9 ABOUT THE BERGAMOT STATION ARTS CENTER The Bergamot Station Arts Center (BSAC) is Santa Monica s gallery and studio hub. Located on the site of a former stop on the historic LA Red Car Trolley, the site s buildings housed a celery packing operation, ice-making plant and later a water heater manufacturing factory. After the Red Car stopped running in the 1950s, the site was largely abandoned and then purchased by the City of Santa Monica. In 1994, it reopened as an arts complex with a mix of artist galleries, studios and creative offices. Since its opening, BSAC has become a popular destination for locals and visitors with an estimated 600,000 visitors per year. 9
