms such as holothurian, jellyfish, seaflower, starfish, shrimp, squid, conger, shark, cod, and so on. Conger Squid Shark Holothurian 6
