It doesn t get any hipper than the world s first Infiniti Bar at Grace Bay Club. The innovative bar stretches 90 feet across the beach, making it the longest in the Caribbean. Turks and Caicos is one of my favorite Caribbean destinations. I first traveled to the intimate group of islands almost eight years ago and have been back numerous times since. There are many reasons I return time and time again, starting with the lure of the most crystal-clear aquamarine water you ll find around any island. Add to that the pure-white soft sand beaches, top-notch accommodations, the option of activities (or doing nothing at all), hospitable locals, a very low crime rate and a sophisticated clientele of travelers. Yes, Turks and Caicos is a very special place. The Turks and Caicos Islands are located 550 miles southeast of Miami, below the Bahamas. Forty islands and cays make up the chain, only eight of which are inhabited by about 30,000 full-time residents. Approximately 200,000 tourists visit each year, with most of them probably wishing they could call the islands home. Surprisingly, considering its amazing blue water, Turks and Caicos is located in the Atlantic Ocean, not the Caribbean Sea. The islands full-time residents are an international mix of African, British, American, French, Canadian, Haitian, Dominican and Scandinavian, lending to the eclectic culture. Locals are extremely friendly and relaxed, and they welcome tourists with open arms. They do, however, operate on island time, so type-a travelers be forewarned: You will be forced to chill out. But trust me, you ll get used to it the low-key, low-stress environment is part of the charm. Island attire is also casual. Shorts are the most popular day wear, and evenings call for dress shorts or pants with a collared shirt for men, and dress slacks or dresses for ladies. A near-perfect climate and approximately 350 days of sunshine a year are additional major lures. The average temperature ranges from 80 to 84 degrees from November to May, and 85 to 90 degrees from June to October, sometimes reaching the mid-90s in the late summer months. Hurricane season begins June 1 and continues until the end of November. With all of its enviable qualities, it s not surprising that Turks and Caicos has experienced a major growth spurt over the past decade and is still going strong. In fact, the islands have the fastestgrowing economy in the Caribbean. Strictly controlled development laws protect the islands heritage as a pristine respite for residents and tourists alike.

Created with exclusivity, prestige and privacy in mind, these luxurious residences are unlike any others. Residences were initially for sale and have sold out; however, guests are able to enjoy them since they are now run as part of the resort, available for booking. Set on 260 feet of Grace Bay Club s oceanfront acreage, The Estate residences are grand in size and nature. With 4,500 square feet of indoor/outdoor space, each features four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms, with a smaller fifth room often used as a media room or den. The residences can be booked in whole or in part (rooms can be locked off from common living space, allowing for a variety of configurations from a junior residence to threeor four-bedroom suites). Full walls of sliding glass doors leading onto oversized terraces with direct ocean views add to the wow appeal, as do hardwood floors in the bedrooms and stone floors throughout the main living space. First-floor residences boast their own private dipping pools as well. Custom kitchens are large and loaded with high-end features, including beautifully crafted cabinetry, a 48-inch stainless steel Sub-Zero refrigerator and a Wolf gas range. Bathrooms are to-die-for with a large glass-enclosed shower and huge tub, plus a beyond spacious granite-countered makeup and dressing area. The Estate residences merge the comforts of home, including wireless Internet and laundry facilities, with the lavish amenities of a fivestar hotel (turn-down, laundry and room service, plus a personal concierge who is there to cater to your every need and want). Outside The Estate residences is a 25-yard lap pool overlooking the beach. After a swim, indulge in spa treatments or have lunch in a private poolside cabana, exclusive to guests of The Estate. Another perk is access to oceanside Krave restaurant, featuring gourmet versions of comfort food classics. The just-opened Veranda Resort and Residences Grace Bay Resorts Welcomes its Newest Member Grace Bay Resorts recently introduced the Veranda Resort and Residences. The five-star, allinclusive resort is located just minutes from Grace Bay Club and is offering a grand-opening special with all-inclusive rates starting at just $315 per person per night based on double occupancy (that s 30 percent off) for travel from Feb. 1 through April 10. Rates include all meals and beverages (inclusive of premium alcohol), on-site children s programs, and nonmotorized water sports. (Kids younger than 2 are free. Kids 2 to 15 are $100 per night.) The Veranda Resort and Residences sit on 10 acres and occupies 800 feet of pristine beachfront along the shore of Grace Bay. Locally caught fish, conch and lobster are featured in innovative island cuisine prepared with global touches. Another sophisticated but casual dining option is Grill Rouge. A beachfront fire pit creates the perfect ambience in which to enjoy the French- American bistro fare. You can t help but smile as you look out onto spectacular views of Grace Bay. The varied a la carte menu features creative culinary creations for breakfast, lunch and dinner, including a selection of top-grade meats, seafood and traditional French favorites. When it comes to fine cuisine and tasty libations in a chic yet casual setting, the Infiniti Bar at Grace Bay Club takes top honors. Unveiled as the world s first Infiniti Bar, it stretches 90 feet across the beach, making it the longest in the Caribbean. An illusion creates the appearance that the entire structure is floating above the beach and extending indefinitely into the ocean.
