Lighthouses give direction, offer certainty and promise safety: Protection from misfortune, a steady course past unseen obstacles and through the darkness, and a safe return home and more. They are symbol, guide and ideal cast into a form that has, in its basic principle, held constant for thousands of years. A design concept so enduring is more than convention or arbitrary invention.
