1 Site Analysis Context Plan The site located in Crosstown, occupies an entire city block bridging between the Downtown, Gastown, False Creek North, and Yaletown neighborhoods. 2 Context Aerial The area around the former Main Post Office building is home to a number of significant buildings and presents an opportunity to connect the multiple neighborhoods that surround it. 7
3 Land Use This area has become known as Crosstown. Home to commercial buildings, significant open space, and a concentration of cultural and educational institutions. The main office core of the CBD is to the west, however office developement is moving towards the site. The residential foci are to the east (False Creek) and south (Yaletown) with a significant amount of new residential use planned around the stadia. The site is within four blocks of the two major downtown retail arteries of Robson Street and Pacific Centre. Hotels are clustered in the downtown core, with specific emphasis to the waterfront. Educational and cultural institutions are focussed in this smaller area. 4 Central Business District Extention GASTOWN The former Main Post Office building sits in the centre of the Central Business District (CBD) shoulder between Gastown / Chinatown, Yaletown, False Creek and Downtown an area of developing workspace activity. 9 Pedestrian Circulation Support and enhancement of the existing pedestrian and bicycle network will reinforce and enhance this transit connectivity. Fewer pedestrians use Dunsmuir St. Dunsmuir St is also a major artery into the city currently. This may change in the future with the removal of the viaducts.
