3 Purpose: Establishment, Role and Function of CDB The CDB was established in 1970 to contribute to the harmonious economic growth and development of the member countries in the Caribbean. 3
4 Mission: Establishment, Role and Function of CDB CDB intends to be the leading catalyst for development resources into the region, working in an efficient responsive & collaborative manner with our borrowing members countries (BMCs) and other development partners, towards the systematic reduction of poverty in their countries, through social & economic development.

22 Climate Resilience Strategy: 4 Priority Areas for Intervention 1. Climate Proofing of Existing and New Investment Portfolio: - financing investments in key climate-sensitive sectors, identified as priorities by BMC - disaster rehabilitation and mitigation with emphasis on building community resilience - manage and strengthen degraded biological and natural resource systems 2. Support for Mitigation Investments - promote and support investments and initiatives to improve energy efficiency and the expand investments in renewable energy sources e.g. Climate Action line of credit; EE support to MSMEs
23 Climate Resilience Strategy: 4 Priority Areas for Intervention 3. Knowledge Building and Capacity Development for Climate Resilience at Regional and National Levels : - - data collection and reporting systems for environment, DRR and climate risk monitoring and information systems e.g. CIMH - climate prediction models to support decision-making policy and project) levels e.g. 5Cs participatory environmental governance and administrative processes. - building and construction standards and best practices e.g. use of building codes; - land-use and environmental planning and development control e.g Dominica - technical capacity for mainstreaming Environment, DRR and Climate Resilience in national development planning. - strengthen cooperation and collaboration between public sector, private sector and civil society to finance and implement climate resilient development initiatives. 4. Institutional Action Programme: - Mobilise and Increase Access to Concessionary Financing
24 Guyana Sea and River Defense Project - Reconstruction and improvement of approx.5.4 km of sea and river defences - Capacity in shoreline change monitoring and analysis - Community Awareness &Education Programme Protect 20 rural communities along coastline and Leguan Island Cost USD25mn
25 Community Disaster Risk Reduction Fund (CDRRF) Demonstrating Reduction of Natural Hazard Risk and Adapting to Climate Change at Community Level Approx. USD $22 million to support CDRR and Climate Change Adaptation over 6 years
26 CDRRF Eligible Projects Priority DRR/CCA needs of community Demonstrate measurable reduction in natural hazard and/or CC risk Target low income, and/or rural, and/or marginalised communities in high risk areas Flood early warning systems Retaining-walls & check dams Break waters and sea-walls Foot-bridges across gullies and rivers Retrofitting public shelters to serve the special needs of girls, women, the elderly and the disabled Ecosystem restoration Shelters for fishing boats Storm resilient greenhouses Rainwater harvesting & storage
